Description

Straight coupling MM BSP 1/2" stainless steel 1.4571 315 bar

Straight coupling MM BSP 1/2" is a stainless hydraulic connector equipped with two identical BSP 1/2" external threads. It is used for direct connection of two compatible installation elements. Since the same thread size is used on both sides, the coupling does not perform reduction.

The body is made of 1.4571 stainless steel. The coupling is designed to operate at pressures up to 315 bar and at temperatures from -20°C to +120°C. It belongs to the BSP group of connections compliant with BS5200 / ISO 8434-6 and features the standard for this group 60° sealing cone.

Technical parameters of the BSP 1/2" coupling

  • product type: straight hydraulic coupling MM,
  • type: straight coupling / hydraulic nipple,
  • thread 1: external BSP 1/2",
  • thread 2: external BSP 1/2",
  • BSP 1/2" thread dimension: 20.5-20.9 mm external / 18.6-19.0 mm internal,
  • sealing cone: 60°,
  • working pressure: 315 bar,
  • operating temperature: from -20°C to +120°C,
  • material: stainless steel 1.4571,
  • manufacturing standard: BS5200 / ISO 8434-6,
  • purpose: as a coupling for connecting installation elements,
  • alternative marking: 505G12.

Hydraulic nipple BSP 1/2" with two external threads

Marking MM defines a coupling with two external threads. In this variant, both have the size BSP 1/2", allowing the element to make a straight, axial connection of two components with compatible internal threads.

The coupling can be used when creating new installations, repairs, and modernizing existing systems. Other diameters and reduction variants can be found in the category BSP inch straight couplings.

How to identify a BSP 1/2" thread?

The BSP 1/2" external thread has a diameter of approximately 20.5-20.9 mm. The 1/2" designation is a nominal value, so the actual thread diameter is not 12.7 mm.

Measuring with a caliper around 20.7 mm is an important clue when identifying BSP 1/2". For certain selection, however, you should also check the thread pitch and the design of the sealing surface.

60° sealing cone

BSP couplings from this group have a 60° cone. When selecting a mating element, you should therefore verify not only the nominal BSP 1/2" size, but also the compatibility of the surfaces responsible for sealing.

Simply screwing two elements together does not guarantee a correct hydraulic connection. The thread and the geometry of the sealing surfaces should be compatible with each other.

Stainless steel 1.4571

The most important feature of this variant is the body's construction from 1.4571 stainless steel. This distinguishes it from standard BSP couplings made of free-cutting steel and protected with a zinc coating.

The stainless version can be considered in installations where elements with increased material resistance compared to standard steel connectors are required.

More variants can be found in the category stainless steel straight couplings.

Working pressure 315 bar

The maximum working pressure specified for the product is 315 bar. This parameter should always be compared with the actual operating and maximum pressure occurring in the installation.

The allowable pressure of a complete system is limited by its weakest element. In addition to the coupling, it is therefore necessary to verify the parameters of hoses, fittings, quick couplings, valves, and other equipment.

If you need a complete connection, also check assembled hydraulic hoses.

Operating temperature from -20°C to +120°C

For this specific product, the technical data sheet specifies an operating temperature range from -20°C to +120°C. This is the value that should be adopted when selecting the coupling, regardless of the broader temperature capabilities of other stainless elements.

The allowable temperature of the entire system should also be determined considering the parameters of hoses, seals, valves, and other components.

Standard BS5200 / ISO 8434-6

The product data sheet indicates manufacturing compliant with BS5200 / ISO 8434-6. The standard is important during connector identification and mating element selection.

When replacing an old nipple, it is worth comparing the thread size, its actual diameter, pitch, and the design of the sealing surface.

BSP 1/2" coupling or reduction?

This product has BSP 1/2" on both sides, so it is a straight coupling and does not change the connection size.

If the second installation element has a different size, an appropriate reduction will be needed, for example BSP 1/2" / 3/4", BSP 1/2" / 1" or another variant tailored to the specific system.

Application of the stainless steel BSP 1/2" coupling

The coupling is intended for making straight connections between compatible BSP 1/2" connections. It can be used during construction, repair, or modernization of installations requiring a stainless steel fastener.

  • power hydraulic systems,
  • hydraulic power units,
  • industrial machinery and equipment,
  • agricultural and construction machinery,
  • installations requiring the use of stainless steel couplings,
  • service and modernization of hydraulic systems.

How to correctly select a BSP 1/2" coupling?

Before ordering, it is worth confirming the most important parameters:

  • both sides: external thread BSP 1/2",
  • external thread diameter: approximately 20.5-20.9 mm,
  • sealing cone: 60°,
  • maximum working pressure: 315 bar,
  • operating temperature: from -20°C to +120°C,
  • material: stainless steel 1.4571.

If you are selecting a coupling based on an element removed from a machine, measure the thread with a caliper and check its pitch. This will reduce the risk of confusing BSP with another inch thread standard.

Selection of a hydraulic hose for BSP 1/2"

The connection size alone is not enough to correctly make a complete hydraulic hose. You also need to select the internal hose diameter, its construction, required working pressure, length, and appropriate ends.

To prepare the correct configuration, you can use the HYDRON hydraulic hose configurator.

Frequently asked questions

What threads does the coupling have?

The coupling has two identical BSP 1/2" external threads.

What is the maximum working pressure?

The maximum working pressure specified for this product is 315 bar.

What material is the coupling made of?

The coupling body is made of stainless steel 1.4571.

How to recognize a BSP 1/2" thread?

The BSP 1/2" external thread is approximately 20.5-20.9 mm in diameter. For certain identification, the thread pitch should also be checked.

What sealing cone does the BSP 1/2" coupling have?

BSP couplings from this group have a 60° sealing cone. The mating element should have a compatible sealing surface.
