Description

Straight reducing adapter MM BSP 1/2" / 5/8" 315 bar

Straight adapter MM BSP 1/2" / 5/8" is a steel hydraulic connector equipped with two different male BSP threads. On one side there is a BSP 1/2" connection, and on the other a larger BSP 5/8". The reducing design allows for a direct transition between these sizes using a single component.

The adapter belongs to the group of BSP connections with a 60° sealing cone. The body is made of free-cutting steel protected by zinc plating with white passivation. The maximum working pressure is 315 bar, and the allowable temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C.

Reduction BSP 1/2" to BSP 5/8"

The adapter allows for a direct connection of an element equipped with a female BSP 1/2" thread with a component having a larger female BSP 5/8" connection. Both threads on the reduction are male.

The difference in diameters is not large, but these are two distinct thread sizes. Using a single reduction allows you to avoid building a connection from several successive adapters.

Other size combinations are available in the category BSP straight and reducing adapters.

How to recognize a 1/2" BSP thread?

A male BSP 1/2" thread has a diameter of approximately 20,5-20,9 mm. The 1/2" designation is a nominal value, so the actual diameter of the thread is not 12,7 mm.

A measurement with a caliper around 20,7 mm is an important clue in identifying BSP 1/2". For a reliable selection, it is also worth checking the thread pitch and the design of the sealing surface.

How to recognize a 5/8" BSP thread?

The other side of the adapter has a male BSP 5/8" thread with a diameter of approximately 22,6-22,9 mm. This size is encountered less frequently than BSP 1/2" or BSP 3/4", so it is easy to mistake it during part selection based on appearance alone.

If the caliper indicates approximately 22,7 mm, it may suggest BSP 5/8". To confirm, the thread pitch should additionally be checked.

BSP 1/2" and BSP 5/8" small difference, two different threads

The external diameter of BSP 1/2" is approximately 20,5-20,9 mm, while BSP 5/8" is approximately 22,6-22,9 mm. The difference is therefore only a few millimeters.

However, these sizes should not be used interchangeably. Forced tightening of the wrong thread can lead to connection damage and leakage problems.

60° sealing cone

BSP adapters from this group have a standard 60° sealing cone. When selecting a mating element, you should therefore check both the thread and the geometry of the surface responsible for sealing.

The mere possibility of mechanically screwing two parts together does not confirm their full compatibility. A correct connection requires consistency in thread and sealing method.

Working pressure 315 bar

The maximum working pressure of the presented reduction is 315 bar. This parameter should be compared with the actual operating pressure and the maximum pressure occurring in the installation.

The allowable pressure of the entire system is determined by the component with the lowest parameters. In addition to the adapter, you should therefore check the hoses, fittings, valves, quick couplers, and other fittings.

If you are completing an entire connection, also check crimped hydraulic hoses.

Reduction 5/8" to 1/2" and flow

Changing from BSP 5/8" to BSP 1/2" results in a reduction of the connection cross-section. When selecting a reduction, you should therefore consider not only the possibility of connecting both threads, but also the required flow and hose diameter.

In installations with higher flow, a cross-section that is too small can cause additional pressure losses. The reduction should therefore be selected in relation to the parameters of the entire hydraulic system.

Free-cutting steel and zinc plating with white passivation

The body of the adapter is made of free-cutting steel. The surface is protected by zinc plating with white passivation, used in steel fasteners intended for standard power hydraulic installations.

The type of material and surface protection should always be considered when selecting a component for specific operating conditions.

Operating temperature from -20°C to +120°C

The allowable operating temperature range of the product is from -20°C to +120°C. When determining the parameters of a complete installation, the limitations of hoses, seals, valves, and other system components must also be taken into account.

BS5200 / ISO 8434-6 standard

The product data sheet indicates manufacturing in accordance with BS5200 / ISO 8434-6. Information about the standard is important during the identification and selection of compatible parts.

When replacing an old component, it is worth comparing both thread sizes, their actual diameter, pitch, and the design of the sealing surfaces.

Application of the 1/2" / 5/8" BSP reduction

The adapter can be used wherever a direct transition between a BSP 1/2" and BSP 5/8" connection is required. It works well during the construction of new installations as well as for repairs and modernization of existing hydraulic systems.

  • power hydraulic systems,
  • hydraulic power units,
  • agricultural and orchard machinery,
  • forestry machinery,
  • construction machinery,
  • industrial equipment,
  • repairs and modernizations of hydraulic installations.

Interchangeable designations of the adapter

Catalog designations assigned to this variant may be helpful in identifying an equivalent:

  • Rastelli-Raccordi: 34.67.10.08,
  • Vitillo: ARGG1008,
  • symbol: 1B-08-10,
  • alternative designation: XGR 1/2"-5/8".

Before using a replacement, always compare the full technical specification, not just the catalog symbol.

How to correctly select a 1/2" / 5/8" BSP reduction?

Before ordering, you should check the most important parameters:

  • side 1: male BSP 1/2" thread,
  • side 2: male BSP 5/8" thread,
  • external diameter of BSP 1/2": approximately 20,5-20,9 mm,
  • external diameter of BSP 5/8": approximately 22,6-22,9 mm,
  • sealing cone: 60°,
  • maximum working pressure: 315 bar,
  • working temperature: from -20°C to +120°C,
  • material: free-cutting steel,
  • surface protection: zinc plating with white passivation.

If you are selecting an adapter based on a component removed from a machine, measure both threads with a caliper and check their pitch. This is particularly important for BSP 5/8", which occurs less frequently than the most popular BSP sizes.

Selection of a complete hydraulic hose

The thread size alone is not enough to correctly manufacture a hose. You must also select the internal diameter of the hose, the hose construction, required working pressure, length, and proper terminations.

To prepare the appropriate configuration, you can use the HYDRON hydraulic hose configurator.

Frequently Asked Questions

What threads does the adapter have?

On one side there is a male BSP 1/2" thread, and on the other a male BSP 5/8" thread.
