Shut-off valve with venting
Plug-in pneumatic venting valves. A ball valve with venting is a type of directional shut-off valve. The valves are designed for installation in systems made of Tekalan type pneumatic lines ( PA-polyamide, PU-polyurethane, PE-polyethylene, PVC-polyvinyl chloride ) Ball valves with venting are used to ensure the cut-off of the air supply on the inlet side and simultaneously release air from the part of the system located behind the valve. The valve is equipped with push-in fittings on both sides ( mounting by pressing the tube into the push-in socket )
Difference between a shut-off valve and a venting valve
A regular plug-in pneumatic shut-off valve only allows for the complete closing or opening of the medium flow (most often compressed air) in the system. Its main function is to isolate a section of the installation to ensure safety during maintenance, component replacement, or in the event of a failure. Such a valve operates in a simple way – after closing, it prevents the flow of the medium in both directions, leaving the medium in the isolated part of the system. A pneumatic shut-off valve with venting, in addition to the flow shut-off function, has an additional venting mechanism that allows the medium (e.g., compressed air) to be released from the isolated section of the installation. Thanks to this, the shut-off part of the system does not remain under pressure, which increases safety and facilitates maintenance work or component replacement.
What does venting mean ?
Venting is the process of controlled release of a compressed medium (air or other gas) from a closed part of the system to the environment or to a dedicated outlet. In practice, valves with venting are equipped with an additional channel or port that opens after the flow is closed, allowing for pressure release. Benefits of the venting function: Work safety: Removing pressure eliminates the risk of unexpected leaks, explosions, or accidental release of the medium during service work. Ease of maintenance: Venting allows for quick pressure discharge in an isolated section of the installation, which facilitates the replacement or repair of components. Protection of system elements: Leaving pressure in a closed section can lead to damage to seals or other system components.
When are valves with venting used ?
Shut-off valves with venting are particularly useful in: High-pressure systems where controlled venting ensures work safety. Installations requiring regular maintenance, e.g., in workshops, production systems, or laboratories. Systems with high flows where the accumulating medium could pose a threat to operators. In summary, the difference between a regular shut-off valve and a valve with venting lies in the addition of a controlled medium release function, which increases safety and convenience of operation in more demanding installations.
