Description

BB BSP 3/4" straight fitting 250 bar

BB BSP 3/4" straight fitting is a steel hydraulic connector equipped with two identical BSP 3/4" male threads. It is used for directly connecting two compatible components of a hydraulic system. Because both connections have the same size, the fitting does not reduce the diameter.

The component features a 60° sealing cone and is designed to work in power hydraulics systems. The body is made of free-cutting steel, and the surface is protected by zinc plating with white passivation. The maximum working pressure specified for this model is 250 bar, and the working temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C.

BSP 3/4" hydraulic nipple with two male threads

The designation BB is used for fittings with two male threads. In this model, there is a BSP 3/4" on both sides, therefore the component can connect two elements equipped with compatible BSP female connections.

This type of nipple is used both during the construction of new systems, as well as for repairs and modernizations of existing installations. One compact body allows for a simple connection without using additional reducers.

If you need a different size or a reducing fitting, check out the BSP imperial straight fittings available in many connection configurations.

How to identify a BSP 3/4" thread?

The BSP 3/4" designation is a nominal value and does not directly correspond to the actual outer diameter of the thread. In the presented fitting, the dimension of the male thread is approximately 26.1-26.4 mm.

If during measurement with a caliper you get a value around 26.3 mm, this is an important clue that suggests a BSP 3/4" thread. For a reliable identification, however, it is also worth checking the thread pitch and the design of the sealing surface.

Why does BSP 3/4" not have a diameter of 19.05 mm?

One of the most common mistakes when identifying hydraulic fittings yourself is directly converting the imperial designation to millimeters. 3/4 inch corresponds to 19.05 mm, but this is not the actual outer diameter of the BSP 3/4" thread.

BSP pipe threads use nominal designations. Therefore, in the case of this fitting, the actual outer diameter is approximately 26.1-26.4 mm. It is worth remembering this especially when selecting a replacement based on a part removed from a machine.

60° sealing cone

The fitting has a 60° sealing cone. When selecting a mating element, it is therefore not enough to only check the BSP 3/4" designation. The design of the surface responsible for the tightness of the connection is also essential.

In hydraulic systems operating under pressure, proper matching of the sealing surfaces is of crucial importance. The mere fact that two components can be mechanically screwed together does not mean they form a proper hydraulic connection.

Working pressure up to 250 bar

The maximum working pressure specified for the fitting is 250 bar. This value should always be compared with the actual parameters of the system in which the component is to be used.

You should not automatically transfer parameters from other sizes of BSP fittings. For example, smaller variants of this group may have higher allowable pressure values. Each size must be selected based on its own technical specification.

The allowable pressure of the complete system is limited by its weakest component. Therefore, you must also check the parameters of crimped hydraulic hoses, fittings, quick couplings, valves, manifolds, and other armatures.

BSP 3/4" and hose diameter selection

The size of the hydraulic connection should be matched not only to the existing thread, but also to the flow parameters of the system. BSP 3/4" is a larger connection than the popular BSP 1/4", 3/8", or 1/2", however, the thread size itself does not automatically determine the correct hose diameter.

When designing or modernizing a system, the required flow, the inner diameter of the hose, the oil flow velocity, and the allowable pressure drops must be considered.

Free-cutting steel protected with zinc plating

The body of the fitting is made of free-cutting steel. The surface is protected with zinc plating with white passivation. This is a commonly used solution in steel fasteners intended for typical power hydraulics systems.

The type of material should be matched to the working conditions of the machine. In systems operating in environments requiring increased corrosion resistance, a stainless steel version can be considered.

In such a case, check out our stainless steel straight fittings, among which the BSP 3/4" version is also available.

BSP 3/4" fitting as an adapter

Fittings of this group can be used not only to connect components, but in a properly designed system also as adapters. The large surface under the hexagon allows the use of an appropriate face seal, if the port design provides for such a mounting method.

For the BSP 3/4" thread, HYDRON's offer includes the G3/4" metal-rubber washer 27.05 × 34.93 × 2.50 mm. The washer should only be used when the port surface and the mounting method are designed for such a seal.

