Description

Straight reduction connector MM BSP 1/8" / 3/8" 350 bar

Straight connector MM BSP 1/8" / 3/8" is a steel hydraulic connector with two BSP external threads of different sizes. On one side there is BSP 1/8", and on the other, a larger BSP 3/8". The element allows for a direct transition between these connections without using several additional adapters.

The connector has a 60° sealing cone. The body is made of free-cutting steel protected by zinc plating with white passivation. The maximum working pressure is 350 bar, and the operating temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C.

Technical parameters of the BSP 1/8" / 3/8" connector

  • product type: straight hydraulic connector MM,
  • type: reduction connector,
  • thread 1: external BSP 1/8",
  • thread 2: external BSP 3/8",
  • BSP 1/8" thread dimension: 9.3-9.7 mm external / 8.2-8.6 mm internal,
  • BSP 3/8" thread dimension: 16.3-16.6 mm external / 14.9-15.4 mm internal,
  • sealing cone angle: 60°,
  • working pressure: 350 bar,
  • operating temperature: from -20°C to +120°C,
  • material: free-cutting steel,
  • surface protection: zinc plated with white passivation,
  • manufacturing standard: BS5200 / ISO 8434-6,
  • medium: hydraulic oil,
  • intended use: connecting components of a hydraulic system,
  • marking according to Vitillo: ARGG0602,
  • alternative marking: 1B-02-06.

BSP 1/8" to BSP 3/8" reduction

The connector allows for direct connection of two components with different connection sizes. The BSP 1/8" side has a significantly smaller thread than the BSP 3/8", which is why the product functions as a hydraulic reduction.

Both threads are external. The one-piece design limits the number of additional adapters and allows for a compact connection between two standard BSP connections.

Other variants can be found in the category BSP straight and reduction connectors.

How to identify a BSP 1/8" thread?

The BSP 1/8" external thread has a diameter of approximately 9.3-9.7 mm. The 1/8" designation is a nominal value, so one should not expect a diameter of 3.18 mm resulting from a simple inch conversion.

A caliper measurement around 9.5 mm is a good indicator for identifying BSP 1/8". However, for certain selection, you should also check the thread pitch and the design of the sealing surface.

How to identify a BSP 3/8" thread?

The other side of the connector has a BSP 3/8" external thread with a diameter of approximately 16.3-16.6 mm. Here too, the inch designation is nominal.

If the thread measurement yields a result around 16.5 mm, it may indicate BSP 3/8". It is worth supplementing the diameter measurement with a thread pitch check.

60° sealing cone

The connector has a 60° sealing cone. When selecting mating components, one should check not only the diameter and thread type but also the compatibility of the sealing surfaces.

The ability to mechanically screw two parts together does not automatically mean a correct hydraulic connection. The thread and the sealing method should be compatible with each other.

Working pressure 350 bar

The maximum working pressure of the presented connector is 350 bar. This is a parameter for the specific BSP 1/8" / 3/8" variant and should not be automatically applied to other connector sizes.

The allowable pressure of the entire system is limited by the component with the lowest parameters. Therefore, hoses, fittings, valves, quick couplings, and other fittings should also be checked.

Ready-made solutions are available in the category crimped hydraulic hoses.

3/8" to 1/8" reduction and flow

The transition from BSP 3/8" to BSP 1/8" means a significant reduction in the connection's cross-section. Therefore, thread compatibility should not be the only selection criterion.

It is worth considering the required oil flow, hose diameter, and the characteristics of the entire system. Too small a cross-section can cause an increase in flow velocity and additional pressure losses.

Free-cutting steel protected by zinc plating

The connector body is made of free-cutting steel. The surface is protected by zinc plating with white passivation, used in steel fasteners for standard power hydraulic systems.

When selecting the material, environmental conditions, the medium, and the machine's operating environment should be considered.

Operating temperature from -20°C to +120°C

The allowable operating temperature range is from -20°C to +120°C. Hydraulic oil is specified as the working medium in the product description.

The parameters of the entire installation should be determined considering also the hoses, seals, valves, and other system components.

Standard BS5200 / ISO 8434-6

The connector belongs to the group of BSP connections made according to BS5200 / ISO 8434-6. Information about the standard helps in the correct identification and selection of mating components.

When replacing an existing connector, compare both thread sizes, their actual diameter, pitch, and the design of the sealing surfaces.

Application of the BSP 1/8" / 3/8" connector

The reduction can be used wherever a transition between a small BSP 1/8" and BSP 3/8" connection is necessary. It is used both in the construction of new installations and in the repair and modernization of existing systems.

  • power hydraulic systems,
  • agricultural and horticultural machinery,
  • forestry machinery,
  • construction machinery,
  • industrial equipment,
  • oil installations,
  • repairs and modernizations of hydraulic systems.

Replacement markings

Catalog markings provided for this variant may be helpful in identifying an equivalent:

  • Vitillo: ARGG0602,
  • alternative marking: 1B-02-06.

Before using a replacement, compare the full technical specification, not just the catalog symbol.

How to correctly select a BSP 1/8" / 3/8" connector?

Before ordering, confirm the most important connection parameters:

  • side 1: external BSP 1/8",
  • side 2: external BSP 3/8",
  • BSP 1/8" external diameter: approx. 9.3-9.7 mm,
  • BSP 3/8" external diameter: approx. 16.3-16.6 mm,
  • sealing cone: 60°,
  • maximum working pressure: 350 bar,
  • operating temperature: from -20°C to +120°C.

If you are selecting a connector based on a component removed from a machine, measure both threads with a caliper and check their pitch. This will help reduce the risk of confusing BSP with another connection standard.

Selection of a complete hydraulic hose

Thread size alone is not enough to correctly make a hose. You should also select the internal diameter of the hose, the hose construction, the required working pressure, length, and appropriate ends.

To prepare a complete configuration, you can use the HYDRON hydraulic hose configurator.

Frequently Asked Questions

What threads does the connector have?

On one side there is a BSP 1/8" external thread, and on the other, a BSP 3/8" external thread.

Is this a reduction connector?

Yes. The connector allows for a direct transition between BSP 1/8" and BSP 3/8".

What is the maximum working pressure?

The maximum working pressure specified for this product is 350 bar.

How to identify BSP 1/8" and BSP 3/8" threads?

The BSP 1/8" external thread has a diameter of approximately 9.3-9.7 mm, while BSP 3/8" is approximately 16.3-16.6 mm. For certain identification, it is also worth checking the thread pitch.

What should be considered when selecting this reduction?

You should check both thread sizes, the 60° sealing cone, the required working pressure, and the flow required in the installation.
