Description

Straight reduction connector BB BSP 3/8" / 1/2" 315 bar

Straight connector BB BSP 3/8" / 1/2" is a compact hydraulic reduction with two external BSP threads. On one side there is BSP 3/8", on the other BSP 1/2". It allows for a direct connection between two system components with different connection sizes without the need for building a transition from several separate adapters.

The body is made of free-cutting steel protected by zinc plating with white passivation. The connection utilizes a 60° sealing cone. The connector is designed to operate at pressures up to 315 bar, and its total length is 35 mm.

Reduction nipple BSP 3/8" to 1/2"

The product is a typical BSP 3/8" / 1/2" thread reduction. Both sides have external threads, so the connector works with appropriately selected internal connections.

The one-piece construction simplifies the connection and allows for a reduction in the number of additional adapters. Other size combinations can be found in the category straight and reduction BSP connectors.

BSP 3/8" and BSP 1/2" - how to distinguish these threads?

The simplest method for preliminary identification is measuring the external diameter with a caliper:

  • BSP 3/8": approximately 16.3-16.6 mm,
  • BSP 1/2": approximately 20.5-20.9 mm.

BSP inch designations are nominal values. Therefore, 3/8" or 1/2" should not be converted directly into millimeters and such a diameter expected on the thread.

Why is it also worth checking the thread pitch?

The external diameter is very helpful during identification, but it should not be the only criterion. When selecting a connector, you should also check the pitch and geometry of the thread.

This is especially important when a part is being selected for an old machine or an unmarked component. A similar diameter does not always mean the same connection standard.

60° sealing cone

The connector features a 60° sealing cone. The conical surface participates in forming a proper connection with a compatible mating component.

Therefore, when choosing, you must check not only the BSP 3/8" or BSP 1/2" marking, but also the construction of the sealing area. The mere possibility of screwing the threads together does not guarantee proper tightness.

315 bar - parameter of a specific variant

The maximum working pressure of the BSP 3/8" / 1/2" connector is 315 bar. This value applies specifically to this variant and should not be automatically attributed to other sizes of BSP connectors.

In a hydraulic system, the allowable pressure for the entire system is determined by the component with the lowest parameters. Therefore, hoses, fittings, valves, quick couplers, and other fittings must also be checked.

If you need a ready-made connection, check the crimped hydraulic hoses available at HYDRON.

Reduction 1/2" to 3/8" and flow

Changing a connection from BSP 1/2" to BSP 3/8" means reducing the connection's cross-section. Therefore, the reduction should be selected not only by threads but also considering the flow occurring in the system.

If too much oil is to flow through a small cross-section, the velocity of the medium and pressure losses may increase. In practice, the diameter of the hoses and the requirements of the entire hydraulic circuit must be taken into account.

Compact length 35 mm

The total length of the connector is 35 mm. This parameter can be important when installing in locations with limited space, for example, with distributors, valves, or in compact installation layouts.

Before installation, it is also worth checking the access to the wrench surface and the amount of space required for proper tightening of the component.

Free-cutting steel protected with zinc plating

The body is made of free-cutting steel. The external surface has been protected with zinc plating with white passivation.

This is a typical design for steel connectors used in power hydraulics. When selecting a component for an environment with special corrosion requirements, the required material should be additionally verified.

Temperature range from -20°C to +120°C

The connector can operate within the temperature range specified for the product from -20°C to +120°C. The datasheet indicates hydraulic oilas the medium.

The allowable temperature for the complete system should also be determined based on the parameters of the hoses, seals, and other system components.

BS5200 / ISO 8434-6

The product datasheet specifies the manufacture of the connector as BS5200 / ISO 8434-6. The standard information facilitates correct identification of the connection system and selection of compatible components.

When replacing an old connector, it is best to compare the threads, their diameter, pitch, sealing method, and other technical parameters.

Where is the BSP 3/8" / 1/2" reduction used?

The connector proves useful wherever a transition between a BSP 3/8" and BSP 1/2" connection is needed within a single system. It can be used during the installation of new systems as well as during the service and modernization of existing machinery.

  • power hydraulics systems,
  • agricultural and orchard machinery,
  • forestry machinery,
  • construction machinery,
  • industrial equipment,
  • hydraulic power units and assemblies,
  • repairs and rebuilds of hydraulic systems.

Catalog designations and equivalents

When searching for an equivalent, the symbols assigned to this variant may be helpful:

  • Rastelli-Raccordi: 34.67.08.06,
  • Vitillo: ARGG0806,
  • symbol: 1B-06-08,
  • alternative designation: XGR 3/8"-1/2".

The catalog symbol should be treated as an aid in identification. Before installing an equivalent, one should also compare the threads, pressure, material, and sealing method.

How to select a BSP 3/8" / 1/2" connector?

Before ordering, it is worth checking in sequence:

  • whether two external threads are needed,
  • whether the smaller side is BSP 3/8",
  • whether the larger side is BSP 1/2",
  • the external diameter of both threads,
  • the thread pitch,
  • compatibility of the 60° cone,
  • the required working pressure,
  • the required system flow.

When choosing based on an old part, it is best to take measurements with a caliper and a thread gauge. This limits the risk of ordering a similar-looking but incompatible component.

Do you also need a hydraulic hose?

The fitting thread is only one of the hose parameters. When making it, the hose diameter, braid construction, required pressure, length, and both ends must be taken into account.

You can prepare the appropriate variant in the HYDRON hydraulic hose configurator.
