Banjo bolts for SP01 fittings DIN 7643

What are banjo bolts for SP01 fittings?

Banjo bolts for SP01 fittings are components used in BANJO (eye) type connections. Their task is to create a tight and durable connection of a hydraulic hose with a hydraulic system component by allowing the medium to flow through a hole made inside the bolt. This solution is used wherever assembly space is limited and standard straight or elbow fittings do not provide proper hose positioning. Banjo bolts work with SP01 eye fittings and copper or aluminum gaskets, creating a connection resistant to high operating pressure and vibrations occurring during machine operation. The DIN 7643 standard covers hollow BANJO-type bolts used with DIN 7642 fittings. Recommended seals are gaskets according to DIN 7603.

Where are DIN 7643 banjo bolts used?

Banjo connections are very popular in power hydraulics because they allow the hose outlet direction to be changed without twisting it during assembly. This is particularly important for hydraulic hoses operating under high pressure.

SP01 banjo bolts are used in, among others:

• agricultural machinery
• construction machinery
• mobile hydraulic systems
• forklifts
• fuel systems
• braking systems
• industrial equipment
• forestry machinery

Features of banjo bolts for SP01 fittings

Bolts are most often made of high-strength steel with anti-corrosion protection in the form of zinc plating. Inside the bolt, there are special flow channels allowing the free flow of hydraulic oil. The most important advantage of this solution is the ability to set the hose in the correct position without having to rotate the entire hydraulic hose. This reduces torsional stresses and increases hose durability.

Depending on the application, bolts may come in many thread sizes:

How to choose the right banjo bolt?

When selecting, pay attention to the thread diameter, thread pitch, hose diameter, and eye diameter of the hydraulic fitting. The operating pressure of the system and the type of seal used are also important. A common error during assembly is using a bolt with the correct thread but an inappropriate length of the working part. This can cause improper compression of the seals or restricted oil flow.

In workshop practice, it is also worth checking the condition of the seals every time a hose is replaced. Even slight damage to the sealing surface can lead to leaks.

Application of banjo bolts in power hydraulics

BANJO connections are often chosen in places with limited assembly space. Thanks to their design, they allow for compact installation of hydraulic hoses and facilitate the routing of the system. Combined with appropriately selected banjo fittings and properly made hydraulic hoses, they allow for a durable system resistant to high pressure, vibrations, and variable operating conditions.

Banjo bolts, hollow overflow

Hollow eye bolts DIN 7643. Overflow banjo bolts. Overflow banjo bolts are extremely important components used in hydraulic, fuel, and pneumatic systems. Their main task is to provide solid fastening of eye fittings while allowing free flow of the medium (e.g., hydraulic oil, fuel, or air) through the holes in the bolt. We offer a wide selection of overflow banjo bolts in various thread variants and sizes, making them easy to match to a specific application.

How does an overflow banjo bolt work?

Overflow banjo bolts are used in connections where eye fittings (e.g., Banjo type) require both stable fastening and the ability to allow the medium to flow through the system. Their operation is based on a special design: Threaded shank – allows for secure fastening in the installation socket, ensuring stability and tightness of the connection. Overflow channels – holes in the bolt shank allow the medium to flow through the fitting eye, which is crucial in hydraulic and fuel systems. Bolt head – adapted for tightening with a wrench, which facilitates assembly and disassembly.

Types of banjo bolts, overflow, metric and inch

Overflow banjo bolts come in two basic thread variants, allowing them to be used in various system standards:

  • Banjo bolts with metric thread (M): Used in hydraulic and fuel systems compliant with European standards. Typical metric thread sizes: M10 x 1,5 – popular in fuel lines and hydraulic systems. M12 x 1,5 – used in industrial and automotive installations. M14 x 1,5 – used in larger hydraulic systems. Other metric bolt sizes M16x1,5, M18x1,5, M20x1,5, M22x1,5, M26x1,5, M27x2, M30x1,5, M8x1. • Banjo bolts with inch thread (BSP): Designed for systems compliant with British and American standards. Typical inch thread sizes: 1/8” BSP – small hydraulic and fuel systems. 1/4” BSP – fuel and lubrication lines. 3/8” BSP – larger hydraulic systems 1/2” BSP – high-flow systems in hydraulic installations. Where are banjo bolts used?

