Description
Straight reducing connector MM BSP 1/2" / 3/4" 250 bar
Straight reducing connector MM BSP 1/2" / 3/4" allows for a direct transition between two popular hydraulic connection sizes. On one side there is a male BSP 1/2" thread, on the other a larger male BSP 3/4" thread. One body replaces a set of additional adapters and facilitates making a compact connection.
The connector features a 60° sealing cone. It is made of free-cutting steel protected by zinc plating with white passivation. The maximum working pressure for this variant is 250 bar, and the allowable operating temperature ranges from -20°C to +120°C.

BSP 1/2" to BSP 3/4" reduction
The product is used for the transition between BSP 1/2" and BSP 3/4". Both sides have male threads, therefore the connector works with appropriately selected elements having female threads.
The one-piece construction can limit the number of connections in the installation and facilitate assembly where there is no room for several consecutive adapters.
Other size combinations can be found in the category BSP straight and reducing connectors.
BSP 1/2" and BSP 3/4" - how to identify the correct thread?
In the case of BSP threads, the inch designation is a nominal value and does not directly correspond to the diameter measured with a caliper.
- BSP 1/2": external diameter approximately 20,5-20,9 mm,
- BSP 3/4": external diameter approximately 26,1-26,4 mm.
Therefore, if the old part does not have a marking, a measurement of about 20,7 mm may indicate BSP 1/2", and about 26,3 mm BSP 3/4". For certain identification, the thread pitch should also be verified.
Do not select a connector based solely on diameter
A caliper helps to quickly determine the probable size, but connections of different systems can have similar dimensions. When repairing a machine, it is also worth checking the thread pitch and sealing geometry.
Do not force the connection of elements that only seemingly fit together. Damage to the thread or sealing surface can later cause leakage problems.
60° sealing cone
The connector uses a 60° sealing cone. The mating element should have a compatible sealing surface geometry.
The correct BSP size alone is not enough confirmation of a proper connection. Before assembly, ensure that both the thread and the sealing method match.
Working pressure 250 bar
For the BSP 1/2" / 3/4" variant, the manufacturer specifies a maximum working pressure of 250 bar. The value applies to this specific connector and the parameters of other sizes from the same series should not be transferred to it.
The allowable pressure of the complete system is determined by the element with the lowest parameters. Therefore, hoses, fittings, valves, quick couplings, and other connectors should also be checked.
Ready-made solutions can be found in the category crimped hydraulic hoses.
Transition from 3/4" to 1/2" and oil flow
A reduction from BSP 3/4" to BSP 1/2" reduces the cross-section available for the flowing medium. Therefore, when selecting, it is worth considering not only the threads but also the flow required in a given circuit.
If the flow is too large in relation to the cross-section, the oil velocity and pressure losses may increase. The final selection should therefore take into account the hose diameters and parameters of the entire system.
Free-cutting steel and white zinc
The body is made of free-cutting steel. The surface is protected by zinc plating with white passivation, used in standard steel hydraulic power fasteners.
If the installation requires a stainless steel design, a stainless steel BSP 1/2" / 3/4" connectoris also available.
Operating temperature from -20°C to +120°C
The operating temperature range specified for the product is from -20°C to +120°C. The medium indicated for this connector is hydraulic oil.
When assessing the entire system, the temperature limits of hoses, seals, valves, and other components must also be taken into account.
BS5200 / ISO 8434-6 Standard
The connector belongs to the group of BSP connections complying with BS5200 / ISO 8434-6. Standard information is helpful for identifying an existing installation and selecting mating elements.
When replacing an old part, it is best to compare the size of both threads, diameter, pitch, sealing cone, and pressure parameters.
Application of the BSP 1/2" / 3/4" connector
The reduction works where components with BSP 1/2" and BSP 3/4" connections need to be directly connected. It can be used both during the construction of new installations and during the repair or modernization of existing systems.
- hydraulic power,
- agricultural and orchard machinery,
- forestry machinery,
- construction machinery,
- hydraulic power units,
- industrial equipment,
- oil installations,
- service and modernization of hydraulic systems.
Interchangeable and catalog markings
The following markings may be helpful during identification of an equivalent:
- Rastelli-Raccordi: 34.67.12.08,
- Vitillo: ARGG1208,
- symbol: 1B-08-12,
- alternative marking: XGR 1/2"-3/4".
Before using a replacement, full technical parameters should be compared. The catalog symbol itself should not replace verification of threads, pressure, and sealing method.
How to correctly select a BSP 1/2" / 3/4"?
Before ordering, check:
- if two male threads are required,
- if the smaller side has BSP 1/2",
- if the larger side has BSP 3/4",
- external diameter of both threads,
- thread pitch,
- 60° cone compatibility,
- required working pressure,
- required flow in the installation.
When selecting based on a part removed from a machine, it is best to use a caliper and a thread gauge. This significantly reduces the risk of error.
Sealing under the hexagon - only with appropriate port design
If the connection design provides for a face seal under the hexagon, the HYDRON offer includes appropriate bonded seals:
However, washers are not automatically required for every BSP connection. They should only be used when the port geometry and sealing method are designed for it.
Selecting a complete hydraulic hose
The thread size is only one of the hose parameters. DN diameter, hose construction, working pressure, length, and type of both ends should also be selected.
You can prepare an individual hose in the HYDRON hydraulic hose configurator.
Frequently Asked Questions
What threads does the BSP 1/2" / 3/4" connector have?
The connector has two male threads: BSP 1/2" on one side and BSP 3/4" on the other.
What is the maximum working pressure?
The maximum working pressure specified for this variant is 250 bar.
How to recognize BSP 1/2" and BSP 3/4"?
The male BSP 1/2" thread has about 20,5-20,9 mm diameter, while the BSP 3/4" has about 26,1-26,4 mm. For certain identification, the thread pitch should also be checked.
Does the connector have a sealing cone?
Yes. The connector has a 60° sealing cone, so the mating element should have a compatible connection geometry.
What to look for when reducing from BSP 3/4" to 1/2"?
Besides thread and pressure compatibility, the required flow should be checked, because the transition from BSP 3/4" to BSP 1/2" reduces the connection cross-section.
