Description
Plastic threaded plug / cap male thread 1/4" BSP
Plastic threaded cap male thread 1/4" BSP is a protective plug with an external inch thread, designed for temporary securing of holes and hydraulic connections. The product is made of plastic and helps protect the interior of hoses, manifolds, cylinders, valves, and other components from dust, grit, metal shavings, and contamination during transport, storage, assembly, and repairs.
Plastic male thread plug 1/4" BSP allows for temporary closing of an open connection with a compatible internal thread. It is useful when replacing hydraulic hoses, servicing machinery, and preparing parts for storage or shipping. The threaded design allows the cap to be placed in a properly fitted hole until the final connection is made.
Important: the plastic cap male thread 1/4" BSP does not bear pressure loads. It must not be used to close hydraulic or pneumatic systems operating under pressure.
Color information: the caps come in various colors, packed and shipped randomly. The color of the received product may differ from the one shown in the photo.

Application of the 1/4" BSP protective plug in power hydraulics
Plastic threaded plug male thread 1/4" BSP is used for temporary protection of open connections during repairs, technical inspections, and maintenance of hydraulic equipment. It can be used in compatible ports of manifolds, cylinders, valves, and other system elements.
The cap is also useful when disconnecting hydraulic hoses from agricultural, construction, and industrial machinery. Its task is to reduce the risk of contamination entering the components before they are reconnected to the system.
External thread G 1/4" BSP – dimensions and identification
BSP 1/4" thread belongs to the family of inch pipe threads. For cylindrical threads, the designation G 1/4 is used in accordance with ISO 228-1. The standard external diameter is approximately 13.16 mm, and the number of threads is 19 per inch, which corresponds to a pitch of approximately 1.337 mm.
BSP threads have a 55° profile angle. However, one should distinguish cylindrical BSPP threads, marked with the letter G, from tapered BSPT threads. The notation BSP alone does not clearly define the shape of the thread, so before installing the cap, its design and compatibility with the protected connection should be confirmed.
Calipers and an inch thread gauge can be used to identify the thread. The diameter, pitch, and type of thread should be checked, as the nominal 1/4" size does not directly correspond to its external diameter measured with a caliper.
Protecting hydraulic hoses against contamination
During service work, open hydraulic hoses and connections are exposed to contact with dust, grit, sand, and metal shavings. The plastic cap male thread 1/4" BSP allows for temporary closing of a compatible hole, helping to limit the ingress of dirt into its interior.
Contaminants in hydraulic systems can accelerate the wear of pumps, manifolds, valves, and sealing elements. Therefore, protecting disconnected connections is an important element of the proper organization of power hydraulics repairs and maintenance.
Plastic cap 1/4" BSP for transport and storage
Protective plug male thread 1/4" BSP is useful during the transportation and storage of hydraulic parts. It allows for temporary closing of a threaded hole, helping to protect its interior from dust and accidental entry of foreign bodies.
The product can be used in repair shops, spare parts warehouses, and when preparing components for shipment. Before starting the system, the plastic cap must be removed and the proper hydraulic connection made.
Plastic protective plug vs. pressure cap
The plastic cap male thread 1/4" BSP serves a protective function and is not intended to maintain working pressure in the hydraulic system. It cannot replace a metal pressure plug or a component equipped with an appropriate sealing system.
If a connection is to remain closed during device operation, a properly selected hydraulic plug with confirmed working parameters, a compatible thread, and the correct sealing method should be used.
How to choose a plastic cap male thread 1/4" BSP?
Before purchasing, check if the hole to be protected has the correct internal thread BSP 1/4". For a standard cylindrical thread G 1/4, the external diameter of the male thread is approximately 13.16 mm, and the number of threads is 19 per inch. The cylindrical or tapered design of the thread should also be confirmed.
It is also important to determine the purpose of the plug. The product is for temporary protection of connections during repairs, transport, and storage. It is not suitable for closing a hydraulic system operating under pressure.
Assembly and disassembly of the plastic plug BSP 1/4"
Before assembly, turn off the device, safely depressurize the system, and clean the threaded hole. Then, ensure that the thread of the cap is compatible with the protected connection.
The plug should be screwed in carefully, without excessive force. If clear resistance occurs, stop the assembly and recheck the thread fit. Before starting the system, the plastic cap must be removed and the target working connection made.
Various colors – random packing
Plastic caps male thread 1/4" BSP are available in different color variants. Colors are packed and shipped randomly, so the received product may have a different color than the one shown in the photograph.
Color is not a primary technical selection criterion. The most important factors are thread compatibility and the protective purpose of the cap.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What thread does the plastic cap male thread 1/4" BSP have?
The cap has an external 1/4" BSP inch pipe thread. The standard G 1/4 cylindrical thread has an external diameter of approximately 13.16 mm and 19 threads per inch. Before installation, the compatibility of the actual plug thread with the connection should be checked.
Does the 1/4" BSP plastic plug withstand hydraulic pressure?
No. The product does not bear pressure loads and cannot be used to close an operating hydraulic system.
What is the 1/4" BSP plastic male thread cap used for?
It is used for the temporary protection of hoses, manifolds, cylinders, and other components against contamination during repairs, transport, storage, and assembly.
Is the 1/4" BSP thread the same as 1/4" NPT?
No. BSP and NPT threads belong to different systems. BSP 1/4 thread has 19 threads per inch and a 55° profile angle, while NPT 1/4 has 18 threads per inch and a 60° angle. They should not be used interchangeably.
Is it possible to choose the color of the cap?
The product is available in various colors, which are packed and shipped randomly. The color of the received cap may differ from the one shown in the photo.
Can the plastic cap be reused?
Before reuse, the condition of the thread and body should be checked. Damaged, cracked, or deformed elements should be replaced.
