Hydraulic sealing ring – how to select for the installation?

The selection of a hydraulic sealing ring should take into account several key technical parameters: the type of threaded connection, nominal diameter, system operating pressure, and the type of hydraulic medium. In high-pressure installations, metal-rubber washers are most commonly used, in which the steel ring is responsible for mechanical stability, and the flexible insert (e.g., NBR) provides proper sealing. The first step is to identify the thread – whether we are dealing with a metric, BSP or NPTthread. The internal diameter of the sealing ring must correspond to the diameter of the bolt or fitting, while the external diameter should ensure proper adhesion to the sealed surface. Dimensional mismatch can lead to uneven pressure and loss of tightness. Another aspect is the material resistance of the sealing insert. In standard power hydraulic systems, elastomers NBR, resistant to oils mineral and typical operating temperatures. In the case of elevated temperatures or aggressive media, it may be necessary to use materials with higher chemical resistance. The tightening torque of the connection is also significant. A hydraulic sealing ring works correctly only when it is evenly pressed against the contact surface. Too low torque can cause leaks, while excessive tightening can damage the elastomer insert.
