Description
Straight connector BB BSP 1.1/4" 160 bar
Straight connector BB BSP 1.1/4" is a steel hydraulic connector equipped with two identical BSP 1.1/4" male threads. It is used for the direct connection of two compatible components of a hydraulic system. Since there is the same thread size on both sides, the product is a straight connector, not a reducing one.
The connector features a 60° sealing cone. The body is made of free-cutting steel, and its surface is protected by zinc plating with white passivation. The maximum working pressure is 160 bar, and the allowable temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C.

BSP 1.1/4" hydraulic nipple with two male threads
The designation BB indicates that there are male threads on both sides of the connector. In this variant, both connections are made in BSP 1.1/4" size, so the element allows for a straight, axial connection of two compatible components.
The connector can be used when installing new systems as well as for repairs and modernization of existing hydraulic systems. Other sizes and reducing versions can be found in the category straight inch BSP connectors.
How to recognize a BSP 1.1/4" thread?
The BSP 1.1/4" designation is a nominal value. The actual outside diameter of the thread on this connector is approximately 41.5-41.9 mm, while the inside thread dimension corresponds to a range of about 39.0-39.5 mm.
If the caliper shows a value around 41.7 mm on the male thread, it is an important clue for identifying BSP 1.1/4". For a certain selection, however, the thread pitch and the design of the sealing surface should also be checked.
Why doesn't BSP 1.1/4" have a diameter of 31.75 mm?
A direct conversion of 1.1/4 inches gives 31.75 mm, but this is not the actual outside diameter of a BSP thread. BSP pipe thread sizes are nominal designations.
In the case of the presented connector, the actual outside diameter is approximately 41.5-41.9 mm. Therefore, when identifying parts, it is better to use the actual measurement and a thread gauge than a simple conversion of inches to millimeters.
60° sealing cone
The connector features a 60° sealing cone. When selecting a mating component, you must therefore check not only the BSP 1.1/4" size but also the compatibility of the surfaces responsible for the seal integrity.
Mechanical assembly of two parts alone does not confirm their full compatibility. In power hydraulics, both the correct thread and a properly matched sealing method are important.
Working pressure 160 bar
The maximum working pressure for this variant is 160 bar. This parameter should be compared with the actual operating conditions of the machine before using the connector.
A large connection size does not automatically mean a high allowable pressure. Individual diameters of BSP connectors can have different rated values, so always refer to the specifications of the specific product.
The allowable pressure of a complete system is limited by its weakest component. When assembling an installation, it is therefore also worth checking the parameters of crimped hydraulic hoses, fittings, valves, and other hardware.
BSP 1.1/4" and flow in a hydraulic system
BSP 1.1/4" is one of the larger connection sizes used in hydraulics. When designing an installation, the connector size should be linked to the required flow and the diameter of the hoses.
The diameter should not be selected solely based on the available thread. The correct cross-section of the installation is important for flow velocity and pressure losses in the system.
Free-cutting steel with zinc plating
The body is made of free-cutting steel. The surface of the connector has been protected with zinc plating with white passivation, used in steel fasteners intended for standard power hydraulic systems.
The connector material should be chosen according to the medium and the working environment. In more demanding corrosive conditions, it is worth considering a suitable stainless steel variant.
Application with a G1.1/4" bonded seal
In a properly made port, a BSP 1.1/4" thread can work with a face seal if the connection design provides for the use of a metal-rubber washer (bonded seal).
Available in the HYDRON offer is a bonded seal G1.1/4" 42.93 × 52.38 × 3.2 mm. The sealing method must always be matched to the design of the specific port.
Operating temperature from -20°C to +120°C
The allowable operating temperature range of the connector is from -20°C to +120°C. Hydraulic oil is indicated as the medium in the product description.
When determining the allowable temperature of the complete system, the parameters of the hoses, seals, valves, and other system components should also be checked.
BS5200 / ISO 8434-6 Standard
The connector belongs to the group of BSP connections made according to BS5200 / ISO 8434-6. Information about the standard helps in identifying components and selecting compatible parts.
When replacing an existing connector, it is worth checking the thread diameter, its pitch, and the design of the sealing surface at the same time.
Application of the BSP 1.1/4" connector
The connector is intended for a straight connection of components having compatible BSP 1.1/4" connections. It can be used in the construction, repair, and modernization of hydraulic systems.
- power hydraulic systems,
- hydraulic power units,
- agricultural machinery,
- forestry machinery,
- construction machinery,
- industrial equipment,
- oil installations,
- service and modernization of hydraulic systems.
Interchangeable designations for the BSP 1.1/4" connector
When searching for an equivalent, designations found in the catalogs of various manufacturers may be helpful:
- Rastelli-Raccordi: 34.69.20.20,
- Vitillo: ANGG2020,
- type designation: 1B-20,
- alternative designation: XG 1 1/4".
Before using a replacement, always compare the full technical parameters of both elements, not just the catalog designation.
How to correctly select a BSP 1.1/4" connector?
Before ordering, it is worth confirming the most important parameters:
- both sides: male thread BSP 1.1/4",
- outside thread diameter: approximately 41.5-41.9 mm,
- sealing cone: 60°,
- maximum working pressure: 160 bar,
- operating temperature: from -20°C to +120°C,
- material: free-cutting steel,
- protection: zinc plating with white passivation.
If you are selecting a new connector based on a part removed from a machine, measure the thread with a caliper and check its pitch. This helps reduce the risk of confusing BSP with another inch thread standard.
Selection of a complete hydraulic hose
The thread size alone is not enough to correctly make a hose. You must also specify the internal diameter of the hose, the required working pressure, its construction, length, and the type of ends.
To prepare a complete hose, you can use the HYDRON hydraulic hose configurator.
