Description

Straight reducing coupling MM BSP 3/4" / 1" 200 bar

Straight coupling MM BSP 3/4" / 1" is a steel hydraulic coupling equipped with two different external BSP threads. On one side there is a 3/4" BSP connection, and on the other a larger 1" BSP. The reducing design allows for a direct connection of two system components with different connection sizes.

The coupling features a 60° sealing cone. The body is made of free-cutting steel protected by zinc plating with white passivation. The maximum working pressure is 200 bar, and the operating temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C.

Technical parameters of the 3/4" / 1" BSP coupling

  • product type: straight hydraulic coupling MM,
  • type: reducing coupling,
  • thread 1: external 3/4" BSP,
  • thread 2: external 1" BSP,
  • 3/4" BSP thread dimension: 26,1-26,4 mm external / 24,1-24,5 mm internal,
  • 1" BSP thread dimension: 33,0-33,2 mm external / 30,3-30,8 mm internal,
  • sealing cone angle: 60°,
  • working pressure: 200 bar,
  • operating temperature: from -20°C to +120°C,
  • material: free-cutting steel,
  • surface protection: zinc plating with white passivation,
  • manufacturing standard: BS5200 / ISO 8434-6,
  • medium: hydraulic oil,
  • purpose: connecting hydraulic system components,
  • designation according to Rastelli-Raccordi: 34.67.16.12,
  • designation according to Vitillo: ARGG1612,
  • alternative designation: 1B-12-16 / XGR 3/4"-1".

3/4" BSP to 1" BSP reduction

The different diameters of both connections mean that the product serves as a 3/4" / 1" BSP reduction. Both threads are external, so the coupling can connect two compatible components equipped with the appropriate internal threads.

The one-piece design allows for reducing the number of additional adapters and shortening the entire connection. Other diameter configurations can be found in the category straight and reducing BSP couplings.

How to identify a 3/4" BSP thread?

The external 3/4" BSP thread has a diameter of approximately 26,1-26,4 mm. The 3/4" designation is a nominal value, therefore the actual diameter is not 19,05 mm.

Measuring with a caliper around 26,3 mm is an important clue during identification. For a certain selection, you should also check the thread pitch and the design of the sealing surface.

How to identify a 1" BSP thread?

The larger side of the coupling has an external 1" BSP thread with a diameter of approximately 33,0-33,2 mm. Here, too, the inch designation is nominal and does not directly correspond to 25,4 mm.

A measurement around 33 mm may indicate 1" BSP, but it is worth confirming the thread pitch during identification.

60° sealing cone

The coupling features a 60° sealing cone. When selecting the mating component, you should check not only the size and type of the BSP thread, but also the compatibility of the surfaces responsible for sealing.

Merely mechanically screwing two components together does not yet mean a correct hydraulic connection. The thread and the geometry of the sealing surfaces should be compatible.

Working pressure 200 bar

The maximum working pressure of this reduction is 200 bar. This parameter should be compared with the actual operating pressure and the maximum pressure occurring in the system.

The allowable pressure of the entire system is limited by its weakest component. In addition to the coupling, hoses, fittings, valves, quick couplers, and other fittings should also be verified.

If you are completing the entire connection, also check crimped hydraulic hoses.

1" to 3/4" BSP reduction and flow

Transitioning from 1" BSP to 3/4" BSP reduces the connection's cross-section. When selecting a reduction, you should therefore consider not only thread compatibility, but also the required medium flow and the diameter of the mating hoses.

A cross-section that is too small relative to the required flow can increase oil velocity and cause additional pressure losses. The reduction should therefore be evaluated in the context of the entire hydraulic system.

Free-cutting steel protected by zinc plating

The coupling body is made of free-cutting steel. The surface has been protected by zinc plating with white passivation, used in steel fasteners intended for standard power hydraulic systems.

If the working environment requires a different material, it is also worth checking couplings made of stainless steel available in the HYDRON offer.

Operating temperature from -20°C to +120°C

The allowable operating temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C. The product sheet indicates hydraulic oil as the working medium.

When determining the allowable parameters of the entire system, the limitations of hoses, seals, valves, and other components should also be taken into account.

BS5200 / ISO 8434-6 Standard

The coupling belongs to the group of BSP connections made according to BS5200 / ISO 8434-6. Standard information is important during part identification and selection of mating components.

When replacing an old coupling, it is worth checking both thread sizes, their actual diameter, pitch, and the design of the sealing surfaces.

Application of 3/4" / 1" BSP reduction

The coupling can be used wherever a direct transition between a 3/4" BSP and a 1" BSP connection is required. It works well both in the construction of new systems and during repairs and modernization of existing hydraulic systems.

  • power hydraulic systems,
  • hydraulic power units,
  • agricultural and horticultural machinery,
  • forestry machinery,
  • construction machinery,
  • industrial equipment,
  • oil systems,
  • repairs and modernizations of hydraulic systems.

Interchangeable coupling designations

For identification of an equivalent, catalog designations assigned to this variant may be helpful:

  • Rastelli-Raccordi: 34.67.16.12,
  • Vitillo: ARGG1612,
  • symbol: 1B-12-16,
  • alternative designation: XGR 3/4"-1".

Before using a replacement, always compare the full technical specification, not just the catalog designation.

How to correctly select a 3/4" / 1" BSP coupling?

Before ordering, confirm the most important parameters:

  • side 1: external 3/4" BSP thread,
  • side 2: external 1" BSP thread,
  • external 3/4" BSP diameter: approximately 26,1-26,4 mm,
  • external 1" BSP diameter: approximately 33,0-33,2 mm,
  • sealing cone: 60°,
  • maximum working pressure: 200 bar,
  • operating temperature: from -20°C to +120°C,
  • material: free-cutting steel,
  • protection: zinc plating with white passivation.

If you are selecting a coupling based on a part removed from a machine, measure both threads with a caliper and check their pitch. This will help reduce the risk of confusing BSP with another inch thread standard.

Selection of a complete hydraulic hose

The connection size alone is not enough to correctly manufacture a hose. You should also select the hose's internal diameter, its construction, required working pressure, length, and appropriate ends.

To prepare the appropriate configuration, you can use the HYDRON hydraulic hose configurator.

Frequently Asked Questions

What threads does the coupling have?

On one side there is an external 3/4" BSP thread, and on the other an external 1" BSP thread.

Is this a reducing coupling?

Yes. The coupling allows for a direct transition between 3/4" BSP and 1" BSP.

What is the maximum working pressure?

The maximum working pressure specified for this product is 200 bar.

How to identify 3/4" BSP and 1" BSP threads?

An external 3/4" BSP thread is approximately 26,1-26,4 mm in diameter, while a 1" BSP is approximately 33,0-33,2 mm. For certain identification, you should also check the thread pitch.

What to look for when selecting this reduction?

You should check both thread sizes, the 60° sealing cone, the maximum pressure of 200 bar, and the required flow in the system.
