Description
Threaded plastic plug / cap male 1/8" BSP
The male 1/8" BSP threaded plastic plug is a protective cap designed for the temporary closing of holes and connections with a compatible female BSP thread. The product is made of plastic and helps protect the interior of hydraulic hoses, control valves, cylinders, and other components from dust, dirt, and contamination during transport, storage, assembly, and repair.
The plug has an external 1/8" BSP inch pipe thread. Its task is to protect the connection from dirt until the target hydraulic connection is made. This is a practical solution used during machine servicing, hose replacement, and securing parts prepared for transport.
Important: the male 1/8" BSP plastic plug does not carry pressure loads. It is not intended for closing hydraulic or pneumatic systems operating under pressure.
Color information: the product is available in various colors, packed and sent randomly. The color of the received plug may differ from the one shown in the photo.

Application of the 1/8" BSP protective plug in power hydraulics
The male 1/8" BSP plastic plug is used for temporary protection of threaded holes in hydraulic system components. It can be used during hose replacement, equipment repairs, machine maintenance, and preparing parts for transport and storage.
Example applications include compatible connections of hydraulic control valves, cylinders, valves, and hose ends with appropriate female BSP threads. The plug reduces the risk of contamination entering the components during their temporary disconnection from the system.
Male 1/8" BSP thread – dimensions and identification
The 1/8" BSP designation refers to the nominal size of the inch pipe thread. For standard cylindrical threads, the G 1/8 designation is used, which has an outside diameter of approximately 9.73 mm and a thread count of 28 per inch.
The 1/8" nominal size does not directly correspond to the outside diameter measured with a caliper. When identifying a thread, check its diameter, pitch, and type. A caliper, an inch thread gauge, and a BSP dimension table are helpful.
Protecting hydraulic hoses from contamination
During repairs to power hydraulic systems, open hoses and connections are exposed to contact with dust, dirt, sand, metal shavings, and other contaminants. The 1/8" BSP plastic plug allows for temporary closing of a compatible hole and helps protect the component's interior from contamination.
Maintaining component cleanliness is particularly important in power hydraulics. Contaminants entering the system can affect the durability of precision components such as valves, control valves, and hydraulic pumps.
1/8" BSP plug for transport and storage
The plastic cap with an external 1/8" BSP thread is useful when securing hydraulic parts intended for transport and storage. Temporary closing of the connection helps limit the contact of its interior with dust and accidental foreign bodies.
The product can be used in repair shops, warehouses, and during the preparation of machines and equipment for servicing. Before starting the system, the plug should be removed and the target hydraulic connection made.
Plastic protective plug vs. hydraulic pressure plug
The male 1/8" BSP plastic plug is a protective element designed for temporary closing of threaded holes. It cannot replace a hydraulic plug designed for work under pressure.
If the connection is to remain closed during system operation, a properly selected pressure plug with confirmed operating parameters and the correct sealing method should be used. A compatible thread size alone does not mean the plastic plug is suitable for such an application.
Differences between 1/8" BSP and 1/8" NPT threads
BSP and NPT threads belong to different pipe thread systems. A standard BSP thread has a profile angle of 55°, while NPT has a 60° angle. For the 1/8" size, both systems have 28 threads per inch, but they differ in profile geometry and dimensions.
A 1/8" BSP plug should not be treated as a direct replacement for a 1/8" NPT plug. Before installation, confirm the type of thread used in the secured connection.
How to choose a male 1/8" BSP plastic plug?
Before purchasing, ensure that the hole to be secured has a compatible female 1/8" BSP thread. It is worth checking the thread diameter and pitch, as well as its technical condition.
The purpose of the plug should also be determined. The product is suitable for temporary protection of holes and connections during transport, storage, and repairs, but it cannot be used as a closure for a working hydraulic system under pressure.
Assembly and disassembly of the 1/8" BSP plastic plug
Before assembly, turn off the device, safely depressurize the system, and clean the threaded hole. Then, check the compatibility of the internal thread with the plug.
The plug should be screwed in carefully, without using excessive force. If resistance occurs during assembly, stop screwing and re-check the thread fit. Before starting the system, the plastic plug should be removed and replaced with the correct connecting element.
Various colors – random packing
Male 1/8" BSP plastic plugs are available in various color variants. Colors are packed and shipped randomly, so the delivered plug may be a different color than the one shown in the photo.
The basic selection criterion is the compatibility of the thread type and size and the protective purpose of the product. Color does not affect the fit of the plug to a compatible connection.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What thread does the 1/8" BSP plastic plug have?
The plug has an external 1/8" BSP inch pipe thread. A standard G 1/8 cylindrical thread has an outside diameter of approximately 9.73 mm and 28 threads per inch.
Does the 1/8" BSP plastic plug withstand hydraulic pressure?
No. The plug is protective in nature and does not carry pressure loads. It cannot be used to close the system during its operation.
What is the male 1/8" BSP plastic plug used for?
It is used for temporary protection of hoses, control valves, cylinders, and other components against contamination during transport, storage, assembly, and repair.
Can I choose the color of the plug?
The product comes in various colors, packed randomly. The color of the delivered plug may differ from the one shown in the photo.
Is 1/8" BSP thread the same as 1/8" NPT?
No. Despite the same number of threads per inch, BSP and NPT threads differ in profile angle and geometry. They should not be used interchangeably without confirmation of technical compatibility.
Can the plastic plug be reused?
Before reuse, check the condition of the thread and the entire body. Do not re-install a plug that is cracked, deformed, or damaged.
