Male Thread Test Points for Hydraulic Lines and Systems
Male thread test points (test nipples) are key diagnostic equipment elements used in power hydraulics. They are used for direct screwing into pump bodies, valve blocks, cylinders, manifolds, or hydraulic lines, creating a permanent and secure connection point for measuring equipment.
Application and Role of the Male Thread
The main task of a male thread connection is to screw it permanently into a given point of the hydraulic system (e.g., port G 1/4", M14x1.5, or NPT). On the other side, the connection is equipped with a standardized measurement thread – most commonly M16x2 (standard EMA3) – which allows for quick screwing of a test hose, pressure gauge adapter, or pressure sensor under full load.
Why Use Dedicated Test Nipples?
- Safe connection under pressure: The integrated ball or poppet valve opens automatically only after the test hose is fully tightened, preventing uncontrolled oil leakage and pressure drops.
- Fast machine diagnostics: They allow for immediate connection of a test pressure gauge to verify operating pressure, diagnose failures, or perform pressure tests.
- Bleeding and sampling: They facilitate clean bleeding of blocked hydraulic lines and safe collection of oil samples for laboratory analysis.
- Durability and tightness: Made of high-quality steel, protected against corrosion (galvanized coating or stainless steel). Equipped with ED seals (soft rubber seal) or conical seals, ensuring 100% tightness at pressures up to 400–630 bar.
- Protection against contamination: Each connection has a protective cap on a chain or strap, which protects the measurement socket from dust, water, and dirt ingress.
