Description

Straight reduction connector MM BSP 1/2" / 3/4" stainless steel 1.4571

Straight connector MM BSP 1/2" / 3/4" made of stainless steel is a hydraulic reduction fitting equipped with two external BSP threads. On one side there is a connection 1/2" BSP, on the other 3/4" BSP. This configuration allows you to directly connect two system components with different connection sizes.

The body is made of stainless steel 1.4571, making this variant primarily intended for installations where, in addition to hydraulic parameters, increased material resistance to corrosion is important. The connector has sealing surfaces with a 60° cone, and its permissible working pressure is 250 bar.

Technical parameters of the MM BSP 1/2" / 3/4" connector

  • product type: straight hydraulic connector MM,
  • type: reduction connector,
  • thread 1: external BSP 1/2",
  • thread 2: external BSP 3/4",
  • 1/2" BSP thread diameter: 20.5-20.9 mm external / 18.6-19.0 mm internal,
  • 3/4" BSP thread diameter: 26.1-26.4 mm external / 24.1-24.5 mm internal,
  • sealing cone angle: 60°,
  • working pressure: 250 bar,
  • working temperature: from -20°C to +120°C,
  • material: stainless steel 1.4571,
  • BSP connection manufacturing standard: BS5200 / ISO 8434-6,
  • medium recommended for the product: hydraulic oil,
  • alternative designation: XGR 1/2"-3/4",
  • designation according to Rastelli-Raccordi: 34.67.12.08,
  • alternative symbol: 1B-08-12.

Reduction from BSP 1/2" to BSP 3/4"

Both sides of the connector have external BSP threads, but in different sizes. The design thus allows for a straight transition between a 1/2" and 3/4" connection without building a reduction from several separate adapters.

Such a solution is useful when building new systems, but also when modernizing existing hydraulics. If the valve, hose, or other component being replaced has a larger connection than the element already in the installation, a properly selected reduction connector allows the connection to be made in a single body.

Stainless steel 1.4571 for demanding installations

The most important feature of this version is that it is made of stainless steel 1.4571. This material distinguishes it from standard hydraulic connectors produced from free-cutting steel and surface-protected with zinc plating.

The choice of a stainless variant is particularly important in installations operating in environments where hydraulic components may be exposed to moisture and factors promoting corrosion. For this reason, stainless connectors are used in both machines and specialized industrial installations.

60° sealing cone

The connector uses a 60° cone sealing system. When selecting a mating element, one should therefore verify not only the BSP designation and thread diameter but also the construction of the surface responsible for the tightness of the connection.

This is particularly important in pressure hydraulics. Two elements may have threads with matching dimensions but differ in the design of the sealing surface. Therefore, correct selection should cover the entire connection standard, not just the nominal thread size.

How to recognize BSP 1/2" and BSP 3/4"?

Inch designations of BSP threads are nominal values. This does not mean that a 1/2" BSP thread will have an actual diameter of 12.7 mm, and a 3/4" BSP exactly 19.05 mm.

The data sheet for this product specifies the following dimension ranges:

  • BSP 1/2" – about 20.5-20.9 mm external diameter,
  • BSP 3/4" – about 26.1-26.4 mm external diameter.

Measuring with a caliper therefore allows for a preliminary identification of the connection size. For final identification, the thread pitch and standard as well as the sealing geometry must additionally be taken into account.

Working pressure 250 bar

The permissible working pressure of the connector is 250 bar. This parameter should be taken into account when designing a complete installation and selecting other components.

In a hydraulic system, the permissible pressure is not determined by a single connector alone. The parameters of crimped hydraulic hoses, fittings, valves, quick couplers, and other elements operating under pressure are also important.

Temperature range from -20°C to +120°C

The product data sheet specifies the operating temperature at the level of from -20°C to +120°C. Hydraulic oil is indicated as the medium for the connector.

In an actual installation, the temperature range should be considered for the entire system. Limitations may include the hose used, the material of the seals, or the parameters of the working medium.

Where are stainless BSP connectors used?

The combination of the reduction design with stainless steel makes this model particularly interesting for installations where a transition between BSP 1/2" and BSP 3/4" is required, and at the same time, the resistance of the material to environmental conditions is important.

  • hydraulic power systems,
  • industrial machinery,
  • equipment operating in environments with high humidity,
  • agricultural and orchard machinery,
  • forestry machinery,
  • construction equipment,
  • specialized industrial installations,
  • system modernizations requiring a BSP 1/2" to BSP 3/4" transition.

Stainless steel or standard steel connector?

The choice should depend on the operating conditions of the installation. A standard steel connector may be suitable for many typical hydraulic systems. The version made of stainless steel 1.4571 is intended for applications where material properties and corrosion resistance are of greater importance.

It should not be assumed that the use of stainless steel automatically means a higher permissible pressure. For the described MM 1/2" / 3/4" connector, the data sheet specifies the working pressure at 250 bar.

How to select this connector for the system?

Before ordering, check both connections present in the installation. For this model, mating elements corresponding to the following configuration are required:

  • first side: BSP 1/2",
  • second side: BSP 3/4",
  • both connector threads: external,
  • sealing system: 60° cone,
  • required working pressure: not exceeding the parameters of the complete system.

If you are building a new hydraulic hose for a specific machine, you can use the HYDRON hydraulic hose configuratorto select the length and appropriate hose ends.

Hydraulic connectors in the HYDRON range

HYDRON offers a wide selection of hydraulic connectors designed for the construction, repair, and modernization of hydraulic power systems. The range includes various connection configurations and thread standards used in machinery and industrial installations.

When routing hoses in places exposed to friction and contact with the machine structure, it is also worth using spiral guards for hydraulic hoses, which provide additional mechanical protection for the hose.

Frequently Asked Questions

What threads does the MM BSP 1/2" / 3/4" connector have?

The connector has two external BSP threads: 1/2" on one side and 3/4" on the other.

Is this a reduction connector?

Yes. Different thread sizes allow for a transition between BSP 1/2" and BSP 3/4" connections.

What material is the connector made of?

The data sheet specifies stainless steel 1.4571. In the product description, the material is also specified as 316L stainless steel.

What is the working pressure?

The permissible working pressure given for the product is 250 bar.

What sealing system is used?

The connector has a 60° sealing cone.

What is the working temperature?

The specified range is from -20°C to +120°C.

Does BSP 3/4" have a diameter of 19.05 mm?

No. This is a nominal designation. For a 3/4" BSP external thread, the data sheet gives a range of about 26.1-26.4 mm.

Can this connector be used instead of the galvanized steel version?

The decision should take into account the material of the mating elements, the operating environment, the medium, and the parameters of the entire installation. The stainless version is particularly useful where increased material resistance to corrosion is required.
