Description

Straight connector BB BSP 1/4" stainless steel 1.4571 350 bar

Straight connector BB BSP 1/4" is a stainless steel hydraulic nipple equipped with two identical male BSP 1/4" threads. It is used for directly connecting two compatible installation components without changing the nominal connection size. Since BSP 1/4" is used on both sides, the product is a straight connector, not a reduction.

The body is made of 1.4571 stainless steel. The connector features a 60° sealing cone and is designed to work with hydraulic oil. The maximum working pressure is 350 bar, and the permissible temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C.

Technical parameters of the BSP 1/4" connector

  • product type: straight hydraulic connector BB,
  • type: straight connector / hydraulic nipple,
  • thread 1: male BSP 1/4",
  • thread 2: male BSP 1/4",
  • BSP 1/4" thread dimension: 12.9-13.1 mm external / 11.4-11.9 mm internal,
  • sealing cone: 60°,
  • maximum working pressure: 350 bar,
  • working temperature: from -20°C to +120°C,
  • material: stainless steel 1.4571,
  • manufacturing standard: BS5200 / ISO 8434-6,
  • medium: hydraulic oil,
  • purpose: connecting hydraulic installation components,
  • marking according to Rastelli-Raccordi: 34.69.04.04,
  • symbol: 1B-04,
  • alternative marking: XG 1/4".

Stainless steel BSP 1/4" nipple with two male threads

Marking BB denotes a connector having two male threads. In this variant, both are BSP 1/4" size, so the component makes a straight axial connection without diameter reduction.

The connector can work with appropriately selected components having internal BSP 1/4" threads. Other sizes and variants can be found in the category straight stainless steel connectors.

How to identify a BSP 1/4" thread?

The male BSP 1/4" thread has an actual diameter of approximately 12.9-13.1 mm. The 1/4" marking is a nominal value, so one should not expect a diameter of 6.35 mm resulting from a simple inch conversion.

If a caliper measurement yields a result around 13 mm, it is an important clue during BSP 1/4" identification. For certain selection, however, the thread pitch and the design of the sealing surface should also be checked.

60° sealing cone

The connector has a 60° sealing cone. When choosing a mating component, you must verify not only the BSP 1/4" size but also the geometry of the surfaces responsible for the connection's tightness.

The mere possibility of mechanically screwing two elements together does not mean full compatibility. The thread and sealing method should belong to the appropriate connection system.

Stainless steel 1.4571

The body of the connector is made of 1.4571 stainless steel. This is the basic difference compared to the standard steel version protected with a zinc coating.

The stainless variant should be used where the material requirements of the installation or environmental conditions favor the use of stainless steel components. The material should always be selected considering the medium and other parts of the system.

Working pressure up to 350 bar

The maximum working pressure specified for this connector is 350 bar. This is a parameter of the specific BSP 1/4" variant and this value should not be automatically transferred to other connector sizes.

The permissible pressure of the entire system is limited by the component with the lowest rating. Therefore, hoses, fittings, valves, quick couplers, and other installation components should also be checked.

Ready-made solutions can be found in the category crimped hydraulic hoses.

BSP 1/4" and flow in the system

BSP 1/4" is one of the smaller sizes of hydraulic connections. When using it, the required oil flow and hose diameter should be taken into account.

The fact that the connector withstands 350 bar does not automatically mean it will be suitable for any flow. Pressure and flow are separate parameters that should be evaluated in the context of the entire system.

Working temperature from -20°C to +120°C

The product sheet specifies the working temperature range from -20°C to +120°C. As the medium, hydraulic oilis indicated.

The permissible temperature range of the complete installation may, however, be limited by the hoses, seals, valves, or other components used.

Standard BS5200 / ISO 8434-6

The connector is assigned to the standard BS5200 / ISO 8434-6. This information helps with identifying the connection system and selecting compatible components.

When replacing an old nipple, it is worth comparing the thread, its diameter, pitch, cone design, material, and permissible working pressure.

Application of the stainless BSP 1/4" connector

The connector is used to make straight connections between compatible hydraulic system components with BSP 1/4" threads. It can be used when building new systems and for repairing and modernizing existing machines.

  • power hydraulics systems,
  • hydraulic power packs,
  • agricultural and orchard machinery,
  • forestry machinery,
  • construction machinery,
  • industrial equipment,
  • installations requiring stainless steel fasteners,
  • service and modernization of hydraulic systems.

Catalog designations BSP 1/4"

When identifying an equivalent, the markings provided on the product sheet may be helpful:

  • Rastelli-Raccordi: 34.69.04.04,
  • symbol: 1B-04,
  • alternative designation: XG 1/4".

Before using a replacement, full technical parameters should be compared. The catalog symbol alone should not replace checking the thread, material, pressure, and sealing method.

How to choose a BSP 1/4" connector without mistake?

Before ordering, it is worth checking:

  • whether two male threads are needed,
  • whether both connections are BSP 1/4" size,
  • whether the external diameter of the thread is approximately 12.9-13.1 mm,
  • thread pitch,
  • compliance of the 60° sealing cone,
  • maximum required working pressure,
  • whether the required material is 1.4571 stainless steel.

If a part is selected based on a connector removed from a machine, it is best to perform a measurement with a caliper and thread gauge instead of relying solely on visual comparison.

Sealing the G1/4" connection under the hexagon

If the port design provides for face sealing under the hexagon, a properly selected bonded seal can be used. Available in the HYDRON offer is a bonded seal G1/4" 13.74 × 20.57 × 2.03 mm.

However, such a seal should not be used automatically in every BSP connection. The port design must be adapted to work with a sealing washer.

Selection of a complete hydraulic hose

Thread size is only one of the parameters of a complete hose. You should also select the DN diameter, hose construction, required pressure, length, and appropriate ends.

You can prepare a custom hose in the HYDRON hydraulic hose configurator.

Frequently Asked Questions

What threads does the BSP 1/4" connector have?

The connector has two identical BSP 1/4" male threads, therefore it is a straight connector, not a reducing one.

What is the maximum working pressure?

The maximum working pressure specified for this variant is 350 bar.

What material is the connector made of?

The connector body is made of 1.4571 stainless steel.

How to identify a BSP 1/4" thread?

The male BSP 1/4" thread is approximately 12.9-13.1 mm in diameter. For certain identification, the thread pitch should also be checked.

Does the connector have a sealing cone?

Yes. The connector has a 60° sealing cone, so the mating component should have a compatible connection geometry.
