Stainless Steel Threaded Elbows 90° (BB) – High-Pressure Acid-Resistant Fittings
Stainless steel 90° male-to-male threaded elbows (BB / double male nipple elbows) are high-pressure hydraulic fittings designed to change flow direction by 90 degrees without tube bending. Manufactured from premium AISI 316 / AISI 304 (1.4571) stainless steel, they provide a reliable connection between flexible hoses and rigid tubes in the most demanding operating environments.
Monolithic Design and Material Construction
All high-pressure BB elbows offered by HYDRON are manufactured as solid one-piece drop forgings (monoblock) – without welds, joints, or brazed seams. This ensures maximum hydraulic efficiency, eliminates material weak points, and guarantees smooth fluid flow without leaks or pressure drops.
- 1.4571 Stainless Steel (AISI 316Ti / AISI 316L): Titanium and molybdenum alloying delivers outstanding resistance to pitting and intergranular corrosion, acids, alkalis, salt water, and UV radiation.
- Extreme Thermal Resistance: Solid stainless steel construction retains full mechanical integrity across a wide temperature range from -40°C up to +250°C.
Thread Standards and Sealing Types Available
To ensure full compatibility with European and international hydraulic systems, we supply BB elbows in several standard connection styles:
- Metric DIN 2353 / ISO 8434-1 (24° Cone):
- Light Series (L): From M12x1.5 (6L) to M52x2 (42L) – for standard pressure systems.
- Heavy Series (S): From M14x1.5 (6S) to M52x2 (38S) – engineered for extreme pressure levels and hydraulic shocks.
- Available as body only or as a complete assembly (body + cutting rings + AISI 316 swivel nuts).
- Imperial BSP / BSPP (60° Cone): Compliant with ISO 8434-6 / BS 5200 (sizes from 1/8" BSP to 1.1/2" BSP) – universal metal-to-metal seating.
- American JIC / UNF (37° Flare): Compliant with ISO 8434-2 / SAE J514 (sizes from 7/16" UNF to 1.5/16" UNF).

Applications in Demanding Industries
- Marine & Offshore: Ship decks, winches, and offshore equipment exposed to harsh saltwater environments.
- Food & Pharmaceutical Industry: Processing lines subject to frequent chemical washdowns (CIP – Clean-in-Place systems).
- Chemical & Petrochemical Processing: Lines conveying fuels, solvents, and corrosive process fluids.
- Agricultural & Municipal Machinery: Fertilizer spreaders, sprayers, and salt spreaders where agricultural chemicals rule out galvanized steel.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the difference between a BB elbow and an adjustable stud elbow?
A BB elbow fitting features identical male threads on both ends (a 90° male nipple connecting two swivel female nuts or tubes). An adjustable stud elbow features a port thread on one end (e.g., with ED seal) to thread directly into a pump or valve body, and a tube thread on the other end.
Are stainless steel metric elbows supplied complete with nuts and rings?
At HYDRON, we offer them in two options: as fitting bodies only, or as complete assemblies supplied with AISI 316 stainless steel cutting rings and retaining nuts, ready for direct installation onto rigid tubes.
How do I select the right metric series (L vs S)?
Light (L) and Heavy (S) series differ in tube wall thickness, thread pitch, and maximum working pressure ratings. Check the outer tube diameter and the matching female nut thread dimensions before ordering.