Hollow eye bolts are used in many industries and applications where solid and tight fastening of hoses is required. They are used in: Hydraulic systems – for connecting pressure hoses in industrial machines and vehicles. Fuel installations – in fuel supply systems where a tight and precise connection is necessary. Lubrication lines – in engine lubrication systems and other mechanical devices. Application of overflow banjo bolts. Overflow banjo bolts are used in many industries and systems, such as: Fuel systems: Installation of fuel lines in internal combustion engines. Connections in fuel supply systems, such as fuel pumps or injectors. Hydraulic systems: Hydraulic hose connections in construction, agricultural, and industrial machinery. Installation in high-pressure systems. Braking systems: Connections in hydraulic brake systems and ABS systems. Lubrication and cooling systems: Installation of oil and coolant lines in engines and turbines.

Hollow bolts for BANJO eye fittings

Overflow bolts is a colloquial name for banjo bolts intended for banjo fittings. The bolts are hollow inside and have holes on the sides allowing for the flow of oil or other liquid. We basically distinguish 2 types of bolts: bolts with metric threads and bolts with inch threads. The bolt is selected for the hole of the banjo fitting (same division into metric and inch). Sometimes there are double banjo bolts allowing for the connection of 2 eyes at once (one eye on top of the other). To secure the connection under a banjo bolt, we can use a bonded seal (metal-rubber washer) or a regular copper washer. Execution: free-cutting steel covered with a layer of anti-corrosion zinc plating. Bolts may appear under the name: overflow bolt or fuel bolt. In Poland, banjo bolts can appear under the symbol SP01 (banjo bolt with metric thread) or SC01 (banjo bolt with inch thread)

Mounting method of banjo bolts

Installing an overflow bolt with a banjo fitting takes place in a few simple steps: Connection preparation: Make sure all components are clean and free of contaminants. Check the fit of the bolt thread to the socket and the eye fitting. Eye fitting assembly: Place the eye fitting on the overflow bolt so that the eye is between the socket and the bolt head. Tightening the bolt: Screw the bolt into the socket using an appropriate wrench. Use sealing washers (e.g., copper washers or bonded seals) on both sides of the eye to ensure tightness. Connection check: After tightening, check if the connection is tight and allows the medium to flow freely.

Hollow eye bolts

What are hollow eye bolts? Hollow bolts, also called overflow bolts, are an essential element used in hydraulic and pneumatic systems for fastening banjo eye fittings. Their specific structure allows the medium to flow through the center of the bolt, which enables effective and tight connection of hydraulic hoses in high-pressure systems. Overflow bolts stand out for their precise workmanship and resistance to high pressures, which makes them widely used in power hydraulics. Key features include: High quality of materials – made of stainless steel or carbon steel, often galvanized for corrosion protection. Precise threading – ensures problem-free assembly and tight connection with banjo eye fittings. Optimal hole diameter – allows for free flow of the medium, which is crucial in hydraulic and fuel systems. Availability in various sizes – allows for perfect matching to specific eye fittings and hose systems.

Hydraulic bolts

Why are banjo bolts called hydraulic bolts? Banjo bolts, available in the banjo bolts for SP01 fittings category, are often referred to as hydraulic bolts due to their use in power hydraulic systems. Their design and operation make them a connecting element in high-pressure installations of machines and devices using power hydraulics. Banjo bolts serve as connectors between hydraulic hoses and other system components, such as cylinders, control valves, or pumps. Their main features that make them called hydraulic bolts are: Resistance to high pressures – hydraulic systems operate in an environment where pressure can reach several hundred bars. Banjo bolts are designed to withstand such loads. Connection sealing – the design of banjo bolts allows for the use of additional seals, such as copper or bonded washers, which ensure system tightness and eliminate the risk of hydraulic oil leaks. Specific geometry adapted to hydraulic hoses – banjo bolts are designed to work perfectly with eye fittings used in hydraulic hoses, providing a secure and durable connection. Banjo bolts vs. other hydraulic connections Unlike standard bolts used in mechanics, hydraulic bolts have more precisely matched threads and contact surfaces that ensure maximum tightness and strength. Their design complies with standards used in power hydraulics, such as DIN or ISO, which allows for their wide application in industry, agriculture, and construction.
