The working medium, which is air, makes , that this type of medium is increasingly popular in machines and devices in every industry. Solenoid valves, due to the fact that they are used for transmitting air, are referred to as an "air solenoid valve"  

Application of solenoid valves 

Five-way solenoid valves (5/2, 5/3) are widely used to control pneumatic cylinders double-acting, while 3/2 three-way pneumatic valves are for controlling single-acting cylinders.
