Description

Straight reducing male-male connector BSP 1" / 1.1/4" 160 bar

Straight male-male connector BSP 1" / 1.1/4" is a steel hydraulic connector equipped with two different BSP male threads. On one side there is a BSP 1" connection, and on the other, a larger BSP 1.1/4". The one-piece design allows for a direct transition between these sizes without using multiple additional adapters.

The connector has a 60° sealing cone. The body is made of free-cutting steel protected by zinc plating with white passivation. The maximum working pressure is 160 bar, and the working temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C.

Technical parameters of the BSP 1" / 1.1/4" connector

  • product type: straight male-male hydraulic connector,
  • type: reducing connector,
  • thread 1: male BSP 1",
  • thread 2: male BSP 1.1/4",
  • BSP 1" thread dimension: 33.0-33.2 mm outer / 30.3-30.8 mm inner,
  • BSP 1.1/4" thread dimension: 41.5-41.9 mm outer / 39.0-39.5 mm inner,
  • sealing cone angle: 60°,
  • working pressure: 160 bar,
  • working temperature: from -20°C to +120°C,
  • material: free-cutting steel,
  • surface protection: zinc plating with white passivation,
  • manufacturing standard: BS5200 / ISO 8434-6,
  • medium: hydraulic oil,
  • purpose: connecting hydraulic system elements,
  • designation according to Rastelli-Raccordi: 34.67.20.16,
  • designation according to Vitillo: ARGG2016,
  • alternative designation: XGR 1 1/4"-1".

BSP 1" to BSP 1.1/4" reduction

The different sizes of both connections make the product function as a BSP 1" / 1.1/4" reduction. Both threads are male, so the connector can join two compatible elements equipped with appropriate female threads.

Using a single reducing body allows for a shorter connection and limits the number of additional adapters. Other diameter configurations can be found in the category straight and reducing BSP connectors.

How to identify a BSP 1" thread?

A male BSP 1" thread has a diameter of approximately 33.0-33.2 mm. The 1" designation is a nominal value and does not directly correspond to the 25.4 mm diameter resulting from a simple inch conversion.

Measuring with a caliper around 33 mm is an important clue during identification. However, for a certain selection, the thread pitch and the design of the sealing surface should also be checked.

How to identify BSP 1.1/4"?

The larger side of the connector has a male BSP 1.1/4" thread with a diameter of approximately 41.5-41.9 mm. In this case too, the inch designation is nominal.

A direct conversion of 1.1/4 inches gives 31.75 mm, which is significantly less than the actual thread diameter. Therefore, when identifying, it is worth using a caliper measurement and a thread gauge.

60° sealing cone

The connector has a 60° sealing cone. When selecting mating elements, not only the BSP thread size should be checked, but also the compatibility of the surfaces responsible for sealing.

Mere mechanical screwing of two elements does not yet mean a correct hydraulic connection. The threads and the geometry of the sealing surfaces should be compatible.

Working pressure 160 bar

The maximum working pressure for this reduction is 160 bar. This value should be compared with the actual operating and maximum pressure occurring in the system.

The thread size does not automatically determine the allowable pressure. Individual variants of BSP connectors may have different ratings, so the parameters of the specific product should always be checked.

The allowable pressure of the complete system is limited by its weakest element. When assembling the system, you should therefore also verify crimped hydraulic hoses, fittings, valves, quick couplers, and other armatures.

Diameter reduction and oil flow

The transition from BSP 1.1/4" to BSP 1" results in a reduction of the connection cross-section. When selecting a reduction, it is therefore worth considering not only thread compatibility but also the required medium flow and hose diameter.

A cross-section that is too small relative to the required flow can increase oil velocity and cause additional pressure losses. Therefore, the change in diameter should be evaluated in the context of the entire hydraulic system.

Free-cutting steel and zinc plating with white passivation

The connector body is made of free-cutting steel. The surface has been protected by zinc plating with white passivation, used in steel fasteners intended for standard power hydraulic systems.

If working conditions require the use of a different material, it is also worth checking stainless steel straight connectors.

Working temperature from -20°C to +120°C

The allowable working temperature range of the connector is from -20°C to +120°C. Hydraulic oil is indicated as the medium in the product description.

When determining the parameters of the entire installation, the limitations of hoses, seals, valves, and other components should also be taken into account.

BS5200 / ISO 8434-6 Standard

The connector belongs to the group of BSP connections made according to BS5200 / ISO 8434-6. The manufacturing standard is important during part identification and selection of compatible elements.

When replacing an existing connector, it is worth checking both thread sizes, their actual diameter, pitch, and the design of the sealing surfaces.

Application of BSP 1" / 1.1/4" reduction

The connector can be used wherever a direct transition between a BSP 1" and BSP 1.1/4" connection is required. It works well for both building new installations and during repairs and modernizations of existing hydraulic systems.

  • power hydraulic systems,
  • hydraulic power units,
  • agricultural and orchard machinery,
  • forestry machinery,
  • construction machinery,
  • industrial equipment,
  • oil installations,
  • repairs and modernizations of hydraulic systems.

Equivalent designations of the connector

When searching for an equivalent, the catalog designations provided for this variant may be helpful:

  • Rastelli-Raccordi: 34.67.20.16,
  • Vitillo: ARGG2016,
  • alternative designation: XGR 1 1/4"-1".

Before using a replacement, the full technical specification should be compared, not just the catalog symbol.

How to properly select a BSP 1" / 1.1/4" connector?

Before ordering, the basic connection parameters should be confirmed:

  • side 1: male BSP 1" thread,
  • side 2: male BSP 1.1/4" thread,
  • BSP 1" outer diameter: approximately 33.0-33.2 mm,
  • BSP 1.1/4" outer diameter: approximately 41.5-41.9 mm,
  • sealing cone: 60°,
  • maximum working pressure: 160 bar,
  • working temperature: from -20°C to +120°C,
  • material: free-cutting steel,
  • protection: zinc plating with white passivation.

If you are selecting a new connector based on a part removed from a machine, measure both threads with a caliper and check their pitch. This will reduce the risk of confusing BSP with another inch thread standard.

Selection of a complete hydraulic hose

The thread size alone is not enough to properly make a hose. The inner diameter of the hose, its construction, required working pressure, length, and proper terminations must also be selected.

To prepare the appropriate configuration, you can use the HYDRON hydraulic hose configurator.
