1 BSP thread – characteristics and application
1 BSP (British Standard Pipe) thread is one of the most commonly used inch threads in power hydraulics and pneumatics. It belongs to the group of pipe threads designed for creating leak-proof connections in pressure installations. It occurs in versions with external threads (e.g., on ends, nipples, tees) and internal threads (e.g., in sockets, ports, or AA connectors).
Characteristics of the 1 BSP thread:
-
the external diameter of the thread is approx. 33.25 mm,
-
the pitch is 11 turns per inch (11 TPI),
-
thread profile angle: 55°,
-
thread type: parallel BSPP (British Standard Pipe Parallel) or tapered BSPT (British Standard Pipe Taper),
-
designed for leak-proof connections using sealing rings, washers, or sealing cones,
-
used in both low-pressure and high-pressure hydraulic systems.
Application of the 1 BSP thread
The 1 BSP thread is used in many industries:
-
power hydraulics – in fittings, adapters, elbows, and tees,
-
pneumatics – in compressed air lines and workshop fittings,
-
machinery industry – in lubrication, cooling, and fuel systems,
-
chemical and food industry – in pipelines transporting liquids and technical gases.
In Hydron power hydraulics, the 1 BSP thread is often found in ends and fittings mounted on high-pressure hoses, where it ensures a secure and leak-proof connection.
Example products in the Hydron store with a 1 BSP thread:
-
DKR, DKJ, AGR ends with 1 BSP external thread,
-
sockets, AA tees, and socket elbows with 1 BSP internal thread,
-
BSP plugs and caps for closing lines.
