Description

Straight reduction connector MM BSP 1/8" / 1/4" 350 bar

Straight connector MM BSP 1/8" / 1/4" is a steel hydraulic connector equipped with two different BSP male threads. On one side there is a BSP 1/8" connection, and on the other a larger BSP 1/4". The element allows for a direct transition between these sizes without using several additional adapters.

The connector has a 60° sealing cone. The body is made of free-cutting steel protected by zinc plating with white passivation. Maximum working pressure is 350 bar, and the working temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C.

Technical parameters of the BSP 1/8" / 1/4" connector

  • product type: straight hydraulic connector MM,
  • type: reduction connector,
  • thread 1: male BSP 1/8",
  • thread 2: male BSP 1/4",
  • BSP 1/8" thread dimension: 9.3-9.7 mm external / 8.2-8.6 mm internal,
  • BSP 1/4" thread dimension: 12.9-13.1 mm external / 11.4-11.9 mm internal,
  • sealing cone angle: 60°,
  • working pressure: 350 bar,
  • working temperature: from -20°C to +120°C,
  • material: free-cutting steel,
  • surface protection: zinc plating with white passivation,
  • manufacturing standard: BS5200 / ISO 8434-6,
  • medium: hydraulic oil,
  • purpose: connecting hydraulic system elements,
  • marking according to Rastelli-Raccordi: 34.67.04.02,
  • marking according to Vitillo: ARGG0402,
  • alternative marking: 1B-02-04 / XGR 1/4"-1/8".

BSP 1/8" to BSP 1/4" reduction

The connector allows connecting two system elements having different BSP connection sizes. The BSP 1/8" side has a smaller diameter, while the BSP 1/4" has a larger one, which is why the product functions as a hydraulic reduction.

Both threads are male. The one-piece construction allows reducing the number of additional adapters and shortening the entire connection.

How to identify a BSP 1/8" thread?

The BSP 1/8" male thread has a diameter of approximately 9.3-9.7 mm. The 1/8" designation is a nominal value, so the actual thread diameter is not 3.18 mm.

Measurement with a caliper around 9.5 mm is an important clue when identifying BSP 1/8". For a certain selection, the thread pitch should also be checked.

How to identify a BSP 1/4" thread?

The other side of the connector has a BSP 1/4" male thread with a diameter of approximately 12.9-13.1 mm. Also in this case, the inch designation is nominal.

A measurement around 13 mm may indicate BSP 1/4", however, for proper identification, it is worth additionally checking the pitch and sealing method.

60° sealing cone

The connector has a 60° sealing cone. When selecting cooperating elements, you should therefore check not only the thread sizes but also the compatibility of the surfaces responsible for the tightness of the connection.

Mechanical screwing of two parts together does not mean full compatibility yet. The thread and sealing method should correspond to the design of the cooperating element.

350 bar working pressure

The maximum working pressure of this reduction is 350 bar. This is a parameter of a specific BSP 1/8" / 1/4" variant and should not be automatically transferred to other sizes.

The permissible pressure of the entire system is determined by its weakest element. Therefore, hoses, fittings, valves, quick couplings, and other components should also be checked.

Ready-made solutions can be found in the category crimped hydraulic hoses.

Diameter reduction vs flow

The transition from BSP 1/4" to BSP 1/8" means reducing the connection cross-section. When selecting a connector, it is worth considering not only thread compatibility but also the required medium flow and hose diameter.

A cross-section that is too small can increase flow velocity and cause additional pressure losses. Therefore, the reduction should be selected taking the entire hydraulic system into account.

Free-cutting steel and zinc plating with white passivation

The body is made of free-cutting steel. The surface is protected by zinc plating with white passivation, used in steel fasteners for standard hydraulic systems.

The material of the connector should be matched to the working environment, temperature, and type of medium.

Working temperature from -20°C to +120°C

The permissible working temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C. Hydraulic oil is indicated as the working medium in the product description.

The parameters of the entire installation should also be determined taking into account the limitations of hoses, seals, valves, and other components.

BS5200 / ISO 8434-6 standard

The connector belongs to the group of BSP connections made according to BS5200 / ISO 8434-6. Information about the standard helps in identifying the element and selecting compatible parts.

When replacing an old connector, check both thread sizes, their actual diameter, pitch, and the design of the sealing surfaces.

Application of the BSP 1/8" / 1/4" reduction

The connector can be used wherever a direct transition between a BSP 1/8" and BSP 1/4" connection is required. It works well in the construction of new installations and during repairs and modernizations of existing systems.

  • power hydraulic systems,
  • agricultural and orchard machinery,
  • forestry machinery,
  • construction machinery,
  • industrial equipment,
  • oil installations,
  • repairs and modernizations of hydraulic systems.

Interchangeable markings of the connector

The following catalog markings for this variant may be helpful in identifying an equivalent:

  • Rastelli-Raccordi: 34.67.04.02,
  • Vitillo: ARGG0402,
  • symbol: 1B-02-04,
  • alternative marking: XGR 1/4"-1/8".

Before using an equivalent, always compare the full technical specification, not just the catalog marking.

How to properly select a BSP 1/8" / 1/4" connector?

The most important parameters should be confirmed before ordering:

  • side 1: male BSP 1/8" thread,
  • side 2: male BSP 1/4" thread,
  • BSP 1/8" external diameter: approximately 9.3-9.7 mm,
  • BSP 1/4" external diameter: approximately 12.9-13.1 mm,
  • sealing cone: 60°,
  • maximum working pressure: 350 bar,
  • working temperature: from -20°C to +120°C.

If you are choosing a connector based on a part removed from a machine, measure both threads with a caliper and check their pitch.

Selection of a complete hydraulic hose

The size of the connection alone is not enough to properly make a hose. You also need to select the internal diameter of the hose, its construction, required working pressure, length, and appropriate ends.

To prepare a complete hose, you can use the HYDRON hydraulic hose configurator.

Frequently Asked Questions

What threads does the connector have?

On one side there is a BSP 1/8" male thread, and on the other a BSP 1/4" male thread.

Is this a reduction connector?

Yes. The connector allows a direct transition between BSP 1/8" and BSP 1/4".

What is the maximum working pressure?

The maximum working pressure specified for this product is 350 bar.

How to identify BSP 1/8" and BSP 1/4" threads?

A BSP 1/8" male thread is approximately 9.3-9.7 mm in diameter, while BSP 1/4" is approximately 12.9-13.1 mm. For a certain selection, it is also worth checking the thread pitch.

What should I pay attention to when choosing this reduction?

You should check both thread sizes, the 60° sealing cone, the required working pressure, and the flow required in the system.
