Description

Hex socket threaded plug VSTI BSP 1.1/2" ED – Internal thread cap with soft seal

The VSTI BSP 1.1/2" ED threaded plug is a professional sealing element designed for absolutely tight closing of sockets and connection ports with an internal thread in power hydraulics components. It is designed for installation in valve blocks, pump bodies, cylinders, and manifolds. The design of the cap is based on a G 1.1/2" (BSP) parallel pipe thread and an integrated NBR elastomer sealing ring (ED type E seal). The internal hexagonal socket (hex) allows for efficient assembly using standard workshop tools, while ensuring high aesthetics and perfect fit to the body surface. The product is made of high-quality carbon steel protected by a durable zinc anti-corrosion coating, which ensures long-term resistance to mechanical damage and harsh operating conditions.

Application and technical characteristics

The VSTI G 1.1/2" ED threaded plug is widely used in stationary industrial installations as well as in construction and agricultural machinery where a reliable shut-off of the medium under high working pressure is required. The flexible ED ring made of nitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR) penetrates the thread undercut and undergoes controlled deformation during tightening, creating a sealing barrier highly resistant to vibrations and pressure surges without the risk of the seal being squeezed out.

Basic parameters and utility features:

  • Sealing standard: ED flexible face seal according to DIN 3852-11 (Type E).
  • Pressure resistance: High resistance to working pressure reaching up to 315 bar (31.5 MPa).
  • Compatibility with working media: Mineral oils, synthetic oils, glycols, and water-based hydraulic emulsions.
  • Operating temperature range: Reliable operation in the range from -35°C to +100°C (for standard NBR seal).
  • Surface protection: Passivated galvanic zinc coating, protecting the element against corrosion processes under the influence of moisture and chemical substances.
  • Installation optimization: The compact profile with a hex socket allows for installation in places with very limited working space. To comprehensively supplement or rebuild the pressure system, also check our high-strength hydraulic hoses, reliable hydraulic adapters and professional hydraulic quick couplers.

Why choose HYDRON components?

The HYDRON brand is a guarantor of professionalism and the highest standards of workmanship in the field of power hydraulics. The offered connection elements and caps are manufactured in strict accordance with European ISO and DIN standards, which eliminates thread dimensional errors and guarantees one hundred percent repeatability of connections. Each VSTI plug undergoes a detailed geometry control of the thread and the flexible seal socket, thereby minimizing the risk of failure and machine downtime. By choosing HYDRON products, you invest in maximum operational safety, assembly precision, and long-term tightness of pressure systems.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between a VSTI ED plug and a regular conical plug?

A VSTI ED plug has a parallel thread and a built-in elastomer sealing ring (ED) that rests against the flat front surface of the port. Sealing occurs on the outer face. Conical plugs (e.g., NPT or BSPT) seal directly on the thread turns and require the use of additional sealants, while the ED system ensures a higher level of safety, assembly cleanliness, and vibration resistance.

Do I need to use Teflon tape when installing a VSTI 1.1/2" ED plug?

No. The integrated NBR (ED) rubber ring creates a full face seal under the appropriate tightening torque. Applying Teflon tapes, hemp, or glues is unnecessary and, in many cases, can lead to incorrect seating of the plug face and cause system leakage.

Is the ED sealing ring in the VSTI plug replaceable?

Yes, in case of elastomer wear due to age or exceeding the permissible operating temperature, the ED (NBR) sealing ring itself can be removed and replaced with a new seal of the same type and size, making the plug a reusable element.