Working temperature from -20°C to +120°C

The working temperature range specified for the fitting is from -20°C to +120°C. Hydraulic oil is indicated as the medium in the product description.

When determining the allowable temperature of the entire system, the parameters of the hoses, seals, valves, and other components must also be considered. The maximum temperature of the complete system may be lower if one of the components used has a lower temperature resistance.

Standard BS5200 / ISO 8434-6

The fitting belongs to the group of BSP connections manufactured according to BS5200 / ISO 8434-6. The standard information is important when selecting a mating element and searching for an equivalent.

When replacing an old fitting, you must compare not only the thread diameter, but also its pitch and the design of the sealing surface.

BSP 3/4" vs. BSPT 3/4"

Similar designations do not always mean the same type of connection. BSP and BSPT belong to the pipe thread family, but they differ in geometry. The presented product has BSP 3/4" threads.

If there is a BSPT tapered thread in the machine, a component appropriate to this standard or a proper adapter must be used. You should not select a fitting solely based on the nominal 3/4" designation.

BSP 3/4" vs. NPT 3/4"

The BSP 3/4" thread should also not be equated with NPT 3/4". They are different thread systems, which is why a similar nominal designation does not mean full compatibility.

If the designation of the old component is illegible, it is worth measuring the diameter, checking the thread pitch, and comparing the design with the machine's documentation or a thread gauge.

Application of the BSP 3/4" fitting

The fitting can be used wherever a simple connection of two compatible components equipped with BSP 3/4" connections is required. It is a popular standard found in many mobile and industrial hydraulic systems.

  • power hydraulics systems,
  • agricultural machinery,
  • orchard machinery,
  • forestry machinery,
  • construction machinery,
  • industrial equipment,
  • hydraulic power units,
  • oil installations,
  • repairs of hydraulic systems,
  • modernization of machines and equipment.

BSP 3/4" fitting or a reducer?

This model has BSP 3/4" on both sides, therefore it is a classic straight fitting and does not change the size of the connection.

If one of the system components has a different size, a suitable reducing fitting must be used. The offer includes, among others, BSP 1/2" / 3/4", BSP 5/8" / 3/4", BSP 3/4" / 1" adapters, and other diameter combinations.

Replacement designations for the BSP 3/4" fitting

Catalog designations used by various manufacturers can be helpful when searching for a replacement. For the presented variant, the HYDRON card provides:

  • Rastelli-Raccordi: 34.69.12.12,
  • Vitillo: ANGG1212,
  • type designation: 1B-12,
  • alternative designation: XG 3/4".

Symbols facilitate the identification of an equivalent, but before using a replacement, always compare the full technical parameters of both products.

How to properly select a BSP 3/4" fitting?

Before ordering, both components of the system must be checked. For the presented model, the most important selection parameters are:

  • first side: BSP 3/4" male,
  • second side: BSP 3/4" male,
  • outer thread diameter: approx. 26.1-26.4 mm,
  • sealing system: 60° cone,
  • working pressure: maximum 250 bar,
  • working temperature: from -20°C to +120°C,
  • material: free-cutting steel,
  • surface protection: zinc plating with white passivation.

If you are selecting a new fitting based on a component removed from an older machine, make an accurate measurement with a caliper and check the thread pitch. This reduces the risk of confusing BSP with BSPT, NPT, or another standard.

Selection of a hydraulic hose for BSP 3/4"

The 3/4" thread itself is not enough to properly make a complete hose assembly. You must also select the inner diameter of the hose, its construction, the required working pressure, temperature, length, and the correct type of fittings.

To prepare a complete hose assembly, you can use the HYDRON hydraulic hose configurator. It enables the selection of the DN diameter, the required pressure, the hose model, the length, and both hose ends.

What to pay attention to during assembly?

Before tightening the connection, the condition of the threads and sealing surfaces should be checked. They should be clean, without mechanical damage and impurities that could affect the tightness.

If the fitting tightens with unusually high resistance even during the first turns, do not tighten it by force. This may indicate an incorrect diameter, a different pitch, or an incompatible thread standard.
