Description
Straight M/M connector BSP 3/4" / BSPT 3/4" stainless steel 1.4571 200 bar
Straight M/M connector BSP 3/4" / BSPT 3/4" is a stainless steel hydraulic adapter connecting two ports of the same nominal size 3/4", but with different thread geometry. On one side there is a male BSP 3/4" thread, and on the other male BSPT 3/4" tapered thread.
The product does not reduce the connection diameter. Its task is to transition between BSP and tapered BSPT threads. The body is made of stainless steel 1.4571. The maximum working pressure specified for this variant is 200 bar, and the temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C.
Technical parameters of the BSP 3/4" / BSPT 3/4" connector
- product type: straight hydraulic M/M connector,
- type: BSP / BSPT adapter,
- thread 1: male BSP 3/4",
- thread 2: male BSPT 3/4" tapered,
- nominal size of both connections: 3/4",
- BSP 3/4" thread dimension given on the datasheet: 26.1-26.4 mm external / 24.1-24.5 mm internal,
- maximum working pressure: 200 bar,
- working temperature: from -20°C to +120°C,
- material: stainless steel 1.4571,
- purpose: as a connector for joining hydraulic system components.
BSP 3/4" / BSPT 3/4" - this is not a diameter reduction
Both sides of the connector have a nominal size of 3/4". Thus, the product is not used to change the connection diameter, but to transition between two different thread designs.
In this product, the BSP side is a 3/4" port, while the other side is made as BSPT 3/4", which is a tapered thread. This difference is crucial when selecting the connector for a specific port.
What is the difference between BSP and BSPT?
In the designation of this product, BSP and BSPT have the same nominal size of 3/4", but they differ in the geometry of the threaded part. The BSP side is a cylindrical design, while BSPT has a tapered thread.
In a tapered thread, the diameter changes along the length of the threaded part. Therefore, two 3/4" connections should not automatically be treated as identical just because they have the same inch designation.
What is a BSP to BSPT adapter used for?
The connector allows connecting a component using a BSP 3/4" port with an element requiring a BSPT 3/4" thread. It can be useful when modernizing systems, replacing a valve, manifold, or another component using a different pipe thread variant.
You can find more items with tapered threads in the category straight BSPT fittings.
How to identify a BSP 3/4" thread?
For the BSP 3/4" side, the product datasheet gives a diameter of approximately 26.1-26.4 mm. The 3/4" designation is a nominal value, so direct conversion of 3/4 inch to millimeters does not give the actual thread diameter.
A caliper measurement around 26.3 mm is a good starting point for identification. However, for a certain selection, the pitch and thread geometry should also be checked.
How to identify a BSPT 3/4" thread?
The most important feature of the BSPT side is the tapered thread design. Its diameter changes along the threaded part, so a measurement taken in one place should not be the only basis for identification.
When choosing a component for an existing system, it is worth checking the thread in several places and confirming its pitch. This helps reduce the risk of confusing a tapered thread with a cylindrical one.
Why should BSP and BSPT not be selected based on diameter alone?
Two components can nominally be 3/4" and yet differ in thread design and sealing method. Thus, a similar external dimension alone does not confirm full compatibility.
Especially when repairing an older machine, it should be determined whether the mating port actually requires a cylindrical or a tapered thread.
Stainless steel 1.4571
The adapter body is made of stainless steel 1.4571. This is an important feature in systems where the use of stainless steel fasteners is required.
A full group of such products can be found in the category stainless steel hydraulic fittings.
BSP/BSPT or a regular BSP 3/4" connector?
If both elements of the system require a regular BSP 3/4" connection, there is no need to use a BSP/BSPT adapter. In such a case, a connector with the same design on both sides should be selected.
The HYDRON offer includes straight BSP 3/4" connector made of stainless steel 1.4571. The BSP/BSPT variant should be chosen when a tapered thread is actually required on one side of the system.
Working pressure up to 200 bar
The maximum working pressure specified for this product is 200 bar. This value should be compared with the maximum pressure occurring in the actual system.
The allowable pressure of a complete installation is always limited by the component with the lowest rating. Therefore, hoses, valves, fittings, quick couplers, and other adapters should also be checked.
Working temperature from -20°C to +120°C
The product datasheet specifies a working temperature range from -20°C to +120°C. When determining the allowable temperature of the entire system, the limitations of hoses, seals, valves, and other components must also be taken into account.
Do not assume the same sealing method for both sides
When transitioning between BSP and BSPT, the sealing method should be determined based on the design of both mating ports. The same installation rules should not be automatically applied to the cylindrical and tapered sides.
Before installation, the port geometry, thread type, and intended sealing method must be verified.
Application of the stainless steel BSP / BSPT 3/4" connector
The adapter can be used during the construction of new systems and the modernization of installations where different 3/4" thread designs occur.
- power hydraulic systems,
- hydraulic power units,
- agricultural and orchard machinery,
- forestry machinery,
- construction machinery,
- industrial equipment,
- modernization of systems with different connection types,
- installations requiring stainless steel fasteners.
How to choose a BSP 3/4" / BSPT 3/4" connector?
Before ordering, check:
- whether a male BSP 3/4" thread is needed on one side,
- whether a male BSPT 3/4" thread is required on the other side,
- whether the port on the BSPT side actually requires a tapered thread,
- the pitch of both threads,
- the sealing method on both sides,
- whether the maximum pressure of 200 bar is suitable for the system,
- whether the required material is stainless steel 1.4571.
If a new connector is selected based on an element removed from a machine, it is best to use a caliper and a thread gauge. On the BSPT side, it is also worth confirming the taper of the threaded part.
Selection of a complete hydraulic hose
The thread type is only one of the parameters of a complete hose. The DN diameter, hose construction, required pressure, length, and proper ends must also be selected.
Ready-made solutions can be found in the category crimped hydraulic hoses, and you can prepare a custom hose in the HYDRON hydraulic hose configurator.
Frequently asked questions
Are BSP 3/4" and BSPT 3/4" the same thread?
No. They have the same nominal size of 3/4", but in this product, BSP is the cylindrical side, while BSPT is the tapered thread.
Is this fitting a reducer?
It is not a diameter reduction. Both sides have a nominal size of 3/4", and the connector transitions between BSP and BSPT.
What is the maximum working pressure?
The maximum working pressure specified for this product is 200 bar.
What material is the connector made of?
The body of the connector is made of stainless steel 1.4571.
How to check if I need BSPT 3/4"?
It must be determined if the mating port requires a tapered thread. In the case of BSPT, the diameter of the threaded part changes along its length.
