Description
Threaded plastic plug / cap male 2" BSP
The threaded plastic plug male 2" BSP is a protective cap equipped with an external British Standard Pipe (BSP) thread, designed for temporary securing of hydraulic ports and openings. Made of plastic, this product helps protect the interior of hoses, manifolds, cylinders, valves, and other components from dust, dirt, sand, and metal shavings during repairs, transport, storage, and assembly.
The 2" BSP male plastic cap allows for the temporary closure of an open port with a compatible internal thread. It is used when replacing hydraulic hoses, servicing machinery, and preparing parts and devices for storage or shipment. The threaded design allows the plug to be seated in a properly matched opening until the final connection is made.
Important: the 2" BSP male plastic plug does not withstand pressure loads. It must not be used to close hydraulic or pneumatic systems operating under pressure.
Color information: the plugs are available in various colors, packed and shipped randomly. The color of the received product may differ from the one shown in the photo.

Application of the 2" BSP protective cap in power hydraulics
The 2" BSP male threaded plastic plug is used for temporary protection of hydraulic connections during service work, technical inspections, and equipment maintenance. It can be used in compatible openings of manifolds, cylinders, valves, and other elements equipped with the appropriate internal thread.
The cap is also useful during the disassembly of hoses and components of agricultural, construction, and industrial machinery. It helps reduce the risk of contaminants entering open ports before the components are reconnected to the system.
Male G 2" BSP thread – dimensions and identification
The 2" BSP thread belongs to the family of inch pipe threads. For cylindrical threads, the designation G 2 is used according to ISO 228-1. Its standard external diameter is approximately 59.61 mm, and the number of threads is 11 per inch, which corresponds to a pitch of approximately 2.309 mm.
BSP threads have a profile angle of 55°. However, a distinction must be made between BSPP cylindrical threads, designated by the letter G, and BSPT tapered threads, designated, among others, by the letter R. The term BSP alone does not determine whether the thread of a specific product is cylindrical or tapered.
It is worth noting that the 2" BSP designation does not mean an external thread diameter of 50.8 mm. In pipe threads, the nominal size does not directly correspond to the dimension measured with a caliper. A caliper and a thread gauge for inch threads can be used for identification.
Protection of hoses and ports against contamination
During the disassembly of hydraulic systems, open hoses and ports are exposed to contact with dust, dirt, sand, and metal shavings. The 2" BSP male plastic plug allows for the temporary closure of a compatible opening, helping to limit the access of contaminants to its interior.
Maintaining the cleanliness of components is essential for the durability and proper operation of power hydraulics. Contaminants entering the oil can accelerate the wear of pumps, valves, manifolds, and sealing elements. Protecting open ports is an important part of maintenance work.
2" BSP plastic plug for transport and storage
The 2" BSP male protective cap is useful during the transport and storage of hydraulic parts. It allows for temporary protection of a threaded opening from dust and accidental entry of foreign bodies into the component's interior.
The product can be used in power hydraulics workshops, spare parts warehouses, and during the preparation of components for shipment. Before starting the system, the plastic plug must be removed and the final hydraulic connection must be made.
Plastic – construction of the protective cap
The 2" BSP male plug is made of plastic. Its primary task is temporary protection of threaded openings during transport, storage, and service work.
The plastic construction is not intended to withstand pressure loads. During installation, avoid overtightening, which could lead to body deformation or damage to the plug's thread.
Protective cap vs. hydraulic pressure plug
The 2" BSP male plastic plug serves a protective function and is used for temporary protection of openings against contamination. It is not designed to maintain working pressure and cannot replace a properly selected hydraulic pressure plug.
If a connection is to remain closed during device operation, a hydraulic plug with confirmed operating parameters, the correct thread, and an appropriate sealing method must be used. Just because the thread fits does not mean the plastic cap can operate under pressure.
How to choose a 2" BSP male plastic plug?
Before purchasing, check if the opening to be protected has a compatible 2" BSP internal thread. A standard G 2 cylindrical thread has an external diameter of approximately 59.61 mm and 11 threads per inch. The type of thread and its compatibility with the plug's design must also be confirmed.
The intended use of the product must also be considered. The plug is suitable for temporary protection during repairs, transport, and storage, but not for closing a hydraulic system under pressure.
Installation and removal of the 2" BSP plastic plug
Before installation, turn off the device, safely depressurize the system, and clean the threaded opening. Then, check the compatibility of the plug's thread with the port being protected.
The cap should be screwed in carefully, without excessive force. If significant resistance occurs during installation, stop screwing and recheck the thread fit. The plastic plug must be removed before starting the system.
Different colors – random packaging
2" BSP male plastic plugs are available in various colors. Color variants are packed and shipped randomly, so the color of the received product may differ from the one shown in the photo.
Color is not a primary criterion for technical selection. The most important factors are thread compatibility and the protective purpose of the cap.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What thread does the 2" BSP male plastic plug have?
The plug has a 2" BSP external pipe thread. A standard G 2 cylindrical thread has an external diameter of approximately 59.61 mm and 11 threads per inch. Thread compatibility should be confirmed before installation.
Does the 2" BSP plastic plug withstand hydraulic pressure?
No. The product does not withstand pressure loads and cannot be used to close an operating hydraulic system.
What is the 2" BSP male plastic plug used for?
It is used for temporary protection of hoses, manifolds, cylinders, and other components from contamination during transport, storage, assembly, and repair.
Does the 2" BSP thread have an external diameter of 50.8 mm?
No. The 2" designation refers to the nominal size of the pipe thread. A standard G 2 cylindrical thread has an external diameter of approximately 59.61 mm, so the designation should not be directly converted to the diameter measured with a caliper.
What is the difference between BSPP and BSPT threads?
BSPP stands for cylindrical thread, while BSPT stands for tapered thread. Both systems have a 55° profile angle but differ in geometry. Before installing the plug, confirm the thread type's compatibility with the port to be protected.
Can I choose the color of the plastic plug?
The plugs come in various colors, packed and shipped randomly. The color of the received product may differ from the one shown in the photo.
Can the plastic plug be reused?
Check the condition of the thread and body before reuse. Damaged, cracked, or deformed plugs must be replaced.
