Description

Straight reduction coupling MM BSP 1.1/4" / 1.1/2" 125 bar

Straight coupling MM BSP 1.1/4" / 1.1/2" is a steel hydraulic connector equipped with two different BSP external threads. On one side there is a BSP 1.1/4" connection, and on the other a larger BSP 1.1/2". The coupling allows for a direct reduction between these two sizes without using additional adapters.

The element features a 60° sealing cone. The body is made of free-cutting steel protected by zinc plating with white passivation. The maximum working pressure is 125 bar, and the operating temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C.

BSP 1.1/4" to BSP 1.1/2" reduction

The different sizes of both connections make it a BSP 1.1/4" / 1.1/2" reduction coupling. It allows connecting a component with a BSP 1.1/4" internal thread to a component with a BSP 1.1/2" internal thread.

Using one reduction allows for limiting the number of additional adapters and shortening the entire connection. Other thread combinations are available in the category BSP straight inch couplings.

How to recognize BSP 1.1/4"?

The BSP 1.1/4" thread in the presented product has an external diameter of approximately 41.5-41.9 mm. The 1.1/4" designation is a nominal value and does not directly correspond to the diameter resulting from a simple conversion of inches to millimeters.

When identifying the element, it is worth checking the thread pitch and the design of the sealing surface in addition to the diameter.

How to recognize BSP 1.1/2"?

The larger side of the coupling has an external BSP 1.1/2" thread with a diameter of approximately 47.4-47.8 mm. A measurement around 47.6 mm is an important clue when identifying this size.

In this case as well, the inch designation is nominal, so a diameter of 38.1 mm should not be expected.

60° sealing cone

The coupling features a 60° sealing cone. When selecting mating elements, check not only the thread size and type but also the compatibility of the sealing surface.

The ability to mechanically screw two elements together does not automatically mean they form a proper hydraulic connection. The thread system and sealing method should be compatible.

125 bar working pressure

The maximum working pressure of this coupling is 125 bar. This value should be compared with the actual pressure occurring in the installation before assembly.

The permissible pressure of the entire system is limited by the component with the lowest parameters. Therefore, hoses, fittings, valves, quick couplers, and other fittings should also be checked.

If you are completing the entire connection, also check crimped hydraulic hoses.

A large connection does not mean high pressure

BSP 1.1/4" and BSP 1.1/2" are among the larger hydraulic connections, however, the thread size does not directly determine the permissible pressure. For this specific variant, the maximum value is 125 bar.

Therefore, parameters should not be transferred from other sizes of BSP couplings. Each variant should be selected according to its own technical specification.

Diameter reduction and oil flow

The transition from BSP 1.1/2" to BSP 1.1/4" reduces the connection cross-section. When selecting a reduction, one must therefore consider not only thread compatibility but also the required medium flow and hose diameter.

In systems with high flow, an incorrectly selected cross-section can affect the flow velocity and pressure losses. These parameters should be analyzed for the entire system.

Free-cutting steel and zinc plating with white passivation

The coupling body is made of free-cutting steel, and the surface is protected by zinc plating with white passivation. This design is widely used in steel fasteners intended for standard power hydraulics installations.

If the working conditions require greater corrosion resistance, it is worth checking stainless steel straight couplings.

Operating temperature from -20°C to +120°C

The operating temperature range specified for the product is from -20°C to +120°C. Hydraulic oil is indicated as the working medium.

When determining the parameters of the entire installation, the limitations of hoses, seals, valves, and other system components must also be taken into account.

BS5200 / ISO 8434-6 Standard

The coupling belongs to the group of BSP connections made according to BS5200 / ISO 8434-6. Information about the standard is important during component identification and selection of compatible parts.

When replacing an existing coupling, it is worth comparing the sizes of both threads, their actual diameters, pitch, and the design of the sealing surfaces.

Application of the BSP 1.1/4" / 1.1/2" reduction

The coupling can be used wherever a simple transition between a BSP 1.1/4" and BSP 1.1/2" connection is necessary. It is used in the construction of new installations as well as in repairs and modernizations of existing hydraulic systems.

  • power hydraulics systems,
  • hydraulic power units,
  • agricultural machinery,
  • forestry machinery,
  • construction machinery,
  • industrial equipment,
  • oil installations,
  • repairs and modernizations of hydraulic installations.

Alternative markings

When searching for an equivalent, the catalog markings provided for this variant may be helpful:

  • Rastelli-Raccordi: 34.67.24.20,
  • Vitillo: ARGG2420,
  • type designation: 1B-20-24,
  • alternative designation: XGR 1 1/4"-1 1/2".

When using a replacement, always compare the full technical specification and not just the product symbol.

How to correctly select the coupling?

Before ordering, confirm the most important parameters of the connection:

  • side 1: external BSP 1.1/4",
  • side 2: external BSP 1.1/2",
  • external diameter BSP 1.1/4": approximately 41.5-41.9 mm,
  • external diameter BSP 1.1/2": approximately 47.4-47.8 mm,
  • sealing cone: 60°,
  • maximum working pressure: 125 bar,
  • operating temperature: from -20°C to +120°C.

If you are selecting a coupling based on an element removed from a machine, it is worth measuring both threads with a caliper and checking their pitch.

Hydraulic hose selection

The size of the connection itself is not enough to properly make a complete hose. You also need to select the internal diameter of the hose, its construction, required pressure, length, and appropriate ends.

To prepare the correct hose, you can use the HYDRON hydraulic hose configurator.

Frequently Asked Questions

What threads does the coupling have?

On one side there is a BSP 1.1/4" external thread, and on the other a BSP 1.1/2" external thread.

Is this a reduction coupling?

Yes. The coupling allows for a direct transition between BSP 1.1/4" and a larger BSP 1.1/2".

What is the maximum working pressure?

The maximum working pressure specified for the product is 125 bar.

How to recognize BSP 1.1/4" and BSP 1.1/2" threads?

The external BSP 1.1/4" thread is approximately 41.5-41.9 mm in diameter, while the BSP 1.1/2" is approximately 47.4-47.8 mm. It is also worth checking the thread pitch.

What to look for when choosing this reduction?

Check both thread sizes, the 60° cone, the required working pressure, and the flow parameters of the installation.
