AA ORFS straight female connectors

AA straight fittings with ORFS threads (American) ORFS female connectors are used to connect elements with external threads such as e.g. BB straight connectors ORFS or hose fittings with ORFS external threads. Connectors with 2 swivel nuts enabling screwing onto external threads. AA ORFS straight fittings are hydraulic components designed for connecting lines and components in power hydraulic systems. The abbreviation ORFS stands for "O-Ring Face Seal", which refers to a face seal using an O-ring, thus ensuring high connection tightness. These fittings are characterized by two swivel nuts that allow them to be screwed onto external threads. AA ORFS straight fittings are distinguished by the possibility of working at an operating pressure of up to 630 bar, which makes them suitable for applications in demanding conditions. Thanks to the design with two swivel nuts, assembly on external threads is simple and fast. Additionally, the O-ring face seal ensures reliability and durability of the connection, minimizing the risk of leaks. AA ORFS connectors can be replaced by using a short hose crimped on both sides with ORFS fittings - such a solution is cheaper than using less popular AA ORFS fittings. Execution: free-cutting steel covered with zinc coating. In case of absence of the sought connector, please contact the sales department - we will present an offer for a replacement, i.e., a short hose crimped on both sides with an ORFS thread nut

AA ORFS straight fittings

AA ORFS straight fittings are connection components used in power hydraulics to connect two ports in an ORFS system. The AA-type design means a straight fitting with nuts on both sides. This solution allows for an in-line connection and is used in installations using the ORFS standard.

The ORFS (O-Ring Face Seal) system uses a face seal with an O-ring. Thanks to this, the sealing surface and the thread perform different functions: the thread is responsible for the proper tightening of the elements, while the tightness of the connection is ensured by the pressure of the O-ring seal against the face surface.

AA ORFS fitting - construction and application

AA ORFS fittings are used wherever two cooperating installation elements require connection using ORFS nuts. The simple design allows for a connection without changing the direction of the installation. Individual variants may differ in port size, so the fitting should be selected for both sides of the connection being made.

Fittings of this type are used, among others, in mobile hydraulics, agricultural, construction and industrial machinery, as well as during the construction, modernization and repair of hydraulic systems.

Why are ORFS connections used in hydraulics?

A characteristic feature of the ORFS system is the face seal. The O-ring is located between the cooperating surfaces and is responsible for the tightness of the connection. This design distinguishes ORFS from, among others, systems using sealing on conical surfaces.

ORFS connections are particularly useful in hydraulic installations where tightness and proper connection of lines and system components are essential.

How to choose an AA ORFS straight fitting?

Before ordering, both ports must be precisely identified. Measuring the thread diameter alone should not be the only selection criterion, because threads of similar dimensions may belong to different hydraulic systems.

  • check if both connections are made in the ORFS standard,
  • determine the thread size on both sides,
  • check the condition and dimensions of the sealing surfaces,
  • select the fitting for the required port sizes,
  • verify the operating parameters of the specific variant,
  • check compatibility with other elements of the installation.

If both ports have the same size, a suitable straight fitting is used. If the sizes on both sides of the installation are different, a variant allowing for a proper transition between them should be selected.

AA, AB and BB fittings - what are the differences?

The designations AA, AB and BB help distinguish the construction of straight fittings. In the case of an AA fitting, there are nuts on both sides. AB fittings have a different end configuration, while BB fittings use two external threads. The correct type should therefore be selected not only according to the thread standard, but also according to the ends of the elements that are to be connected.

If you need other configurations, also check hydraulic fittings available at HYDRON. The offer includes solutions used in various hydraulic connection standards.

ORFS vs JIC, BSP and metric threads

ORFS should not be selected interchangeably based only on a similar thread diameter. JIC, BSP, metric connections and ORFS differ in construction and sealing method. It is particularly important to recognize the sealing surface. In ORFS, tightness is achieved by an O-ring face seal.

When repairing a machine or modernizing an older installation, it is worth first accurately identifying the standard used, and only then selecting the appropriate fitting size.

FAQ - AA ORFS straight fittings

What does ORFS mean?

ORFS is an abbreviation for O-Ring Face Seal. It is a connection system using a face sealing surface and an O-ring.

What does AA mean in the name of the fitting?

In this group, AA means a straight fitting design equipped with nuts on both sides.

Are ORFS and JIC the same system?

No. These are different hydraulic connection systems using different sealing surface solutions. Elements should be selected according to the standard used in the installation.

How to order the correct AA ORFS fitting?

The ORFS standard and the sizes of both ports must be specified. In case of doubt, it is worth comparing the thread dimensions and the design of the sealing surfaces before placing an order.
