5/2 Monostable Pneumatic Solenoid Valves (With Single Coil)
5/2 pneumatic solenoid valves with single coil (monostable) are one of the most popular control components used in industrial automation and power pneumatics. They are used to control the operation of double-acting pneumatic actuators, allowing for precise changes in the direction of compressed air flow.
Operating Principle of a Monostable Solenoid Valve (5/2)
The 5/2 solenoid valve features 5 connection ports (supply, two working ports for the actuator, and two exhaust ports) and 2 operating positions. In the version with a single electromagnetic coil, the change of the spool position occurs after applying voltage to the coil. The resulting magnetic field attracts the core, switching the valve to the working position.
When voltage is lost (e.g., as a result of a signal from a PLC controller or power failure), the magnetic field disappears, and the integrated return spring automatically returns the valve to its original position. This ensures a safe, defined state of the system in the event of a power failure.
Supply Voltages and Connection Methods
Controlling a pneumatic solenoid valve involves providing the appropriate electrical signal. Depending on the application requirements, 5/2 valves can be equipped with coils of various supply voltages:
- Direct current (DC): most popular variants 24V DC and 12V DC.
- Alternating current (AC): variants 230V AC, 110V AC, or 24V AC.
The electrical connection is made using standard plugs (e.g., DIN with an LED indicating the operating state) or direct cables. Pneumatic connections allow for easy installation of hoses using push-in fittings or threaded connectors on metric or inch threads (e.g., G 1/8", G 1/4", G 1/2").
Industrial Application
5/2 solenoid valves with a single coil are commonly used in production lines, packaging machines, pneumatic presses, transport devices, and wherever automatic and reliable control of double-acting actuators is required.
