Description
Straight reducing connector BB BSP 3/4" / 2"
The straight connector BB BSP 3/4" / 2" is a reducing hydraulic connector with two external BSP threads of different diameters. It allows for a direct connection of a component with a 3/4" BSP internal port to a component with a 2" BSP port. The BB design with external threads on both sides and a 60° sealing cone is intended for the construction, repair, and modernization of power hydraulic systems.
Technical parameters of the BB BSP 3/4" / 2" connector
- product type: straight reducing hydraulic connector BB,
- thread 1: external BSP 3/4",
- thread 2: external BSP 2",
- outer diameter of 3/4" BSP thread: approx. 26,1-26,4 mm,
- outer diameter of 2" BSP thread: approx. 59,2-59,6 mm,
- sealing type: 60° cone,
- connector family material: free-cutting steel,
- surface protection: zinc-plated with white passivation,
- standard for BSP connectors: BS 5200 / ISO 8434-6,
- intended use: connecting hydraulic system components with different port sizes.
Hydraulic reduction BSP 2" to 3/4"
The most important feature of this variant is the large difference between the sizes of both ports. The connector allows for a transition from BSP 2" to BSP 3/4" without using several consecutive adapters. This can simplify installation, limit the number of connections, and reduce the space needed for the reduction.
The connector can be used both during the construction of a new system and when modernizing an existing machine, when a component with a large BSP 2" port needs to be connected to a line ending with a BSP 3/4" port.
What does the BB designation mean?
In the designations used for this product group, BB specifies a connector with two external ports. In this case, there is a BSP 3/4" on one side and a BSP 2" on the other. The mating component should have a correctly selected internal port and a compatible sealing surface.
Do not confuse the BB connector with AA or AB components. Externally they may look similar, but the way the ports terminate and the mating components are different.
BSP 60° cone – how is a leak-proof connection created?
BSP hydraulic connectors of this family use a 60° sealing cone. The tightness of the actual connection is achieved on the mating conical surfaces, so the mere fact of nominal thread size compatibility is not sufficient for correct selection.
Before assembly, check the geometry of the mating component. Using a port with a different sealing method can lead to leakage even if the threads can be screwed together.
BSP 3/4" and BSP 2" – do not select the thread by the inch designation
One of the common mistakes is interpreting the 3/4" or 2" designation as the actual outer diameter of the thread. These are nominal sizes. The external BSP 3/4" thread is about 26,1-26,4 mm in diameter, while the BSP 2" is about 59,2-59,6 mm.
When identifying an old component, it is best to measure the thread diameter with a caliper and additionally check its pitch. This reduces the risk of confusing BSP with BSPT, NPT, or another thread system.
Impact of large reduction on oil flow
Transitioning from a BSP 2" port to a BSP 3/4" port means a significant reduction in the cross-section of the connection. For this reason, the required oil flow should be considered when selecting, not just the mechanical possibility of screwing the two components together.
A cross-section that is too small relative to the flow required by the system can cause an increase in oil velocity, greater pressure losses, and additional heating of the medium. In high-flow installations, the justification for such a large reduction should be evaluated based on the parameters of the entire system.
Where are reducing BSP connectors used?
BB reducing connectors are used in agricultural, construction, and forestry machinery, hydraulic power units, industrial installations, and during service work. They allow connecting a pump, valve, tank, hose, or other component when the ports on both sides of the installation have different sizes.
Other configurations can be selected in the category straight inch BSP connectors, which includes both equal and reducing variants.
How to correctly select the BB BSP 3/4" / 2" connector?
Before purchasing, confirm both thread sizes, their type, sealing method, and the required operating parameters of the system. In this variant, two external ports are needed: BSP 3/4" and BSP 2" with a compatible sealing system.
When building a complete system, it is also worth checking the hose diameter, required flow, medium temperature, and the allowable pressure of each used component. The parameters of the entire system are always limited by the component with the lowest allowable value.
Frequently Asked Questions
What threads does this connector have?
The connector has two external BSP threads: 3/4" on one side and 2" on the other.
Is this a reducing connector?
Yes. It connects two different BSP port sizes and can serve as a reduction from 2" to 3/4" or vice versa.
What angle does the sealing cone have?
The family of BB BSP hydraulic connectors uses a 60° sealing cone.
What is the diameter of the BSP 2" thread?
The outer diameter of the BSP 2" thread is approximately 59,2-59,6 mm. The 2" designation is a nominal size and does not directly correspond to the diameter measured with a caliper.
Can such a large reduction affect the flow?
Yes. Transitioning from BSP 2" to BSP 3/4" significantly reduces the flow cross-section, so for higher system capacities, potential pressure losses should be considered.
