Black spiral guard for hose protection

Spiral guards ( hose braiding ) made of polyethylene are used to protect all types of hydraulic lines against destruction ( mechanical damage ) and wear. The guards are used to extend the life of the hydraulic hose, protecting against UV radiation harmful to hoses and weather conditions. The guards can also be used to mark individual hoses ( multiple colors can be used ). Black spiral guards are the most popular guards. The guards are used, among others, in all types of forestry machinery, agricultural machinery, and others. Other guard colors: Yellow spiral guards, Green spiral guards, Blue spiral guards, Red spiral guards

Application of spiral guards:

Organizing lines and cables, creating cable bundles with the possibility of branching them at any point, protecting hydraulic lines and cables against mechanical damage, joining groups of lines or hoses, providing an aesthetic appearance to line bundles.

SGX spiral guards

Professional protection of hydraulic hoses against damage. In the Hydron offer, you will find durable and flexible SGX spiral guards that provide effective protection for hydraulic, pneumatic, and industrial lines against mechanical damage. These are essential protective elements in every hydraulic power installation – in construction, agricultural, forestry, and industrial machinery. Thanks to their spiral construction, SGX guards effectively protect hoses from abrasion, crushing, and the effects of atmospheric factors, ensuring longer life and safe operation under all conditions.

What are SGX guards and why are they so important ?

SGX spiral guards are special protective braids made of high-quality plastic – most often polyethylene (HDPE) or polypropylene – with increased resistance to abrasion, UV radiation, and temperature. Their spiral shape allows for easy application onto the line, even when already mounted in the machine, without the need for disassembly. Application of SGX guards: protects hydraulic lines from abrasion against sharp edges, secures against crushing during machine operation, prevents lines from sticking together and facilitates their routing, increases the safety of using the entire system, improves the aesthetics of the installation and facilitates maintenance. As a result, SGX spiral guards are a small but extremely important element that affects the failure-free and long-term operation of hydraulic systems.

Construction and properties of SGX spiral guards

Every SGX guard has a spiral construction that allows for flexible adjustment to the hose diameter and its free bending. The material from which they are made is characterized by:

  • resistance to UV radiation and weather conditions,

  • high resistance to abrasion and cracking,

  • a wide range of operating temperatures (often from –40°C to +120°C),

  • suitability for use in environments with oils, greases, and hydraulic fluids.

SGX guards are available in various diameters and lengths, allowing for a perfect fit for any type of hydraulic line.

Application of SGX spiral guards in power hydraulics

SGX guards are used wherever lines are exposed to intensive use and risk of damage, including: in construction machinery (excavators, loaders, dumpers, cranes), in agricultural and forestry machinery, in industrial equipment and production systems, in mobile and workshop installations. Their assembly is quick and does not require specialized tools – simply place the spiral on the line and adjust its length. This is an ideal solution for service companies, machine users, and hydraulic equipment manufacturers.

spiral guard for hydraulic hoses, protective braiding for lines

Hydraulic hose braiding

Hydraulic hose braiding is a colloquial term for spiral protective guards that wrap around the outer surface of the hose. The name "braiding" comes from the fact that this guard literally surrounds and protects the hose along its entire length, creating a kind of protective armor. Thanks to the spiral construction, the guard flexibly adapts to the shape of the line and allows it to bend freely without restricting the operation of the hydraulic system. The protective spiral, also called a spiral guard for hydraulic hoses, protects lines against mechanical damage such as abrasions, impacts, or contact with sharp edges. Additionally, it protects hoses against the effects of UV radiation, high temperatures, and chemical substances, which significantly extends their life in difficult working conditions.

Conduit for hoses and lines

In the hydraulic industry, braiding of this type is also often referred to as conduit for hydraulic hoses and lines. This name refers to the similar function that conduits perform in electrical installations – they shield lines from damage and provide protection in places with a high risk of abrasion or crushing. In the case of power hydraulics, a "hydraulic conduit" thus plays the role of protective reinforcement that maintains the flexibility of the line while protecting it from external factors.

Spiral hose for cables and lines

The term spiral hose for cables is also encountered, which refers to the same type of guard, but used not only in hydraulics but also in the protection of electrical, pneumatic, and signal lines. Such a spiral hose allows for aesthetic and safe routing of many cables at the same time, protecting them from kinks, abrasions, and mechanical damage. Thanks to the spiral shape, it can be easily fitted onto lines of various diameters and lengths, making it a universal solution in workshops, machinery, and industrial installations. Spiral wraps available in the Hydron offer are durable, UV-resistant, and oil-resistant guards that prove themselves in the most demanding work environments – from construction machinery, through agricultural, to heavy industry. Thanks to them, hydraulic hoses and electrical lines remain in excellent technical condition for a long time, which translates into the safety and reliability of the entire system.

Spiral cable wrap

Spiral cable wrap is a flexible guard in the form of a spiral, made of durable material resistant to abrasion, UV radiation, and atmospheric factors. Its task is to wrap around lines or cable bundles to effectively protect them against mechanical damage, crushing, or abrasion. Thanks to the spiral construction, the wrap adapts to the shape of the line without restricting its flexibility and allowing for free movement during machine or device operation. The term "wrap" results from the characteristic mounting method – the product literally wraps around the lines, allowing for quick installation without the need to disconnect them. Spiral cable wrap is available in various diameters, allowing it to be matched to single cables, line bundles, or hydraulic hoses. These types of guards are used not only in power hydraulics but also in pneumatics, industrial automation, and electrical installations, where it is necessary to organize and protect cables.

Cable guard

Cable guard is a universal term for products that protect lines against the influence of harmful external factors such as abrasion, solar radiation, high temperature, or contact with oils and greases. In the context of Hydron spiral guards, this means a plastic spiral wrap that serves a protective, organizing, and securing function. The term "cable guard" emphasizes the practical role of the product – this guard secures and extends the life of lines, minimizing the risk of failure, abrasion, or short circuit. In heavy industry and construction, it is often used to protect electrical lines, control cables, and hydraulic lines exposed to heavy operational loads. Spiral guards available in the Hydron offer are a solution that combines functionality, durability, and aesthetics. Thanks to the use of high-quality plastics, these products are perfect for both indoor and outdoor conditions. Their installation is simple, and their application is universal – from cable protection in machines, through industrial installations, to line bundles in vehicles and production lines.

Certificates and quality testing of spiral guards

The black spiral guards for hydraulic lines offered by Hydron have quality documentation confirming the performance parameters and material safety of the product. The guards are made of durable plastic resistant to abrasion, weather conditions, and UV radiation, making them suitable for demanding industrial, agricultural, and forestry applications.

Conducted laboratory tests confirmed the resistance of spiral guards to UV radiation. The test was performed in accordance with the ISO 4892-3:2016 standard concerning the aging of plastics under the influence of UV light. After 48 hours of laboratory testing, no significant changes in the appearance of the sample were found, which confirms the possibility of using the guards in machines working outdoors and in difficult atmospheric conditions. Additionally, the product meets the requirements of the RoHS 2015/863 directive (RoHS 2.0), which means a restriction on the occurrence of hazardous substances such as lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, and selected phthalates. In the laboratory report, all tested substances were marked as not detected or below the limits permitted by European standards.

Hydron spiral guards also have a quality certificate confirming compliance of execution with technical documentation and the current quality control system. The documentation includes, among others, the diameter range of 8–90 mm, chemical resistance to typical oils and greases, and an operating temperature range from -50°C to +70°C.
