Oil pressure regulator

Hydraulic oil pressure regulation valve.

Pressure reducing valves ( hydraulic pressure reducer ) valves in which we can adjust the pressure ( the rest goes into the overflow to tank ) The valve allows maintaining a constant hydraulic oil pressure, regardless of the input pressure. Valves used in situations where we must supply a specific pressure to a hydraulic device. Excess pressure is directed to the overflow. This valve maintains a constant pressure downstream of the valve regardless of the pressure upstream.

How to connect a pressure reducing valve

Connect P to the main circuit ( supply ). Connect Reg. port to the circuit where you want to reduce the pressure. Connect T to the tank ( overflow of excess oil )

Technical data of oil pressure regulating valves :

  • Body : galvanized steel.
  • Internal parts: hardened and ground steel.
  • Seals : BUNA N standard
  • Flow : 30l/min ( 3/8", 1/2" )

Hydraulic pressure valve for oil pressure regulation

A hydraulic pressure valve is used where it is necessary to protect a selected part of the installation against too high pressure or to ensure a specific pressure value for a given receiver. In practice, this can be an actuator, a hydraulic motor, a control system, working equipment or an additional machine circuit. If the main system operates with a higher pressure, the pressure reducing valve allows a lower, stable value to be supplied to the selected device. At Hydron, valves of this type are available in the category pressure reducing valves, which is part of a broader group hydraulic valves. When assembling an installation, it is also worth checking pressure gauges and vacuum gauges, because without pressure control it is difficult to correctly set and verify the valve operation.

Pressure reducing valve vs. relief valve

A pressure reducing valve and a relief valve do not perform the same function, even though both are related to pressure. A pressure reducing valve maintains a lower, set pressure in a specific working circuit. A relief valve protects the system against exceeding the permissible pressure and opens the overflow only when the pressure reaches the set limit. If the goal is a constant pressure reduction for one receiver, the right choice will be a pressure reducing valve. If the system is to be protected against overload, you should check relief valves. In many installations, both elements may occur simultaneously, but they are responsible for different tasks.

Oil pressure reducer-what is it and what is it used for?

An oil pressure reducer, also called a pressure reducing valve, is an element of the hydraulic system, which is designed to maintain a constant, specified oil pressure on the output side, regardless of changes in pressure on the supply side. Thanks to this, it ensures safe and stable operation of the entire hydraulic system and protects its components against overload or damage. In practice, the pressure reducer works on the principle of automatically limiting the pressure of the working fluid (hydraulic oil), directing its excess back to the tank or another circuit when the set pressure threshold is exceeded.

Application and function of the oil pressure reducer

A hydraulic oil pressure reducer is used everywhere where it is necessary to maintain appropriate pressure in one or several circuits of the system. In power hydraulics, it is of great importance because: it protects system components such as actuators, hoses and hydraulic couplings, against excessive load, stabilizes the operation of machines, ensuring a constant oil flow at a safe pressure, enables independent control of circuits – e.g. when different sections of the system require different pressure values, increases the service life of the entire hydraulic system, reducing the risk of failure and leaks. Hydraulic oil pressure reducers are often installed in supply or control lines, e.g. in hydraulic presses, lifting systems, production lines or construction machinery.

Why is the oil pressure reducer so important?

Without a reducer, the hydraulic system would be exposed to sudden pressure spikes that can lead to hose rupture, leaks or damage to actuators. A properly selected hydraulic oil pressure reducer: increases the operational safety of the entire system, maintains stable machine operating parameters, protects the pump and valves from overload, reduces service and downtime costs. An oil pressure reducer is an inconspicuous but extremely important element of every hydraulic system. Thanks to it, it is possible to precisely maintain the working pressure, which directly translates into the reliability and durability of the entire installation. Hydron's offer includes high-quality hydraulic oil pressure reducers that ensure stable operation even in the most demanding industrial conditions.

Hydraulic reducer-what is it?

What is a hydraulic reducer? A hydraulic reducer is a pressure control valve in a hydraulic system whose task is to limit and maintain a constant, lower pressure in a selected part of the installation, regardless of pressure fluctuations in the main supply line. In practice, this means that the reducer protects individual elements of the system – e.g. actuators, hydraulic motors or valves against excessive pressure that could lead to their damage. It works similarly to a classic pressure reducing valve, i.e. it automatically lowers the pressure of the flowing oil to a set value, and then maintains it at that level even with changes in load or supply pressure fluctuations. A hydraulic reducer is an inconspicuous but extremely essential element of a hydraulic system. Thanks to it, it is possible to safely and precisely control pressure in different parts of the installation, which translates into greater durability, reliability and efficiency of the entire system.

Construction of a hydraulic reducer

A hydraulic reducer is built from:

  • a body – usually made of high-strength steel or cast iron,
  • a control valve (poppet or spool) – which regulates the oil flow,
  • a regulation spring – allowing for the setting of the desired reduction pressure,
  • oil channels – ensuring flow and drainage of excess oil.
  • Some reducers are equipped with an adjustment screw, allowing for precise setting of the output pressure, e.g. in the range from 10 to 200 bar, depending on the model.

Operating principle of a hydraulic reducer

The operation of a hydraulic reducer is based on the automatic regulation of oil flow:

1. Oil under pressure reaches the valve.

2. The spring presses the regulatory element, allowing oil through until the pressure in the secondary circuit reaches the set value.

3. When the pressure rises above the set value, the valve partially closes, limiting the flow and thus maintaining a constant pressure. Thanks to this, the pressure in a given circuit (e.g. supplying a delicate actuator) does not exceed the permissible value, even if the pressure in the main line increases.

Application of a hydraulic reducer

A hydraulic reducer is used in systems where it is necessary to differentiate pressure in different parts of the system. Typical applications: in multi-section systems where different receivers require different pressure values, for protecting actuators and valves against too high pressure, in precision systems, e.g. in industrial and laboratory machines, in agricultural and construction machines, where part of the system works at a lower pressure (e.g. power steering, control sections).

Advantages of using a hydraulic reducer

  • protects installation elements against overload,

  • stabilizes pressure in the selected circuit,

  • increases the service life of hydraulic components,

  • improves the precision and smoothness of system operation,

  • enables independent control of sections with different pressure requirements.

Practical application example

Imagine a hydraulic system in a loader where the main circuit operates at a pressure of 250 bar, and the power steering system requires only 60 bar. In such a case, between the main supply line and the power steering system, a hydraulic reduceris installed, which reduces the pressure from 250 to 60 bar, ensuring safe and stable operation.
