1-spool hydraulic directional control valve

1-spool hydraulic directional control valve

What are 1-spool valves? 1-spool hydraulic directional control valves are compact devices controlling the flow of working fluid in hydraulic power systems. Their task is to direct hydraulic oil to appropriate receivers, such as cylinders or hydraulic motors. They are characterized by a single control section, which means they are designed to operate a single hydraulic circuit.

Application of 1-spool valves

Single-spool valves are widely used in agricultural, construction, and industrial machinery where there is no need to control multiple sections simultaneously. They enable smooth control of cylinder movement, which is key in e.g. lifts, tippers, or loaders. Their compact dimensions and simple design make them ideal for systems where installation space is limited.

Example application of a single-spool valve

One of the typical applications of a 1-spool valve is controlling a cylinder in a dump trailer. Thanks to it, the operator can precisely control the lifting and lowering of the cargo box, which improves the unloading process. In the case of agricultural machinery such as balers, the valve controls the press movement, enabling efficient and safe operation of the device.

1-spool hydraulic directional control valve with detent

What is a 1-spool hydraulic directional control valve with detent? It is a valve equipped with a detent mechanism, allowing the lever to be automatically held in the active position until the work cycle is completed. Used in applications where it is necessary to automatically maintain the working position without having to hold the lever manually. Ideal for log splitters, hydraulic presses, and some agricultural equipment. Application example: In a hydraulic log splitter, this valve allows the piston to be kept in motion automatically until the wood is fully split, after which it automatically returns to the neutral position.

80 L 1-spool hydraulic directional control valve

What is an 80L 1-spool hydraulic directional control valve? It is a high-performance valve designed to handle hydraulic systems where high oil flow is required – up to 80 l/min. This type of valve works well in agricultural and construction machinery where control of a single cylinder with a high oil flow demand is required. It can be used in cranes, lifts, and other hydraulic devices. Application example: In an agricultural tipper, the 80L 1-spool valve provides sufficient oil flow for efficient lifting and lowering of the cargo bed even under heavy load.

1-spool floating section valve

What is a 1-spool floating section valve? A 1-spool valve with a floating function is a hydraulic system component that allows free oil flow in both directions when the lever is in the floating position. This is particularly useful in applications requiring the natural adjustment of the cylinder to working conditions without forced pressure. This type of valve is often used in agricultural machinery such as snow plows and tillage machines, where working elements must be able to adapt to the ground. The floating function avoids excessive load on the cylinders, which increases system durability and improves user comfort. Application example: In a snow plow, the floating valve allows the blade to rise and fall freely according to the terrain, which eliminates the risk of damage and ensures effective snow removal.

Directional control valve for hydraulic log splitter

What is a directional control valve for a hydraulic log splitter? A log splitter valve is a specialized control device adapted for operation in mechanical wood splitters. Its design ensures efficient control of the splitter piston movement, which allows for effective wood splitting. Used in hydraulic wood splitters where precision of operation and safety of use are crucial. This valve allows for fast cylinder control, making the work efficient and comfortable. Application example: In a wood splitter, the hydraulic valve allows control over the movement of the splitting wedge – the operator can easily push the lever to start the log splitting process, and then release the flow when pressure is no longer needed.

Log splitter valve with detent

What is a log splitter valve with detent? It is a valve dedicated to hydraulic log splitters that has a detent mechanism, allowing the piston to return automatically to the starting position after the work cycle is finished. An ideal solution for wood splitters because it eliminates the need for the operator to constantly hold the lever during the piston return. This increases work comfort and efficiency.

Double-acting single-spool directional control valve

What is a single-spool valve? A single-spool valve is a hydraulic system component that has one working section, i.e., one flow path controlling one function (e.g., the movement of a cylinder or a hydraulic motor). Each section usually contains a lever that allows for oil flow control.

What does "double-acting" mean?

The term "double-acting" refers not to the valve itself as a construction, but to its function – specifically the ability to control a double-acting cylinder. Such a cylinder (usually a piston type) requires hydraulic oil to be supplied to both sides of the piston – so that it can extend and retract under pressure. A "double-acting" valve thus has two working outlets – A and B, which alternately feed the cylinder chambers. In the extreme positions of the lever: - oil is supplied e.g. to A – the cylinder extends, - oil is supplied to B – the cylinder retracts.

Why do people say "single-spool double-acting"?

This term combines two features of the valve: 1) Single-spool – it has only one working section, i.e., it controls one receiver (e.g., one cylinder). 2) Double-acting – it enables the cylinder to be powered in both directions (for extending and retracting). This distinction is important because there are also: Single-acting valves – for cylinders that require power in only one direction (e.g., a spring retracts the piston), Multi-spool valves – which control several receivers simultaneously. A double-acting single-spool valve is: a valve with one lever (one section), enabling oil flow control in two directions, designed for double-acting cylinders. This is a popular solution in construction, agricultural, or forestry machinery where precise control of cylinder movement in both directions is necessary.

How to connect a single-spool hydraulic directional control valve?

A single-spool valve allows the control of one hydraulic circuit – e.g., one cylinder or one oil receiver. Correct connection is the key to efficient, safe operation of the hydraulic system. Below is a step-by-step description:

1. Preparation and safety

  • Ensure that the hydraulic system is turned off and not under pressure.

  • Drain the lines, reduce the oil pressure in the supply and return lines.

  • Thoroughly clean the threaded ports and line ends — avoid contaminants that can damage seals and valves.

2. Port markings on the valve

A typical single-spool valve usually has the following ports:

  • P (Pressure / Supply) – pressure inlet from the hydraulic pump

  • T (Tank / Return) – return port directing oil back to the tank

  • A and B (or one of them, depending on the design) – working port(s) through which oil goes to the cylinder

  • Optionally port N / neutral (if provided) – usually plugged; sometimes used when connecting subsequent valves.

3. Connecting the lines

  1. Supply (P → Pump)
Connect port P of the valve to the output of the pump or supply line. Use a hydraulic hose of appropriate diameter and strength.

  2. Return (T → Tank)
Connect port T to the hydraulic tank — this is the oil return line after work is finished.

  3. Working outlet (A / B → Cylinder / receiver)
Connect port A or B to the hydraulic cylinder (or working device). If the valve design provides only one working outlet, oil will be directed through this port, and the other port may be plugged (depending on the type of cylinder operation).

  4. Port N (if available)
If you plan to expand the system in the future or add another valve, port N is sometimes designed as a pressure socket for series connection. If necessary, remove the plug and install a power beyond sleeve, to pass the pressure further.

4. Correctness check and startup

  • Check if all connections are tight and hydraulic hoses are well tightened.

  • Ensure that the hose diameters and hydraulic fittings match the flow requirements of the valve.

  • Slowly introduce pressure (staged startup) and observe for leaks.

  • Test the direction of cylinder movement, operational compliance, and the absence of "back leaks" or unwanted flow.

  • In case of incorrect operation, turn off the system and make corrections — check if the hoses are not connected inversely and if the seals are functional.
