Narrow nut or as others call it a locknut in power hydraulics has several applications. It can be used together with a fitting as an element pressing the seal. Also used for mounting quick couplings to fixed elements, e.g., a loader. Made of free-cutting steel, galvanized. M12x1,5 locknut is a fastener used in power hydraulics installations, pneumatics and in various mechanical applications where it is required secure and stable locking of the threaded connection. Its task is not to carry main loads, but securing the set position of the threaded element and preventing its spontaneous loosening during operation. In practice, locknuts are very often used for countering fittings, connectors, nipples and other elements mounted in machine bodies, manifolds, hydraulic blocks or mounting plates. Thanks to them, it is possible to accurately set the element and its permanent immobilization.

Why are locknuts called thin nuts?

The term „thin nut” results directly from the design of the locknut, which has a significantly smaller height than a standard hex nut. The reduced height is not a defect, but a design feature resulting from its function. The locknut does not work as the main load-bearing element of the threaded connection. Its task is to counter, i.e., to press and lock an element already tightened. That is why it does not require full height and a large number of thread turns, like a classic structural nut. The low profile of the locknut provides several significant benefits: it allows for installation in places with limited space where a standard nut would not fit; it enables its use as additional protection without significantly lengthening the entire threaded connection; it facilitates precise setting of elements that must remain in a specific working position. It is because of this reduced height that in technical and workshop language locknuts are commonly referred to as thin nuts.

Application of the M12x1,5 locknut

The M12x1,5 locknut is used wherever a threaded connection must remain stable despite vibrations, pressure changes or dynamic loads. It is often used in:
