Description
BB BSP 1.1/4" / 2" 100 bar straight reducing fitting
BB BSP 1.1/4" / 2" straight fitting is a steel hydraulic connector designed for the direct connection of two elements with different sizes of BSP connections. On one side, there is an external BSP 1.1/4" thread, on the other, a larger external BSP 2" thread. The reducing design allows transitioning between two diameters in a single body, without the use of several consecutive adapters.
The fitting features a 60° sealing cone and is designed for use in power hydraulics systems. The body is made of free-cutting steel, and the surface is protected with zinc plating with white passivation. The permissible working pressure for this model is 100 bar, therefore this parameter must strictly be taken into account when selecting it for a specific installation.

BSP 1.1/4" to BSP 2" reducer
The different diameters of both ends make it a BSP 1.1/4" / 2" reducing fitting. It allows for directly connecting an element featuring a BSP 1.1/4" connection with a larger BSP 2" connection. Both sides of the fitting are equipped with external threads.
This solution is particularly practical during the construction, modernization, and repair of installations containing components with large but different connection diameters. Instead of creating a transition from several elements, you can use a single properly selected reducing nipple.
Other sizes and configurations can be found in the category of BSP inch straight fittings.
Large BSP 1.1/4" and 2" hydraulic connections
The BSP 1.1/4" and BSP 2" sizes belong to the larger connections used in hydraulic systems. They are primarily found where the design of the system requires a large connection cross-section and a correspondingly high medium flow.
However, a larger thread size does not automatically mean a higher permissible pressure. In the case of the presented fitting, the working pressure is 100 bar. This is a key parameter that should be checked before assembly.
How to identify a BSP 1.1/4" thread?
The BSP 1.1/4" designation is a nominal value and does not directly correspond to the actual thread diameter. According to the parameters of this product, the external diameter of the BSP 1.1/4" thread is approximately in the range of 41,5-41,9 mm.
If measuring with a caliper yields a result around 41,7 mm, it may indicate a BSP 1.1/4" thread. During identification, however, it is also worth checking the thread pitch and the design of the sealing surface.
How to identify a BSP 2" thread?
The other side of the fitting has a significantly larger external BSP 2" thread. According to the product parameters, its external diameter is about 59,2-59,6 mm.
The 2" designation is also nominal in nature. Therefore, one should not expect the thread measurement to show exactly 50,8 mm. In BSP pipe threads, nominal sizes do not directly correspond to the actual external diameter.
Why does BSP 2" not have a diameter of 50,8 mm?
This is a frequent source of mistakes during independent identification of hydraulic connectors. A direct conversion of 2 inches yields 50,8 mm, but this is not the external diameter of a BSP 2" thread.
In the presented fitting, the actual external diameter of the BSP 2" thread is approximately 59,2-59,6 mm. Similarly, the BSP 1.1/4" has about 41,5-41,9 mm. BSP designations should thus be treated as nominal designations for pipe thread sizes.
60° sealing cone
The fitting uses a 60° sealing cone. When selecting interacting components, you should verify not only the nominal thread size but also the design of the sealing surface.
In hydraulics, the ability to screw two elements together does not mean they form a proper and leak-tight connection. Conical surfaces must be compatible, especially when the installation operates under pressure.
Working pressure of 100 bar
The maximum working pressure specified for this fitting is 100 bar. This is particularly important information, because with such large connections, one should not assume pressure values based on the parameters of smaller BSP fittings.
Before assembly, you must compare the permissible pressure with the actual installation parameters. If the system operates at a pressure higher than 100 bar, a component with the appropriate pressure rating must be used.
Pressure parameters should also be checked for crimped hydraulic hoses, terminals, quick couplings, valves, and other installation components.
Why doesn't a larger thread mean greater pressure?
Thread size and maximum working pressure are separate parameters. A larger connection allows for a larger flow cross-section, but it does not automatically mean that a specific element can operate at a higher pressure.
For this fitting, the manufacturer specifies a value of 100 bar. When comparing with smaller BSP elements, you can notice that some of them have a significantly higher permissible working pressure. This is exactly why each size must be checked individually.
Free-cutting steel and zinc plating with white passivation
The body of the fitting is made of free-cutting steel. The surface is protected with zinc plating with white passivation, a widely used solution in fasteners for standard power hydraulics systems.
The type of material should be matched to the working environment. In installations exposed to particularly aggressive corrosive conditions or requiring specific material properties, it may be necessary to use a fitting made of a different material grade, e.g., stainless steel.
Temperature range from -20°C to +120°C
For the BB BSP 1.1/4" / 2" fitting, the specified working temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C. Hydraulic oil is recommended as the working medium.
However, the permissible temperature of the entire system should not be determined solely based on the fitting's parameters. You also need to check hoses, seals, valves, and other components, because each of them may have its own temperature limitations.
Application of the BSP 1.1/4" / 2" fitting
The fitting can be applied wherever a simple transition between large BSP 1.1/4" and BSP 2" connections is necessary. It can be used both in the construction of new installations and during repairs and modernization of existing systems.
- power hydraulics systems,
- agricultural machinery,
- orchard machinery,
- forestry machinery,
- construction machinery,
- industrial equipment,
- oil installations,
- repairs of hydraulic systems,
- modernization of machinery and equipment,
- installations requiring reduction of large BSP connections.
One reducer instead of several adapters
A direct transition from BSP 1.1/4" to BSP 2" allows to reduce the number of elements required to make a connection. This is crucial, especially with such large diameters, because each additional adapter increases the length of the entire assembly.
Fewer connections also mean fewer points requiring proper assembly and leak testing. In a limited mounting space, a single reducing nipple can be much more practical than a set of several separate adapters.
How to select a BSP 1.1/4" / 2" fitting?
Before ordering, check both installation elements that are to be connected. For this model, the most important parameters are:
- first side: external BSP 1.1/4",
- second side: external BSP 2",
- external diameter of BSP 1.1/4": approx. 41,5-41,9 mm,
- external diameter of BSP 2": approx. 59,2-59,6 mm,
- sealing system: 60° cone,
- working pressure: maximum 100 bar,
- working temperature: from -20°C to +120°C,
- material: galvanized free-cutting steel.
If the fitting is selected based on a component removed from an older machine, it is worth performing a precise measurement of both threads with a caliper and checking their pitch. This allows to limit the risk of confusing BSP with other inch connection standards.
Replacement designations for the fitting
When searching for a spare part, the designations found in the catalogs of various manufacturers may be useful. For this configuration, the HYDRON product card specifies:
- Rastelli-Raccordi: 34.67.32.20,
- Vitillo: ARGG3224,
- type designation: 1B-24-32,
- alternative designation: XGR 1 1/4"-2".
When replacing a component, however, always compare the full technical parameters, and not just the catalog symbol.
Selection of a hose for large hydraulic connections
When manufacturing a complete hose assembly, one must take into account not only the thread size. Also important are the inner diameter of the hose, the required flow, working pressure, temperature, and the type of fittings.
To determine the hose configuration, you can use the HYDRON hydraulic hose configurator, which facilitates the selection of a hose and the appropriate fittings for a specific machine or installation.
