BSP / JIC elbow connections

Adjustable elbow connection body with BSP and JIC thread

Elbow connections with BSP threads / JIC. Elbow fitting bodies. On the connection side (screwed into the body), a British Standard Pipe (BSP) inch thread. On the hose connection side, a JIC thread (UNF external thread)  Execution:  highest quality free-cutting steel coated with zinc in white passivation. Elements made from a monoblock (one piece), so they can be used in the most demanding conditions. Monoblock connectors are much more durable than soldered elements (composed of 2 elements). Alternative designation: / Adjustable male stud elbow with o-ring and washer - thread BSP parallel - thread metric parallel;  Elbow fitting ST.05. Connectors found in forestry machinery and equipment as well as construction equipment.. BSP JIC elbow fittings are widely used in various industrial sectors, such as automotive, agriculture, construction, and the marine industry. They are used in hydraulic systems of machinery and equipment where precise direction of pressurized fluid flow is necessary. Thanks to their design, they enable efficient space management in installations, reducing the need for additional hoses and fittings.

Elbow connections are available in 2 versions:

  • in the standard version at a 90-degree angle
  • in the 45-degree version.

BSP JIC elbow fittings

BSP JIC elbow fittings are used to change the direction of a hydraulic hose and simultaneously connect two different connection standards: BSP and JIC. Thanks to their angular design, they are particularly useful where space is limited or the hose should be routed without excessive bending.

These types of fittings are used in power hydraulic systems, agricultural, construction, industrial machinery, and mobile hydraulics. They combine the function of an adapter between BSP and JIC standards with an elbow function, which facilitates proper installation routing.

BSP JIC elbow fittings for power hydraulics

On the BSP side, the British Standard Pipe thread standard is used, while JIC connections use the UNF thread and a 37° cone seal. This combination allows for connecting components made according to different standards without the need for several separate adapters.

The elbow form of the fitting helps to route the hose at the correct angle and can limit the need for making a sharp bend with the hydraulic hose.

Where are BSP JIC elbows used?

  • in power hydraulic installations,
  • in agricultural and construction machinery,
  • in mobile hydraulics,
  • in industrial equipment,
  • in areas with limited assembly space,
  • for connecting BSP to JIC connections.

How to select a BSP JIC elbow fitting?

Selection should begin with correctly identifying both sides of the connection. You should determine the BSP thread size and the JIC connection size, then verify the sealing method and parameters of the specific variant.

  • check the BSP thread size,
  • determine the UNF thread size on the JIC side,
  • verify the 37° sealing cone on the JIC side,
  • check the sealing method on the BSP side,
  • select the correct hose routing angle,
  • compare the operating parameters of the specific fitting.

BSP and JIC - how do these connections differ?

BSP and JIC are two different hydraulic connection systems. JIC uses the UNF thread and a 37° cone where the seal is formed. In the case of BSP, the design and sealing method depend on the specific connection type. For this reason, components should not be selected solely based on a similar thread diameter.

The BSP JIC elbow fitting allows connecting both standards in one component and simultaneously changing the direction of the installation layout.

Elbow fittings for various standards

If the installation requires a different combination of threads, also check hydraulic elbow fittings available at HYDRON. Various variants allow matching the connection to the machine design and the standards used in the system.

FAQ - BSP JIC elbow fittings

What is a BSP JIC elbow fitting used for?

It enables connecting a BSP connection with JIC and changing the direction of the hydraulic hose routing.

How is a JIC connection sealed?

JIC uses 37° conical metal surfaces which, when properly tightened, create a tight connection.

Is JIC thread the same as UNF?

UNF thread is used in JIC connections, but compatibility is also determined by the proper geometry of the 37° sealing surface.

How to select the right BSP JIC fitting?

You should check both thread sizes, the sealing method, and the direction and angle of the hose routing in the installation.
