Description
Straight reduction connector male/male BSP 1/8" / 1/2" 350 bar
Straight connector male/male BSP 1/8" / 1/2" is a steel hydraulic fitting with two external BSP threads of different sizes. It is used to perform a straight transition between a connection 1/8" BSP and 1/2" BSP in hydraulic systems, machines, and industrial installations.
The model features a 60° sealing cone and is designed to work with appropriately selected elements using the same connection system. The maximum working pressure is 350 bar, and the body is made of free-cutting steel protected by white zinc passivation.

BSP 1/8" to BSP 1/2" reduction
The most important function of this connector is to connect two elements with different connection sizes. On one side, there is an external 1/8" BSP thread, and on the other an external 1/2" BSP thread.
This configuration allows for reduction without the need for several consecutive adapters. It is a practical solution during installation modernization, replacement of a valve, manifold, hose, or another component with a different connection size.
BSP threads with 60° sealing cone
The connector works in the BSP system with a 60° sealing cone. When selecting a mating element, you should check not only the thread size but also the design of the sealing surface.
The mere fact that two threads can be screwed together does not mean a correct hydraulic connection. In pressure systems, both the thread standard and the geometry of the cone responsible for tightness are important.
How to recognize 1/8" and 1/2" BSP threads?
BSP inch markings do not correspond directly to the actual diameter measured with a caliper. Therefore, when identifying the connection, do not convert the 1/8" or 1/2" values directly into millimeters.
For this product, the HYDRON data sheet gives approximate values:
- BSP 1/8" – external diameter approx. 9.3-9.7 mm,
- BSP 1/2" – external diameter approx. 20.5-20.9 mm.
Caliper measurement is therefore a good starting point, but before purchasing, it is also worth checking the thread pitch and the sealing system.
Working pressure up to 350 bar
The connector is designed to work at pressures up to 350 bar. This allows it to be used in many professional power hydraulics installations where high working pressures occur.
However, when designing an installation, remember that the allowable pressure of the entire system is always limited by its weakest component. It is therefore also worth checking the parameters of hydraulic hoses, fittings, valves, and other elements of the installation.
Free-cutting steel and zinc protection
The body is made of free-cutting steel, commonly used for the production of precision fasteners. The surface is protected by white zinc passivation, which limits the impact of corrosion on the steel element.
The working temperature range specified for the product is from -20°C to +120°C. The connector is designed to work with hydraulic oil, among others.
Application of the male/male BSP 1/8" / 1/2" connector
The reduction connector is used wherever two hydraulic components have different BSP connection sizes. It can be used in the construction of new installations as well as in repairs and reconstruction of existing systems.
- power hydraulics,
- agricultural machinery,
- orchard machinery,
- forestry machinery,
- construction machinery,
- industrial equipment,
- hydraulic systems of mobile machines,
- workshop stations,
- modernization and repair of hydraulic installations.
One connector instead of several adapters
The use of a single reduction body allows limiting the number of additional adapters between installation elements. This has practical significance, as every additional connection is another assembly site and a potential point requiring proper sealing.
Direct 1/8" BSP to 1/2" BSP reduction therefore allows for simplifying the system design and maintaining a more compact layout.
BSP is not the same as NPT
When selecting hydraulic components, thread standards must be distinguished. BSP and NPT may look similar, but they have different geometries and should not be treated as interchangeable solutions.
In the case of this connector, both connections are made in the BSPstandard. If the mating element has an NPT or NPTF thread, an appropriate adapter designed specifically for such a combination should be used.
How to choose a connector for the installation?
Before purchasing, it is worth checking several basic parameters. This avoids situations where the thread diameter fits, but the sealing system is not compatible.
- thread type: BSP,
- thread on the first side: 1/8" external,
- thread on the second side: 1/2" external,
- sealing cone: 60°,
- maximum installation working pressure,
- medium temperature,
- type of mating connections.
BSP hydraulic connectors in the HYDRON offer
HYDRON offers hydraulic connectors in many standards and configurations. The offer includes BSP, BSPT, JIC/UNF, ORFS, NPT, and metric connectors used in power hydraulics.
If you are building a complete hose for a machine, you can also use the hydraulic hose configurator. It allows you to select the length and ends of the hose suitable for a specific installation.
To protect hoses from abrasion, impacts, and contact with machine parts, it is also worth using spiral guards for hydraulic hoses.
Frequently Asked Questions
What threads does this connector have?
On one side there is an external 1/8" BSP thread, and on the other an external 1/2" BSP thread.
Is this a reduction connector?
Yes. The different sizes of both threads enable reduction between 1/8" BSP and 1/2" BSP connections.
What working pressure can the connector withstand?
The maximum working pressure specified for the product is 350 bar.
What is the sealing cone angle?
The connector has a 60° sealing cone.
What material is the body made of?
The body is made of free-cutting steel protected by white zinc passivation.
What is the working temperature range?
The working temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C.
Does the designation BSP 1/2" mean a diameter of 12.7 mm?
No. The BSP inch size is a nominal designation. For a 1/2" BSP thread, the product data sheet gives an external diameter of approximately 20.5-20.9 mm.
Can the connector be connected to an NPT thread?
BSP should not be connected to NPT as interchangeable standards. In such a case, an appropriately selected BSP/NPT adapter must be used.
