Description

PTFE Hose DN08 convoluted -60°C to +260°C 172 bar

The DN08 convoluted PTFE hose is a high-pressure teflon tube designed for transporting appropriately selected liquids, oils, fuels, and chemical substances. It features a nominal diameter of DN08 (5/16"), a maximum working pressure of 172 bar, and a temperature range from -60°C to +260°C. The inner layer made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) stands out for its chemical and thermal resistance, while the external stainless steel braid reinforces the tube's structure. The convoluted design makes it easier to route the hose around bends and in installations with limited assembly space. The product is used in appropriately selected industrial, hydraulic, and technological systems.

Technical parameters of the PTFE DN08 hose

  • Tube type: convoluted PTFE teflon hose.
  • Nominal diameter: DN08 (5/16").
  • Working pressure: 172 bar.
  • Temperature range: from -60°C to +260°C.
  • Inner layer: polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE).
  • Inner layer construction: convoluted.
  • External reinforcement: stainless steel braid.
  • Properties: resistance to many chemical substances, oils, and solvents.
  • Assembly of fittings: crimping of appropriately selected elements on a hydraulic press.
  • Sales unit: linear meter.

Industrial applications of teflon hoses

The DN08 convoluted PTFE hose is used in installations requiring resistance to aggressive chemical substances, high temperatures, and appropriately selected working pressure. It can be used for transferring oils, fuels, solvents, acids, bases, and other media compatible with PTFE. Proper selection of the hose requires considering the chemical composition of the substance, its temperature, and the operating conditions of the entire installation.

Tubes of this type are used, among others, in the chemical industry, technological systems, transfer installations, and selected hydraulic systems. The hose can be a solution where traditional rubber tubes do not provide sufficient material or thermal resistance.

Convoluted PTFE construction and hose flexibility

A convoluted inner layer means a corrugated wall structure of the tube. This construction allows for greater bending susceptibility than in the case of many comparable smooth-bore PTFE hoses. This facilitates making connections in places with limited space and routing the tube between installation elements.

Convoluting also matters for flow characteristics. Compared to a smooth inner surface, it may increase flow resistance; therefore, when selecting for installations with high flow rates, one should consider the length of the tube, the viscosity of the medium, and the required system parameters. The hose should not be bent below the minimum radius permitted for its construction.

Chemical resistance of the teflon layer

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is characterized by very wide chemical resistance. This material is resistant to many acids, bases, oils, fuels, and solvents used in industry. It also stands out for its resistance to UV radiation, oxygen, and the effects of atmospheric conditions.

However, PTFE resistance is not unlimited. Substances requiring special caution include, among others, fluorine in gaseous form, molten alkali metals, chlorine trifluoride, and oxygen difluoride. When using the tube for highly reactive or unusual media, the compatibility of the entire assembly, including fittings and seals, must be confirmed.

Stainless steel braid

The external stainless steel braid provides mechanical reinforcement for the DN08 PTFE hose. Its task is to transfer loads generated during pressure operation and to protect the thermoplastic core from selected mechanical damage.

Stainless steel provides good corrosion resistance in many industrial environments. When selecting for aggressive chemicals, however, one must consider not only the resistance of the PTFE but also the compatibility of the external braid with environmental conditions and the fitting materials with the transported medium.

Temperature from -60°C to +260°C and pressure 172 bar

The DN08 PTFE hose is designed to operate in a temperature range from -60°C to +260°C. The wide temperature range allows the selection of the tube for installations operating at low or high temperatures. The compatibility of all elements of the finished connection with the required operating conditions is of particular importance.

The nominal working pressure of the hose is 172 bar. The permissible pressure may require reduction as temperature increases. Before using the tube at a high temperature, the appropriate pressure values for the operating conditions and the parameters of the fittings and ferrules used must be verified.

Convoluted vs smooth PTFE hose

PTFE hoses come in convoluted and smooth versions. The convoluted design provides greater flexibility, which is beneficial when making connections in limited space. Smooth versions, on the other hand, may offer more favorable flow conditions and easier cleaning of the inner surface.

An alternative is the PTFE DN08 smooth bore hose 207 bar. The smooth model has a different working pressure and a different core construction. Before substitution, dimensions, bend radius, operating conditions, and fitting compatibility should be compared.

Crimping fittings onto the PTFE DN08 hose

The DN08 PTFE hose can be used to create complete hose assemblies with appropriately selected crimp fittings. For assembly, components compatible with the convoluted construction must be used, taking into account the actual dimensions of the hose and the material of the inner layer.

Crimping parameters intended for smooth PTFE hoses or rubber hydraulic hoses should not be applied automatically. The finished assembly must maintain tightness and the required pressure resistance under actual operating conditions. HYDRON also offers custom-made crimped hydraulic hoses.

Why choose the DN08 convoluted PTFE hose?

  • Working pressure 172 bar.
  • Temperature range from -60°C to +260°C.
  • Nominal diameter DN08 (5/16").
  • Convoluted construction for increased flexibility.
  • PTFE inner layer resistant to many chemical substances.
  • Stainless steel braid reinforcing the tube.
  • Applicable in appropriately selected technological installations.
  • Sold by the linear meter.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the working pressure of the DN08 convoluted PTFE hose?

The nominal working pressure is 172 bar. At elevated temperatures, the permissible pressure for actual operating conditions should be checked.

Is the DN08 teflon hose suitable for chemicals?

PTFE is resistant to many acids, bases, and solvents. However, before application to a specific substance, its compatibility with the materials of the entire hose assembly must be confirmed.

What is the difference between convoluted and smooth PTFE hoses?

A convoluted hose has a corrugated core that increases flexibility. A smooth hose has a uniform inner surface, which is more favorable in terms of flow resistance.

Can the DN08 PTFE hose be crimped?

Yes, using appropriately selected fittings and ferrules designed for convoluted PTFE hoses. Crimping parameters must be consistent with the components used.
