Straight AB fittings

AB swivel nut fittings - fittings with a nut and male thread

AB hydraulic connectors feature a swivel nut (A) on one side and an external male thread (B) on the other. Connectors used in high-pressure hydraulic systems - AB fittings are used to reduce threads in a pressure installation. Connectors are available with the same thread types, e.g., metric, inch, or in a reduction version, e.g., BSP/UNF. In our offer, we have practically every type of thread reduction. Construction: galvanized free-cutting steel. Fittings are available in two versions: with a crimped swivel nut or a wire-secured swivel nut (the nut is fixed with a wire inside the nut). We also offer a version of the fitting with two nuts, namely AA connectors

What are AB straight fittings?

AB straight fittings are elements of hydraulic systems that enable the connection of hydraulic hoses and other components in industrial and mobile systems. Thanks to their design, they allow for the extension of an existing connection or the reduction of the thread used. AB fittings are available both with the same thread on both sides and in a reduction version with different threads.

Construction of AB fittings

Construction: AB fittings have an internal thread (nut) on one side and a male thread on the other. Their design allows for easy assembly and disassembly in systems requiring regular maintenance. Materials: Available in versions made of carbon steel (with zinc coating), stainless steel, and brass, ensuring corrosion resistance and long service life. Standards: Manufactured in accordance with DIN 2353 and ISO 8434-1 standards, which guarantees their compatibility with a wide range of hydraulic systems. Sizes: Available in a wide range of metric sizes from M12x1.5 to M52x2, inch sizes from 1/4" to 2", and others.

Where are AB connectors used?

AB straight fittings are widely used in many industries: Industrial machinery hydraulic systems: Support efficient medium flow under high pressure. Agricultural and construction machinery. Chemical and petrochemical industry: Due to their resistance to aggressive media, they are used in pipelines and transmission systems. Power hydraulics: Used in installations requiring high reliability and resistance to vibrations. Industries where AB fittings are most commonly used: Power hydraulics, Agriculture: For tractors and combines with advanced hydraulic systems. Construction industry: For heavy machinery such as excavators, loaders, or cranes.

AB type reduction connector ( nut, male thread )

What is a reduction connector? A reduction connector is a hydraulic fitting element that enables the connection of lines, hoses, or other components with different thread diameters or dimensions. This allows for seamless integration of hydraulic system components, ensuring tightness and safe flow of the working medium – most often hydraulic oil. AB fittings are one of the types of reduction connectors available in our store. Reduction fittings are made of high-quality steel, which ensures their strength against high pressures and resistance to corrosion. They stand out for precise threading, which allows for trouble-free assembly and a tight connection. Depending on the application, they may have different thread types: metric (M), inch (BSP, UNF, NPT), tapered or flat.

Technical parameters of AB fittings

  • Material: Carbon steel, stainless steel
  • Protective surface: Anti-corrosion coatings, Zinc-nickel coating, stainless steel
  • Thread types: Metric, BSP, UNF. REDUCTION
  • Available sizes: M12x1.5–M52x2; 1/4"–2".
  • Maximum working pressure: 90–400 bar depending on size and material.

Classification by threads used

Straight AB fittings reduction adapters with swivel nut and male thread

Straight AB fittings (A-B swivel nut adapters / nut-to-male straight reductions) are standardized power hydraulic fasteners used for fast, leak-free connection and reduction of flexible hoses and components in pressure systems. The AB design features a swivel nut with internal thread on one side (side A) and an external male thread on the other (side B). This solution eliminates the need to twist connected pressure hoses during assembly. The category includes equal and reduction fittings in a wide range of threads: metric (light L and heavy S series per DIN 2353 with 24° cone), inch BSP/BSPP (with 60° cone), American JIC (74°/37° cone), ORFS (O-ring flat face seal), and combined versions (M/BSP, BSP/JIC, ORFS/BSP). Made of free-cutting steel covered with a galvanic coating, it guarantees high mechanical strength and resistance to working pressures reaching up to 400 bar.

Application and technical characteristics of AB straight fittings

Straight AB swivel nut adapters are commonly used during expansion, service, and modernization of hydraulic systems in agricultural, construction, and forestry machinery, as well as industrial equipment. They enable efficient changing of the flow diameter or thread standard without having to modify the entire line.

  • Swivel nut-male connection (A-B): Female swivel nut on side A and male thread on side B ensure convenient assembly without axial hose twisting.
  • Variety of sealing systems: Available sealing cones 24° (DIN 2353 metric), 60° (BSP inch), 74° (JIC UNF), and flat faces with an O-ring (ORFS).
  • Wide range of reduction possibilities: Allow easy transition between different thread sizes (e.g., M14x1.5 to M22x1.5, 1/2" BSP to 3/4" JIC or 13/16" ORFS to 1/2" BSP).
  • High working pressure resistance: Forged body made of galvanized steel maintains stability under pressure from 160 to 400 bar (depending on series and diameter).
  • Corrosion protection: Zinc coating with white passivation protects the component from moisture, mineral oils, and atmospheric factors.

Why choose AB straight fittings from the HYDRON store?

AB straight fittings offered in the HYDRON store are manufactured based on strict dimensional regimes of DIN 2353, PN-EN ISO 8434-1, and ISO 8434-6\. Precisely cut threads and ground contact cones guarantee complete tightness without the risk of hydraulic oil micro-leaks. The rich assortment allows for instantaneous selection of the correct adapter for any pressure system. For complete equipment and service of a hydraulic installation, we also recommend other products from our offer, such as flexible hydraulic hoses, matching hose ends, self-sealing test points and precise test kits.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What does the AB symbol mean in the name of a hydraulic fitting?

The AB designation informs about the fitting design: side A has a swivel nut with an internal thread (female), while side B has an external thread (male). This allows for connecting a male thread to a female thread without rotating the hose.

Can AB fittings be screwed into a pump or cylinder body?

Standard AB straight fittings have threads designed for cone connections (24°, 60°, or 74°) and are not equipped with an ED or O-ring face seal. For direct threading into pump and manifold bodies, straight ED stud fittings are used.

What is the difference between light series (L) and heavy series (S) in metric AB fittings?

The light series (L) is designed for standard working pressures (up to 315 bar) and thinner tubes. The heavy series (S) has thicker walls, a smaller internal bore, and withstands higher working pressures (up to 400 bar).

Do 24° or 60° cone connections require Teflon tape?

No. Sealing in cone fittings occurs mechanically on the metal-to-metal contact surface. Using Teflon tape or hemp on cone connections is unnecessary and can interfere with the correct tightening of the nut.
