Description

Straight reduction connector BB BSP 3/4" / 1.1/2" 125 bar

Straight connector BB BSP 3/4" / 1.1/2" is a steel hydraulic connector designed to create a direct transition between two different BSP thread sizes. On one side there is a male BSP 3/4" thread, while on the other there is a larger male BSP 1.1/2" thread.

The connector features a 60° sealing cone. The body is made of free-cutting steel protected by zinc plating with white passivation. The maximum working pressure is 125 bar, and the working temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C.

BSP 3/4" to BSP 1.1/2" reduction

The different sizes of both connections mean that the product functions as a BSP 3/4" / 1.1/2" reduction. It allows connecting an element with a female BSP 3/4" thread to a component equipped with a larger female BSP 1.1/2" connection.

Both threads of the connector are male. Using a single reduction body allows for reducing the number of additional adapters needed to make the transition between these sizes.

Other diameter combinations can be found in the category straight inch BSP connectors.

How to recognize a BSP 3/4" thread?

The male BSP 3/4" thread has a diameter of approximately 26.1-26.4 mm. The 3/4" designation is a nominal value and does not correspond directly to the 19.05 mm diameter resulting from a simple inch conversion.

A measurement with a caliper around 26.3 mm is therefore an important clue when identifying BSP 3/4". For a certain selection, it is worth additionally checking the thread pitch.

How to recognize BSP 1.1/2"?

The larger side of the connector has a male BSP 1.1/2" thread with a diameter of approximately 47.4-47.8 mm. In this case as well, the inch designation is nominal.

A direct conversion of 1.1/2 inches gives 38.1 mm, which is a value clearly smaller than the actual external diameter of the thread. For this reason, BSP threads are best identified based on actual measurement and pitch.

60° sealing cone

The presented connector has a 60° sealing cone. When selecting a mating element, you should therefore check not only the thread size but also the compatibility of the surfaces responsible for sealing.

The mechanical screwing of two parts together does not confirm the correctness of the hydraulic connection. The thread and the sealing method should be consistent with the design of the mating element.

Working pressure 125 bar

The maximum working pressure specified for this reduction is 125 bar. This parameter should be compared with the actual pressure occurring in the installation before using the connector.

The size of the connection does not automatically determine the allowable pressure. Smaller BSP connectors may have higher nominal values, so each variant should be selected according to its individual specification.

The allowable pressure of the entire installation is limited by its weakest element. When completing the system, it is therefore worth checking the parameters of crimped hydraulic hoses, fittings, valves, and other equipment.

Large diameter change and flow

The transition from BSP 1.1/2" to BSP 3/4" means a significant change in the connection size. Therefore, when selecting a reduction, one must consider not only the thread compatibility but also the required medium flow and hose diameter.

A cross-section that is too small relative to the required flow can cause an increase in oil speed and additional pressure losses. When modernizing an installation, it is therefore worth analyzing the entire flow path, not just the connection point.

Free-cutting steel protected by zinc plating

The connector body is made of free-cutting steel. The surface is protected by zinc plating with white passivation, used in steel fasteners intended for standard power hydraulic systems.

The material should be selected according to the environmental conditions and the medium. In installations requiring higher corrosion resistance, it is worth considering appropriate connectors made of stainless steel.

Operating temperature from -20°C to +120°C

The allowable operating temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C. In the product description, hydraulic oil is indicated as the working medium.

When determining the parameters of the entire installation, the limitations of hoses, seals, valves, and other components must also be considered. The allowable temperature of the complete system is determined by the element with the lowest parameters.

Standard BS5200 / ISO 8434-6

The connector belongs to the group of BSP connections made according to BS5200 / ISO 8434-6. The manufacturing standard is important during component identification and selection of mating parts.

When replacing an existing connector, it is worth checking the actual diameter of both threads, their pitch, and the design of the sealing surfaces simultaneously.

Application of the BSP 3/4" / 1.1/2" reduction

The connector can be used wherever a direct transition between a BSP 3/4" and BSP 1.1/2" connection is required. The reduction design works well both during the construction of new systems and for repairs and modernizations of existing hydraulic installations.

  • power hydraulic systems,
  • hydraulic power units,
  • agricultural machinery,
  • forestry machinery,
  • construction machinery,
  • industrial equipment,
  • oil installations,
  • repairs and modernizations of hydraulic systems.

One reduction instead of several adapters

Using a direct connector BSP 3/4" / 1.1/2" allows for a diameter change in a single body. This limits the number of additional adapters and shortens the entire connection.

A smaller number of elements also means fewer threaded connections requiring correct assembly. This is particularly useful in places where available mounting space is limited.

Replacement designations for the connector

When searching for an equivalent, the catalog designations provided for this variant may be helpful:

  • Rastelli-Raccordi: 34.67.24.12,
  • Vitillo: ARGG2412,
  • alternative designation: XGR 3/4"-1 1/2".

Before using a replacement, always compare the full technical specification of both products, not just the catalog symbol.

How to correctly select a BSP 3/4" / 1.1/2" connector?

Before ordering, confirm the most important connection parameters:

  • side 1: male BSP 3/4" thread,
  • side 2: male BSP 1.1/2" thread,
  • BSP 3/4" external diameter: approximately 26.1-26.4 mm,
  • BSP 1.1/2" external diameter: approximately 47.4-47.8 mm,
  • sealing cone: 60°,
  • maximum working pressure: 125 bar,
  • working temperature: from -20°C to +120°C,
  • material: free-cutting steel,
  • protection: zinc plating with white passivation.

If the connector is selected based on a part removed from a machine, it is best to measure both threads with a caliper and additionally check their pitch.

Selection of a complete hydraulic hose

The size of the connection alone is not sufficient to correctly manufacture a hose. The internal diameter of the hose, its construction, required working pressure, length, and proper terminations must also be selected.

To prepare a complete hose, you can use the HYDRON hydraulic hose configurator.

Frequently Asked Questions
