Description

Straight reducing coupling MM BSP 1/2" / 1" 200 bar

Straight reducing coupling MM BSP 1/2" / 1" is a steel hydraulic connector equipped with two external BSP threads of different sizes. On one side, there is BSP 1/2", and on the other, a larger BSP 1". The coupling allows for a direct transition between these connections without using several consecutive adapters.

The body is made of free-cutting steel protected by zinc plating with white passivation. The connection utilizes a 60° sealing cone. The maximum working pressure is 200 bar, and the temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C.

Technical parameters of the BSP 1/2" / 1" coupling

  • alternative designation: 1B-08-16 / XGR 1/2"-1".

Hydraulic reduction BSP 1/2" to BSP 1"

The product serves as a reduction between two significantly different thread sizes. The BSP 1/2" side has an outer diameter of approximately 20.5-20.9 mm, while the BSP 1" side is approximately 33.0-33.2 mm.

Both ends are external threads. The coupling can therefore connect two compatible elements equipped with appropriate internal threads, reducing the number of additional adapters in the system.

Other variants can be found in the category straight and reducing BSP couplings.

How to distinguish BSP 1/2" from BSP 1"?

When identifying a coupling, it is best to start by measuring the external diameter of the thread with a caliper:

  • BSP 1/2": approximately 20.5-20.9 mm,
  • BSP 1": approximately 33.0-33.2 mm.

The difference is large, so both sizes can be recognized relatively easily. However, it must be remembered that BSP inch designations are nominal values. Therefore, a BSP 1" thread does not have a 25.4 mm diameter, and a BSP 1/2" does not have 12.7 mm.

Why is it also worth checking the thread pitch?

Diameter measurement allows for quickly narrowing down the selection, but it should not be the only identification method. When selecting a new coupling for an unmarked component, it is also worth checking the thread pitch and the design of the sealing surface.

This is especially important when repairing older machines where various inch thread standards may occur. A similar appearance of components does not automatically mean they are compatible.

60° sealing cone

The coupling has a 60° sealing cone. When selecting a mating component, you must therefore check not only the BSP label and thread diameter, but also the geometry of the surfaces responsible for sealing.

The mechanical possibility of screwing two parts together does not yet mean a proper hydraulic connection. The thread and the sealing surface should belong to a compatible connection system.

Working pressure 200 bar

The maximum working pressure specified for the BSP 1/2" / 1" reduction is 200 bar. This is a parameter for a specific variant and values found in smaller BSP couplings should not be applied to it.

The allowable pressure of the complete system is determined by the component with the lowest rating. When designing or repairing a system, it is therefore also necessary to verify the hoses, fittings, quick couplers, valves, and other adapters.

Ready-made solutions are available in the category crimped hydraulic hoses.

Reduction from BSP 1" to 1/2" and flow

The transition from a large BSP 1" connection to a BSP 1/2" means a significant reduction in the connection's cross-section. Therefore, when selecting a reduction, the required oil flow must also be considered.

If the cross-section is too small relative to the flow rate, the medium velocity and pressure losses may increase. Therefore, thread compatibility alone should not be the only selection criterion.

Free-cutting steel protected by zinc plating

The coupling body is made of free-cutting steel. The surface has been protected by zinc plating with white passivation, used in steel fasteners intended for standard power hydraulic systems.

If the installation requires components made of stainless steel, a stainless steel variant of BSP 1/2" / 1" made of 1.4571 steel is also available.

Working temperature from -20°C to +120°C

The product data sheet specifies the working temperature range from -20°C to +120°C. Hydraulic oil is indicated as the working medium.

When determining the allowable temperature of the complete system, the parameters of hoses, seals, valves, and other components must also be considered.

Standard BS5200 / ISO 8434-6

The coupling is assigned to the standard BS5200 / ISO 8434-6. This information helps with the identification of the connection system and the selection of compatible parts.

When replacing an existing component, it is worth comparing both threads, their diameter, pitch, sealing method, pressure, and material.

Where is the BSP 1/2" / 1" coupling used?

The reduction can be used wherever it is necessary to connect two components of a hydraulic system with different BSP connection sizes.

  • power hydraulics,
  • agricultural and orchard machinery,
  • forestry machinery,
  • construction machinery,
  • hydraulic power units,
  • industrial equipment,
  • oil installations,
  • repairs and modernizations of hydraulic systems.

Catalog designations and replacements

When searching for an equivalent, the designations assigned to this variant may be helpful:

  • Rastelli-Raccordi: 34.67.16.08,
  • Vitillo: ARGG1608,
  • symbol: 1B-08-16,
  • alternative designation: XGR 1/2"-1".

The catalog designation facilitates identification, but before using a replacement, you should compare full technical parameters, especially threads, sealing method, material, and allowable pressure.

How to correctly select the BSP 1/2" / 1" reduction?

Before ordering, it is worth confirming:

  • if two external threads are required,
  • if the smaller thread is BSP 1/2",
  • if the larger thread is BSP 1",
  • the external diameter of both threads,
  • the thread pitch,
  • compatibility of the 60° sealing cone,
  • the maximum required working pressure,
  • the flow required in a given circuit.

If the coupling is selected based on a part removed from a machine, it is worth measuring with a caliper and a thread gauge instead of relying solely on visual comparison.

Selection of a complete hydraulic hose

Thread size is only one of the parameters of a hydraulic hose. You also need to select the DN diameter, hose construction, required pressure, length, and both ends.

You can prepare the appropriate configuration in the HYDRON hydraulic hose configurator.

Frequently Asked Questions

What threads does the BSP 1/2" / 1" coupling have?

The coupling has two external threads: BSP 1/2" on one side and BSP 1" on the other.

What is the maximum working pressure?

The maximum working pressure specified for this variant is 200 bar.

How to recognize BSP 1/2" and BSP 1" threads?

The external BSP 1/2" thread is approximately 20.5-20.9 mm in diameter, while the BSP 1" is approximately 33.0-33.2 mm. For certain identification, the thread pitch should also be checked.

Does the coupling have a sealing cone?

Yes. The coupling has a 60° sealing cone, so the mating component should have compatible connection geometry.

What to look for when reducing from 1" to 1/2"?

In addition to thread and pressure compatibility, the required flow should be checked, as transitioning from BSP 1" to BSP 1/2" reduces the connection cross-section.
