ORFS BULKHEAD FITTINGS

Bulkhead fittings are connectors with long threads, longer than standard straight ORFS fittings. ORFS threads with flat face seal - commonly known as American threads. Bulkhead connectors are helpful if we need to space out elements or if we need to mount a connector through a metal sheet or another element. Construction: galvanized free-cutting steel. We also offer bulkhead connectors with metric, inch, and JIC (UNF) threads.

ORFS bulkhead fittings-leak-proof transitions through walls and bulkheads in power hydraulics

ORFS (O-Ring Face Seal) bulkhead fittings are specialized fasteners used in hydraulic systems to safely and tightly route pressure lines through walls, bulkheads, machine housings, and tanks. They are characterized by a structurally elongated body with an external thread along the entire length and are equipped with a bulkhead locknut, allowing for stable and rigid mounting in a panel's mounting hole. Using the American ORFS standard with a flat face seal and an O-ring guarantees the highest level of tightness, eliminating the risk of working fluid leaks under the influence of vibrations, shocks, or high pressure spikes. These fittings are commonly used in construction and agricultural machinery, municipal vehicles, and specialized equipment.

Application and technical characteristics of ORFS bulkhead fittings

ORFS bulkhead components are designed for installations requiring reliable face sealing and resistance to high operating pressures [1, 2]. They are used for flexible or rigid connection of hydraulic lines on both sides of a bulkhead wall.

  • Flat face seal with O-ring: Sealing occurs on the front surface of the fitting by pressing a rubber O-ring located in a special groove, which ensures complete leak-freeness [2].
  • American UN/UNF inch thread: The fittings have standardized inch threads according to the SAE J514 / ISO 8434-3 standard [2].
  • Stable bulkhead mounting: The set includes a wide bulkhead locknut that fixes the body in the panel hole, securing the line against shifting.
  • High pressure resistance: Fittings made of forged galvanized steel are designed to work at operating pressures ranging from 280 to 420 bar depending on size.
  • Ease of assembly and disassembly: The flat face seal system allows axial assembly and disassembly of lines without the need to push apart or bend rigid pipes.

Why choose ORFS bulkhead fittings at the HYDRON store?

ORFS bulkhead fittings supplied by HYDRON are manufactured in accordance with strict quality standards, which ensures precise machining of the O-ring groove and the accuracy of the connection threads. The galvanized steel surface protects the components from corrosion, weather conditions, and aggressive operating fluids. The use of ORFS bulkhead fittings facilitates the modular construction of machines and protects flexible hoses from abrasion against the edges of housing holes. For a comprehensive hydraulic system equipment, we encourage you to choose other products from our offer, such as flexible hydraulic hoses, matching hose ends, self-sealing test points and diagnostic test kits.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is an ORFS bulkhead fitting used for?

An ORFS bulkhead fitting is used to route a hydraulic line through a housing wall, frame, or machine bulkhead, providing rigid attachment and a completely leak-proof flat connection with an O-ring on both sides of the panel [2].

How does an ORFS seal differ from a JIC or DKOL cone seal?

The ORFS seal is implemented on a flat front surface using a rubber O-ring seated in a groove [2]. JIC and DKOL seals use metal-to-metal contact cones (or a cone with an O-ring) [5, 6]. The flat ORFS face provides higher resistance to vibration and facilitates axial disassembly.

What is included with an ORFS bulkhead fitting?

A standard bulkhead fitting set includes a threaded fitting body with an O-ring groove, a matching NBR sealing ring, and a steel bulkhead locknut used to secure the component onto the housing wall.

What working pressure can ORFS bulkhead fittings withstand?

The permissible working pressure for standard ORFS bulkhead fittings usually ranges from 280 bar for larger sizes to 420 bar for smaller thread sizes.
