Description
Straight reducing coupling MM BSP 1" / 2" 100 bar
Straight reducing coupling MM BSP 1" / 2" is a large hydraulic connector with two BSP male threads of different sizes. On one side there is BSP 1", and on the other BSP 2". The element allows for a direct transition between these connections without assembling a connection from several successive adapters.
The body is made of free-cutting steel protected by zinc plating with white passivation. The coupling uses a 60° sealing cone. The maximum working pressure for this variant is 100 bar, and the temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C.

Large reduction BSP 1" to BSP 2"
The difference between the two sides is significant. The BSP 1" thread has an external diameter of approximately 33 mm, while the BSP 2" is approximately 59.4 mm. The product is therefore a 1" / 2" hydraulic reduction, and not a regular nipple with identical threads.
Both sides have male threads. The coupling can be used to connect two compatible elements equipped with appropriate female threads.
Other size combinations can be found in the category BSP straight and reducing couplings.
How to recognize a BSP 1" thread?
The BSP 1" male thread has a diameter of approximately 33.0-33.2 mm. The 1" value is a nominal designation, so a diameter of 25.4 mm resulting from a simple inch conversion should not be expected.
Measurement with a caliper around 33 mm is a good starting point for identification. For a certain selection, the thread pitch and the sealing method should also be checked.
How to recognize a BSP 2" thread?
The BSP 2" male thread has a diameter of approximately 59.2-59.6 mm. Likewise, the nominal designation here does not directly correspond to the value of 50.8 mm resulting from the conversion of two inches.
For a part without clear markings, a measurement result around 59.4 mm is an important clue that it is a BSP 2" thread. To confirm, the thread pitch should also be checked.
60° sealing cone
The coupling has a 60° sealing cone. When selecting a mating part, you must therefore check not only the diameter and the BSP thread designation, but also the geometry of the surfaces responsible for the tightness of the connection.
The mere possibility of mechanical tightening of the elements does not guarantee a proper seal. The conical surfaces of both parts should belong to a compatible connection system.
100 bar - an important parameter for this size
The maximum working pressure for the BSP 1" / 2" coupling is 100 bar. This is particularly important because smaller BSP couplings from the same group can have ratings in the order of 200, 315, or 350 bar.
The allowable pressure should therefore not be determined based on the thread type or the appearance of the coupling alone. You must always check the parameter of the specific variant.
The pressure of the complete system is limited by the component with the lowest rating. This also applies to hoses, fittings, valves, quick couplings, and other components.
Reduction from BSP 2" to 1" and flow
The transition from a large BSP 2" connection to BSP 1" means a very clear reduction in the connection cross-section. In such a case, it is particularly important to consider the required oil flow.
A cross-section that is too small relative to the flow rate can increase the speed of the medium and cause additional pressure losses. For this reason, the reduction should not be selected solely according to the matching threads.
The diameter of the hoses, pump parameters, valves, and the requirements of the entire hydraulic circuit must be taken into account.
Why can one reduction be better than several adapters?
A direct BSP 1" / 2" coupling allows for a size change in one body. This can shorten the installation and limit the number of additional threaded connections.
This does not mean, however, that the analysis of flow or allowable pressure can be omitted. The coupling must correspond to the technical parameters of the entire installation.
Free-cutting steel with white zinc plating
The body is made of free-cutting steel. The surface has been protected by zinc plating with white passivation, commonly used in steel hydraulic fasteners.
The material and type of protection should always be matched to the environmental conditions in which the system operates.
Working temperature from -20°C to +120°C
The product data sheet specifies the working temperature range from -20°C to +120°C. The indicated medium is hydraulic oil.
The allowable temperature of the entire system may be lower if more restrictive limits are held by hoses, seals, valves, or other components.
BS5200 / ISO 8434-6 standard
The coupling belongs to the group of BSP connections specified on the data sheet as BS5200 / ISO 8434-6. Information about the standard helps in identifying the connection system and selecting mating parts.
When replacing an old element, it is worth comparing both threads, their diameter, pitch, 60° cone, material, and allowable working pressure.
Application of the BSP 1" / 2" coupling
The reduction is intended for large hydraulic connections where a transition between BSP 1" and BSP 2" is required. It can be used both during the construction of new installations and during the modernization of existing systems.
- power hydraulic systems,
- large hydraulic power units,
- agricultural machinery,
- forestry machinery,
- construction machinery,
- industrial equipment,
- oil installations,
- repairs and modifications of hydraulic systems.
Vitillo designation ARGG3216
The product data sheet provides the catalog designation Vitillo ARGG3216. This symbol can be helpful in identifying the coupling and searching for an equivalent.
Before using a replacement, however, the full technical specification should be compared, primarily the BSP 1" / 2" threads, working pressure, material, and sealing method.
How to choose a BSP 1" / 2" coupling?
Before ordering, it is worth checking:
- whether two male threads are needed,
- whether the smaller side is BSP 1",
- whether the larger side is BSP 2",
- whether the thread diameters are approximately 33.0-33.2 mm and 59.2-59.6 mm respectively,
- the pitch of both threads,
- compatibility of the 60° sealing cone,
- whether 100 bar is a sufficient nominal pressure for the system,
- whether the cross-section reduction from 2" to 1" is appropriate for the required flow.
If the coupling is selected based on an old element, it is best to take a measurement with a caliper and check the pitch with a thread gauge.
Selection of a hose for a large BSP connection
The thread size alone does not determine the correct hydraulic hose. You also need to select the hose DN diameter, its construction, working pressure, length, and type of ends.
Ready-made solutions can be found in the category crimped hydraulic hoses, and an individual configuration can be prepared in the HYDRON hydraulic hose configurator.
Frequently Asked Questions
What threads does the BSP 1" / 2" coupling have?
The coupling has two male threads: BSP 1" on one side and BSP 2" on the other.
What is the maximum working pressure?
The maximum working pressure specified for this variant is 100 bar.
How to recognize BSP 1" and BSP 2"?
The BSP 1" male thread is approximately 33.0-33.2 mm in diameter, while the BSP 2" is approximately 59.2-59.6 mm. For certain identification, the thread pitch should also be checked.
Does the coupling have a sealing cone?
Yes. The coupling has a 60° sealing cone, so the mating element should have a compatible connection geometry.
What to look for when reducing from BSP 2" to 1"?
In addition to thread and pressure compatibility, the required flow should be checked, as the transition from BSP 2" to BSP 1" significantly reduces the connection cross-section.
